Chapter Ninety-Three: The Biomechanical Mech Makes a Dazzling Debut
Ye Hai waited silently in the darkness of the night.
Before long, shrill screams and wails came from somewhere behind them.
Against these survivors, who had no ability to resist, ART-2 was clearly advancing with astonishing speed.
Ye Hai had already deliberately moved farther into the interior.
And yet, barely five minutes after Vera had entered the camp ahead, the sounds from behind could already be heard.
At that moment, Zero came to Ye Hai's side, glanced toward the camp ahead, and asked, “Why haven’t you sent out the Tyrants and Lickers?”
Ye Hai replied, “I sent Vera in to negotiate with the people inside.”
“Wait a few more minutes. If there is still no response, we’ll just take them by force...”
“ART-2 is getting closer and closer. We can only buy ourselves these few minutes.”
“We can’t save everyone. I can’t drag the organization into a dead end just to rescue these people.”
After waiting another two minutes, Ye Hai was gradually losing patience.
During that time, Zero had already taken care of two or three stray little people-faced spiders that had broken through and reached this place alone.
That meant ART-2’s main force was not far away.
“Zero, release the Tyrants and Lickers!”
Just as Zero was about to act, Ye Hai suddenly spoke again. “Wait a moment...”
Zero, still puzzled, turned to look at Ye Hai. Following his gaze, he saw that in the black jungle ahead, a few torches had begun to appear, their faint light drawing closer and closer.
“It looks like Vera’s men succeeded first.”
Soon, a force of about three hundred people hurried up to Ye Hai.
Although all of them recoiled in fear and resistance when they saw the moray eel’s grotesque and horrifying head, it seemed that the people who had been sent to gather them had already explained what kind of situation awaited them on the way here.
Though they were still uneasy, by the time they reached this point, they could already clearly hear the screams not far away.
At once, the survivors of this camp, led by a middle-aged man at their head, climbed into the moray eel’s belly.
The process went fairly smoothly, without any major disturbance.
And at that very moment, the camp ahead where Vera had gone to persuade the survivors finally showed movement.
Soon, under Vera’s lead, the survivors surged rapidly toward the moray eel’s position.
However, at this moment, Ye Hai and Zero both shifted form.
They rushed sharply to the left and right, charging toward the two sides of the approaching formation.
Their monstrous and terrifying appearances immediately drew cries of alarm from the survivors in the dark night, causing a small amount of chaos.
Suddenly, someone in the group pointed into the darkness to the side and shouted, “Look, something is coming...”
The next second, hundreds of people-faced spiders poured out of the darkness.
Just when the survivors were about to descend into chaos because of the confusion, Ye Hai and Zero plunged into the dense forest and began fighting the people-faced spiders.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Vera did everything she could to keep the group from collapsing.
She led the people in a frantic dash toward the moray eel.
This batch of people-faced spiders was not large in number, only a little over a hundred.
They were quickly slaughtered clean by Ye Hai and Zero.
These small people-faced spiders were not physically formidable, only about fourth- or fifth-stage level.
For Ye Hai and Zero, their low-level psychic power could almost be ignored completely, thanks to their terrifying physical strength.
With psychic power ineffective against them, Ye Hai and Zero faced these people-faced spiders no differently from ordinary fourth- or fifth-stage mutants.
Very soon, they had killed this vanguard force of ART-2 to the last.
After retreating to the moray eel’s side, Zero asked, “How much longer? I can already see the giant people-faced spiders...”
“In at most one or two minutes, these spiders will flood this place like a tide and bury everything completely.”
“We should go...”
“We’ve already saved more than fifteen hundred people. We’ve done all we can...”
“Let’s withdraw!”
Ye Hai, however, shook his head slightly and said, “Vera sent more than ten people out, and only one has come back so far. Wait a little longer...”
“Prepare for battle... try to buy some time.”
“With the moray eel here, retreating shouldn’t be a problem...”
“These people-faced spiders are nowhere near as fast as the moray eel underground.”
After thinking it over briefly, Zero felt that Ye Hai’s reasoning made sense.
Since that was the case, then they would have to unleash another round of blood-soaked slaughter.
After such a long period of recovery, Zero had already returned to peak condition.
Looking at the increasingly numerous shadows among the dense trees, the corners of Zero’s mouth lifted slightly, and that crazed look returned to her face.
“If we’re going to kill, then I’ll strike first...”
With that, she vanished in a blur and charged into the darkness to kill.
Soon, even more people-faced spiders appeared, surrounding Ye Hai’s position completely.
Ye Hai showed no courtesy either. After letting the moray eel sink beneath the ground, he entered G3 form and began slaughtering furiously as well.
Thus, Ye Hai and Zero held the line in the darkness for seven or eight minutes.
But both of them relied mainly on single-target attacks. Although each strike against these people-faced spiders was almost a kill in one blow, their efficiency was not high.
Very soon, the spiders around them became denser and denser.
And Ye Hai finally fought a giant people-faced spider for the first time.
Killing it indeed required considerable effort.
