Chapter 111: A Human Psychic?
Upon the one-eyed man’s command, the Dusa Resistance did not give Ye Hai and his party a single moment to react. They opened fire immediately. In an instant, the snowy landscape was illuminated by intense flashes, accompanied by the thunderous roar of gunfire.
Five hundred against two hundred. In the blink of an eye, the Grave Diggers brought by Ye Hai had fallen in a pool of blood without forming any semblance of a defense. Perhaps because the one-eyed man recognized Cours and knew of his status as a missionary, Ye Hai, who stood beside him, was spared from the hail of bullets. For once, Ye Hai had truly benefited from his association with Cours.
Looking at the field of "corpses," Ye Hai’s expression turned grim. The one-eyed man, meanwhile, wore a smug, triumphant smirk.
"Missionary Cours! I am Laprashin, combat captain of the Third Battalion of the Dusa Resistance. I believe you should recognize me. After all, my wanted posters are plastered all over the Ironwood Forest black market."
Cours looked at the one-eyed man with a calm expression, choosing not to acknowledge him. Laprashin grinned and said, "I like that stubborn look on your face. Once I bring you back to camp, I hope you can withstand the tortures specifically prepared for lackeys of the Shesha Sect like you. As for me, I will be delighted to stand by and listen to your wails! That is the most beautiful melody in this world."
Having said this, Laprashin turned to look at Ye Hai and said coldly, "You are the leader of the new survivors? Don't bother giving me that murderous look! Since you are willing to serve as lackeys for the Shesha Sect, then you all deserve to die. Soon, everyone in your camp will meet a miserable end, just like you!"
Ye Hai stared coldly at Laprashin and asked, "Do you have a vendetta against the Shesha Sect?"
Laprashin’s eyes blazed with savage intensity as he glared at Ye Hai. "Outsider... you have no idea what kind of evil the Shesha Sect is! Everyone in the Shesha Sect deserves to die!"
Ye Hai let out a cold snort. "We just arrived here; we have no intention of joining the Shesha Sect. You launched a lethal attack without asking a single question? Isn't that a bit too brutal and heartless? And you intend to wipe out my camp? I have many elderly, children, and women in my camp. What did they do wrong? How could you bring yourself to slaughter the innocent?"
Hearing this, the one-eyed man erupted into laughter. "What kind of bullshit mercy is that? This is Zombie Planet! This is the Ironwood Forest! Outsider, it seems you still don't understand the cruelty of this place. Old men, children, women! As long as they might become followers of the Shesha Sect, they must be eradicated. Years ago, a group as naive as yours came here. I still remember every single person I killed with my own hands. Among them... there was no shortage of the elderly and children you speak of."
Ye Hai narrowed his eyes slightly. A terrifying, savage glint flickered within them, and his body emanated such a chilling aura of slaughter that Cours couldn't help but shiver. "No wonder Cours calls you lunatics. Originally, I had no particular feelings toward the Shesha Sect, but you... you make me sick."
Perhaps sensing Ye Hai’s burgeoning rage, Laprashin laughed loudly. "Don't be so angry, outsider! I repeat: you know nothing about the Ironwood Forest."
Ye Hai replied in a frigid tone, "Scum like you aren't even worth my anger!" He then turned toward Javier, whose head had been blown apart, and said coldly, "I entrusted the main military force of the camp to you. After all this time, is this the pile of trash you've trained for me? Perhaps I overestimated you, Legion Commander Javier. I gave you five hundred soldiers so you could train a fierce, iron-blooded force for me, not this garbage that was wiped out so easily today. If this is all you are capable of, I will strip every single virus from your body! Go back to wherever you crawled out from, and never appear before me again."
Laprashin stared blankly at Ye Hai, who was venting his fury at a corpse, as if looking at a fool. He sneered, "Are you scared out of your mind? Venting your anger on a dead man? That’s hilarious... Hahaha... Ha... Huh?"
