Chapter 115: Joe, the Biochemical Cyber Sword Immortal
At Ye Hai’s words, Qiao flashed a wide grin.
“Good!”
“Today, I’ll show you the might of Qiao Har, the Biochemical Cyber Sword Immortal!”
“Just try not to blind yourself with all the brilliance!”
“Follow me!”
With that, Qiao slapped the belt around his waist. In an instant, twelve throwing knives of varying lengths sprang from the leather sheaths encircling his waist.
Qiao merely pointed.
With a sharp whoosh, the twelve throwing knives shot toward the enemy.
Ye Hai followed behind him and could not help rolling his eyes.
These twelve nanoblades, forged by Lister, were all controlled by the chip in Qiao’s brain. They could be operated entirely through brain waves.
In other words...
Every single one of Qiao’s gestures was purely for show. They served absolutely no practical purpose.
Still, Ye Hai had to admit that Qiao’s movements were not only extremely practiced, but also flowed together with astonishing smoothness. Clearly, he had spent no small amount of time perfecting them.
“Master, watch closely...”
“The first slash of the Immortal-Slaying Flying Blades... Detonation!”
With a shout brimming with adolescent theatrics, one of the dark-red flying blades suddenly shot into the sky. It circled once above the enemy before selecting the densest cluster of soldiers and plunging straight down.
The moment it touched the ground, the blade exploded with a thunderous roar.
Within a radius of twenty meters, severed limbs lay everywhere. Not a single person survived the blow.
After the explosion, countless scarlet nanomachines crawled out of the soil inside the enormous crater. In the blink of an eye, they reassembled into the shape of a flying blade and darted toward the nearest enemy.
Ye Hai could not help exclaiming, “That fellow Lister really is a genius!”
“He’s turned nanomachines into an art form.”
As Ye Hai marveled, Qiao turned his head with displeasure.
“Hey, hey, hey...”
“Master! That’s not fair!”
“That spectacularly handsome technique was the work of Lord Qiao, and it’s incredibly powerful!”
“What does it have to do with that deadpan Lister?”
“Are you planning to step into the pit he dug? Why are you actually saying something nice about him?”
Hearing Qiao’s complaint, Ye Hai answered irritably, “I came up with the concept...”
“Lister built the weapons.”
“Once these weapons were designed, their functions were already more or less fixed!”
“Other than giving them names so corny they could make dirt blush, what exactly did you do?”
Qiao nearly choked on his own breath from the retort.
But Ye Hai had spoken nothing but the truth.
Qiao found himself utterly unable to refute him.
So he vented all his pent-up frustration directly on the enemy.
“Immortal-Slaying Flying Blades, second slash... Thunder Web!”
At Qiao’s command, another flying blade suddenly came apart in midair.
At first glance, the fragments seemed to be scattering in all directions. But on closer inspection, each piece was trailing fine strands of filament.
The night made them difficult to see, but illuminated by the muzzle flashes of the high-energy firearms, Ye Hai could clearly make out the blade, now divided into twenty-four sections, with an extremely delicate thread extending from each segment.
And there were quite a few of them.
Looking more carefully at the fragments of the shattered blade, Ye Hai saw that they had already transformed into the shape of spiders in midair.
He frowned slightly and asked in confusion, “Mechanical spiders?”
“They can spit webbing too?”
“These little things are half machine and half organism, aren’t they?”
At Ye Hai’s question, Qiao turned around and gave him a smug smile.
“The web produced by these mechanical spiders is made of superconducting metal!”
As he spoke, Qiao snapped his fingers flamboyantly in front of Ye Hai.
At once, sparks flew and lightning flashed.
The electric web, a hundred meters across, swept directly toward the enemy.
The soldiers trapped beneath it convulsed violently. Their bodies blackened, and wisps of green smoke rose from them at intervals.
Once the mechanical spiders detached the web from their abdomens, they gathered together again. Then they began darting through the air, harvesting the enemy’s heads.