Looking at the layers upon layers of spiders around him, Ye Hai thought to himself, “With such terrifying numbers, those people we sent out are probably not coming back...”
“It’s time to withdraw!”
Yet at that moment, a dense burst of gunfire rang out from afar...
Ye Hai turned to look and saw torches, countless and packed tight, rushing madly in his direction.
Their approach was accompanied by wailing and screams.
Ye Hai’s expression darkened.
He abandoned the enemy he was currently engaged with and charged all the way toward the direction of the flames.
At last, once he drew near, he saw a group of about two thousand people being slaughtered and pursued by ART-2.
Ye Hai immediately plunged into the crowd and killed several people-faced spiders.
But the survivors who had already been closed in upon by the spiders had almost no ability to fight back.
The few broken guns in the survivors’ hands could deal only extremely limited damage to the spiders.
At once, Ye Hai had an idea.
The moray eel burst up from the ground and opened its huge maw.
Several young men sent out by Vera shouted orders at the top of their lungs, urging everyone toward the moray eel’s position.
At the same time, large numbers of biological weapons were released from both sides of the moray eel’s body.
They began madly tearing apart the people-faced spiders around them.
“Quick!”
“Get into the belly, and everyone will be safe!”
The young men sent by Vera were shouting themselves hoarse.
But because the moray eel’s mouth was filled with savage fangs, every survivor entering it had to slow down and pass through carefully.
As a result, large numbers of people piled up around the moray eel.
As tension, agitation, and panic were magnified wildly under the spiders’ assault, the entire group began to compress and crush inward in a frenzy.
Those in the back, desperate to survive, cared for nothing.
They shoved aside the elderly, the weak, women, and children, and forced their way inward.
Before long, some people were knocked down in the eel’s mouth by the pushing and shoving.
They fell onto the moray eel’s fangs and were pierced through...
Even worse, some drew out their firearms and blasted a path open.
At that moment, Ye Hai, who was still holding off the people-faced spiders, showed a flash of ruthlessness in his eyes.
He immediately summoned more than a dozen Tyrants and Lickers.
In an instant, they dragged out the troublemakers sowing chaos in the crowd.
And he ordered the Lickers, in full view of everyone, to tear these parasites apart and devour them alive.
“Form lines. Anyone who dares to crowd recklessly and cause chaos...”
“I’ll make sure he dies faster than anyone!”
As expected, Ye Hai’s methods instantly shocked the crowd.
Under the Tyrants’ brutal intervention, the masses were quickly organized into five long lines and entered one by one.
After that commotion, everyone’s entry speed actually increased quite a bit.
At that moment, on the other side, a thousand meters away, another round of shouting rose up.
Ye Hai’s heart sank slightly, and he turned to look.
Another group had actually arrived at this time.
But looking at the fact that more than half of this side’s people were still outside, as well as the biological weapons that were gradually being suppressed by ART-2...
Ye Hai had no spare hands to rescue the people over there.
With no choice, he could only abandon the other group.
Just then, a sea serpent shot skyward from amid the people-faced spiders besieging the other group.
It then crashed to the ground and began writhing wildly, sweeping away the surrounding ART-2 with ferocious force.
At the same time, dense vines surged up from the earth.
They began to coil around the survivors and fling them into the sea serpent’s mouth.
Several more eighth-stage mutants appeared as well.
They lined up in a row and plunged straight into the spider swarm from the flank.
Seeing this, Ye Hai let out a slight breath of relief, knowing that Liana had arrived.
That girl’s value in large-scale battles far exceeded his own.
“It looks like that side can be saved.”
But just then, large numbers of giant people-faced spiders began to gather on their own.
These ART-2 units had a deep impression of Zero. They knew very well that fighting her one-on-one would bring no advantage.
Moreover, they had also observed Ye Hai from afar and judged him to be an expert no weaker than Zero.
Very soon, more than thirty giant people-faced spiders charged toward Ye Hai’s side.
Seeing this, Ye Hai’s expression changed slightly.
“We can’t let those big ones get close.”
The moray eel had already taken considerable damage from hard-soaking the psychic attacks of the small people-faced spiders!
If those things got in a few more blows, the moray eel would definitely be severely wounded.
And if the moray eel ran into trouble and could no longer carry everyone to safety underground, then everything they had done before would be for nothing.
Thus, Ye Hai shouted, “Zero... together! We have to stop those big ones...”
Zero also understood how grave the situation was now.
Without the slightest hesitation, she followed Ye Hai and charged straight at the giant people-faced spiders.
Yet at that very moment, a black, hulking mutant streaked past behind them.
Before either of them could even make out what it was, the mutant had already crashed into the feet of the giant spiders like a battering ram, sending severed limbs and broken bodies flying everywhere.
When they looked more closely, Ye Hai and Zero were both stunned.
“What is that?”
It was a headless mutated zombie, holding a shield in its left hand and a huge long-handled axe in its right, charging fearlessly at more than thirty giant people-faced spiders.
Ye Hai sniffed lightly.
Puzzled, he said, “That mutant... seems to have Veronica’s scent on it?”