Laprashin’s noisy laughter came to an abrupt halt, as if he had been grabbed by the throat. Before his very eyes, sprouts began to emerge from Javier’s decapitated head. Within mere seconds, it regenerated completely. Javier sat up on the ground, a faint smile on his face, and said, "Lord Ye Hai, perhaps you didn't notice, but after a morning of marching, our force of two hundred is down to fewer than one hundred and fifty. You didn't even realize that Zero and Lister had slipped away from the ranks! I suppose the blinding white snow gave you a mild case of snow blindness. However, I cannot fully agree with what you said earlier. Although I would love for you to clear the viruses from my body so I can return to Giant Tree Star and reunite with my lovely wives, your questioning of my professional standards has greatly displeased me."
Ye Hai was momentarily stunned. He scanned his surroundings and realized that, indeed, he could not find the bodies of Zero or Lister. His brow furrowed, and he asked, "Where are Lister, Zero, and the fifty members of the Veronica combat team?"
Javier stood up, smiled slightly at Laprashin, and said, "Along the way, I noticed the same markings left in several places. Clearly, these things were man-made. From that moment, I suspected we were being tailed. Sure enough, with the help of Lister’s nanites, we easily discovered the spies hiding in the snow. So, I sent some men to follow them and investigate. We discovered there was another group behind you. As a pirate, I don't have the habit of leaving hidden threats behind. So, in 0.01 seconds, I decided to round you all up."
As Javier finished speaking, the soldiers on the ground who had been shot to death instantly revived. They wore eerie smiles on their faces and moved like ghosts, cutting down all five hundred members of the Dusa Resistance in the blink of an eye with clean, precise movements. This time, the opponents, much like the Grave Diggers who had been "killed" earlier, offered no resistance at all.
Ye Hai paused, a sudden realization dawning on him. "These guys suppressed their own resurrection time? According to the capability of the parasites, you should have fully revived within seconds of dying. You did this... to stall for time?"
Javier wore a mocking expression and said with disdain, "Apologize!"
Ye Hai almost rolled his eyes into the back of his head, but under Javier’s aggressive gaze, he helplessly conceded. Just as he was about to speak, the snow wall to their right began to collapse in large chunks. A moment later, Lister emerged from the snow, panting heavily. Behind him was that same large iron chain used to bind mutants! Except this time, it wasn't binding a mutant... but a group of humans. Leading them was a blind woman, thin and dressed in sparse clothing.
Upon seeing this woman, Laprashin seemed to go mad. He charged frantically at Lister, shouting, "Let go of the Saintess, you piece of scum! I'll kill you!"
However, Lister was not someone Laprashin could easily harm. Lister swayed his body agilely, allowing beams of high-energy lasers to pass by him without so much as grazing his clothing. Meanwhile, Zero appeared silently behind Laprashin with a sinister smile. With a gentle wave of his hands, Laprashin’s arms were instantly severed and fell onto the snow.
At this moment, the blind woman, restrained by Lister, scanned the surrounding dead with her pupil-less eyes. Suddenly, she closed them and began to chant a strange melody in a high-pitched voice. The next second, a sight that left all the Grave Diggers dumbfounded occurred: the slain Dusa Resistance soldiers began to revive and stand up one by one. Even Laprashin’s severed arms reattached themselves to the stumps, restored as if nothing had happened.
Just as the Dusa Resistance was preparing to launch another attack, the Saintess spoke: "End this senseless war! These people before us do not belong to the Shesha Sect!"
The Saintess’s voice was not loud, yet it sounded like a thunderclap in everyone’s ears. Ye Hai blurted out, "A psionic? A human?"
Cours exclaimed simultaneously, "The legendary Perfect Blessed One? How is this possible? This can only be someone who has passed through the Sanctuary of Miracles—a Perfect Blessed One! This is a figure of Pope-level status! Why would such a being be wandering out here, acting as the Saintess of the Dusa Resistance?"