Qiao’s two attacks killed more than a hundred enemies in an instant.
Compared with the way he had previously used an alloy dagger to stab his way through them one by one, this killing efficiency had increased by who knew how many times.
Watching these weapons, which looked like magical treasures from a world of cultivation, Ye Hai felt a touch of envy.
Unfortunately, the materials required for the flying blades were extremely difficult to obtain. Acquiring them through the Talan Army had cost him dearly.
After witnessing the power of the first two blades, Ye Hai asked, “These two are both focused on physical attacks!”
“I heard Lister say that, of the twelve blades in the set, four are primarily physical weapons.”
“Four possess viral attack modes.”
“And the final four use biological-weapons attack modes.”
“The first two were either explosive or crackling with electricity. Do those count as physical attributes?”
“What about the other two modes?”
“Show them to me...”
Qiao scratched his head, then readily agreed.
“Then let’s take a look at biological-weapons mode!”
“We won’t test viral mode here at our camp.”
“If anything goes wrong, eight or nine people out of ten here will die.”
“Master! Watch closely...”
“Third blade, fourth blade...”
“Devouring Shield and Blood-Dissolving Spear!”
With that, Qiao beckoned.
The two flying blades immediately returned to his hands.
In an instant, both blades began to grow unnaturally, their forms changing dramatically.
The blade in Qiao’s left hand transformed into a shield as tall as his torso.
All over its surface, vicious spikes constantly extended and retracted. They were not especially long—perhaps a dozen centimeters—but when Qiao approached within roughly ten meters of the enemy, the densely packed spikes on the shield’s surface shot forward at lightning speed and pierced into their bodies, greedily draining their blood.
In the blink of an eye, the five enemies directly in front of the shield were sucked dry and reduced to desiccated corpses.
The shield itself took on a sickly, vivid crimson hue.
Ye Hai’s gaze sharpened.
“This shield... combines the blood-draining ability of mutated mosquitoes with the shapeshifting capabilities of biochemical armor!”
Immortal Wood’s Fateful Encounter.
“What an interesting combination!”
“When it comes to merging machinery with genetics, Lister truly is a genius...”
“Though I dislike his traps and his face, I have to admit, his inventions are remarkably likable.”
At that moment, Qiao let out another furious shout.
“Blood-Dissolving Spear!”
The fleshy spear in Qiao’s hand suddenly swelled.
Its tip spread apart like a lotus, splitting into more than a dozen petals.
Then the lotus-shaped spearhead began spinning frantically.
Countless nanomachines shot out.
These nanomachines, fired like bullets, contained a virus that Qiao had created himself.
The virus had only one function: to dissolve flesh into a revolting pool of black sludge, something resembling asphalt mixed with blood.
The moment the nanomachines approached the enemy, they exploded.
The viral solution contained within their bodies splashed over the soldiers from head to toe.
In an instant, the entire battlefield became a horrifying inferno.
Their faces twisted in agony as half-melted bodies writhed on the ground, screaming until they slowly dissolved into pools of viscous black fluid.
Disgusting and grotesque.
Ye Hai could not stop a curse from bursting out of his mouth.
“Damn! I thought that spear was meant for close combat!”
“It’s actually a ranged weapon...”
“What the hell, it’s completely deceptive!”
“But with that rate of fire, it really does have the feel of a Gatling gun...”
“A biochemical Gatling gun?”
“Melting people’s flesh and blood... That’s vicious.”
Under Qiao’s relentless barrage, the path leading to the portal was cleared completely.
Ye Hai gazed at the dark, cavernous portal before him and smiled faintly.
“Let’s go take a look over there!”
“Remember, capture them alive...”
“This kind of psionic ability has immense strategic value.”
“This psionic user will be very useful to us.”
“I can’t believe humanity still hasn’t fully unraveled the secrets of wormholes, yet it has already gained the ability to teleport through space...”
“Perhaps this is the miracle of genetics.”
