Chapter Seventy-Two: Donald the Crow
Soon, the mutants summoned by Leanna came lumbering over. They were two wolves, each about twenty meters long. Their bodies were covered with sharp barbs, making them look like two gigantic, bristling cats.
Meanwhile, Joe was out walking the giant moray eel, tossing chunks of stone at its body as he ran, grumbling incessantly. Whether the eel understood him was anyone’s guess, but it certainly looked furious, chasing Joe and discharging electricity at random. However, since it only carried the genes of an electric eel and hadn’t awakened any psychic abilities, the arcs of electricity merely danced around its body, never coming close to Joe.
Seeing this, Ye Hai shook his head, lamenting that Joe had once again chosen the wrong fighting style. With his speed and agility, Joe was best suited to wielding ranged weapons. Yet he had stubbornly picked a short, thin dagger—previously effective against smaller, lower-stage mutants, but now, faced with the bloated eighth-stage creatures, it was no better than scraping dust.
Ye Hai resolved to get him some high-tech gear in the future—perhaps a set of smart-controlled flying swords, letting Joe experience the true power of a cybernetic swordsman. He could unleash sword formations, rain down blades, and recite lines like “dwelling high above the clouds, eternity as a long night, light chilling fourteen continents”—the aura would be unmatched. If Joe wasn't fond of swords, at least a hundred flying knives would suffice.
He’d ask List to help modify them, creating half-mechanical, half-organic weapons that could inflict paralysis, stun, infection, bleeding, even reproduction—every effect the virus could achieve. A bio-cyber swordsman, born of science and infection.
With such weapons, Joe wouldn’t be fleeing from giant mutants in disgrace, but moving with grace and ease. Considering Joe’s current approach, Ye Hai felt the T-virus in Joe’s body was wasted. The more he thought about it, the more tempted he became!
“This sort of thing, List might actually be able to make. I’ll discuss it with him when he returns…” Ye Hai made a mental note of the idea.
He called out to Leanna, “In a moment, have your two mutants attack head-on and draw that thing’s attention!”
Then he turned to Mr. Lung, “Feeling better? Still numb? We’ll need you to flip this big fish!”
“Mr. Javier, prepare your strongest power output…”
“Let’s begin!”
Upon Ye Hai’s command, Leanna immediately directed her two mutants into a death charge. The moray, already furious from Joe’s antics, suddenly saw its prey provoking it and nearly exploded with rage. It turned on the wolves, lunging at them.
As electric arcs flickered across the eel’s body, Ye Hai activated the primal virus within the creature—a solar-step original virus—causing it to ravage the eel’s tissues. In an instant, the eel writhed on the ground in agony, unable to control its electricity.
The two mutant wolves seized their moment, sliding in unison beneath the eel and launching it upward. The scene was like a car speeding at 200 kilometers per hour, hitting a concrete speed bump—catapulted into the air!
At that moment, Mr. Lung sprang into action. Countless tendrils gripped the scales on the eel’s back, pulling with all their might. But the creature’s weight was tremendous, and Mr. Lung was injured. Although the eel slowed slightly, it still barreled toward the group with enormous force.
Ye Hai transformed into his G2 form, stomping the ground and leaping straight at the eel. With his help, Mr. Lung managed to control the fish and turn its belly toward Javier.
Javier’s eyes narrowed. He shouted, “Ye Hai, clear out!”
“Seven percent power!”
“Fire!”
A beam of white light shot toward the eel’s belly. Upon releasing the attack, Javier’s arm exploded, blood spraying everywhere, but the G-virus quickly regenerated his limb. Still, the pain left his face pale, and he hurriedly pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.
“You idiots, are you trying to destroy my laboratory?” Suddenly, a deep, aged voice rang out.
The spot hit by the antimatter cannon collapsed inward, instantly forming a gaping hole through the eel’s body. Javier’s attack had missed entirely.
A white-coated old man stood with regal bearing in the empty space within the eel. The creature lay motionless, apparently unconscious.
“You old geezer, you finally show yourself!” Joe shouted, his voice hoarse. “We came to visit you, and this is how you treat us? Setting your fish on us—it even shocks people! That’s outrageous!”
The old man glared fiercely at Joe. “Say another word and I’ll thrash you, you brat! No manners—show some respect for your teacher!”
Ye Hai approached, grinning. “Boss, Joe and I brought back two corpse hunters. We thought you might like to meet them, and perhaps let them study here for a while.”
He turned and gestured for Leanna and Javier to step forward. “Here you go, boss—this is Leanna, host of the Veronica virus. This is Javier, host of the G-virus.”
The old man’s eyes lit up. “You’ve cultivated both the Veronica and G viruses? I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me! Unlike certain useless waste…” He glanced at Joe and snorted. “Those three viruses you made are trash. I’ll eventually kick such dead weight out of my school!”
He moved toward Leanna, suddenly reaching for her chest with a speed that defied the eye. Leanna was caught off guard, but Ye Hai, well aware of the old man’s habits, had been alert the moment he saw him approach Leanna. He grabbed the old man’s wrist just in time.
“Boss! At it again?” Ye Hai said helplessly. “When Zero returns, I’ll tell him…”
The old man looked at Leanna’s stunned face and chuckled. “I couldn’t help myself—apologies! Hehehe…”
“Welcome to the Corpse Hunter organization. I am… uh… Crow… But I prefer people call me Dr. Donald…”
