Chapter 142: Willing to Fall for You, Part 26
When Le Yixian woke up, she found herself locked in a cell. Aside from the tattered hard bed beneath her, there was nothing else in the room.
Oh, and the red-black chains shackling her wrists—about thirty centimeters long—didn’t restrict her movement. She tried to use her magic but found she couldn’t; these chains were clearly designed to suppress her abilities.
The cell was dimly lit, with only a small window in the iron door letting in faint light.
Le Yixian looked out through the tiny window. Long corridors lined with similar cells stretched on either side, exuding a chilling atmosphere.
Suddenly, a scream pierced the silence.
“Master, please spare me! I didn’t do anything!”
Alongside the cries came the sound of whip lashes striking flesh. Le Yixian shivered at the pain she could hear. Surely she wouldn’t be subjected to such torture, would she?
As it turned out, she had worried for nothing.
For a while, if it weren’t for the demons delivering the unappetizing meals on schedule, Le Yixian might have thought she’d been forgotten.
“I heard His Majesty has reached the First Heaven, but Jehovah has awakened,” the little demons outside gossiped.
“I heard that too. His Majesty even fought Jehovah—almost wounded him.”
“But Jehovah’s awake now; this war will end soon.”
“That’s not certain.”
“What’s the inside scoop?”
“Wasn’t His Majesty in the Mortal Realm for a while? Rumor has it he found a little lover there. After she died, her soul was taken back to Heaven. This war is for her. Haven’t you heard our army’s motto: ‘Fight up to the Ninth Heaven, reclaim the Queen?’”
“I didn’t know that.”
“Is that little lover very beautiful? I don’t think anyone in this world is worthy of His Majesty.”
“His Majesty is first-class handsome, and I hear the little lover is no less so.”
Le Yixian leaned against the wall, listening to the gossip with mixed feelings. Being locked away in Hell was bad enough—Ke Yuandao, you fool!
...
The forces of Hell and Heaven had reached a stalemate.
Before Jehovah awoke, the Hell army held complete dominance over the Heavenly forces.
Because Michael, one of Heaven’s main warriors, was missing, and Jehovah remained asleep, only five seraphim were left to fight.
This time, besides the seventy-two demon kings, Lucifer himself, who rarely appeared on the battlefield, had joined the fray.
Satan’s presence undoubtedly boosted the demons’ morale.
The angelic forces, barely holding their own against the demon lords, were thoroughly overwhelmed.
They retreated while fighting, watching helplessly as demons rampaged through the First Heaven, destroying exquisite houses. Many ordinary angels who hadn’t had time to evacuate to the Second Heaven were caught in the chaos.
Just as the demons celebrated their impending advance into the Second Heaven, Jehovah, slumbering in the Grand Cathedral atop the crystal Ninth Heaven, finally awoke.
Jehovah was stunned. For tens of thousands of years, Heaven had been peaceful and sacred under his watch. Yet, while he dozed off, the First Heaven was breached, and demons swarmed the edges of the Second Heaven.
Furious, a golden divine light descended straight from the crystal heaven. The weak demons instantly vanished without a trace.
Jehovah then saw Gabriel and Raphael locked in combat with Lucifer. Seeing Gabriel about to be skewered by Lucifer’s longsword, Jehovah immediately descended upon him.
Rather than continue the fight, Gabriel’s eyes shone golden. Lucifer retreated, signaling his troops to withdraw, and said to Jehovah, “Hand over Angel Yue.”
Jehovah’s anger flared: “You fought over such a little angel?”
“What’s wrong with that?” Lucifer raised an eyebrow. “Since she’s just a little angel, handing her over won’t affect your Heaven’s operations.”
...
The demon army retreated, leaving the First Heaven devastated.
Inside the Grand Cathedral, Jehovah sat on his high throne. Usually emotionless, he swept his gaze over the seraphim before him, but the red-haired angel was nowhere to be seen. His voice carried a trace of anger as he asked, “Where is Michael?”
Gabriel, his arm bandaged, replied, “Father, when we were about to guide Angel Yue’s soul back to Heaven, we were attacked by Lucifer. Michael stayed behind to cover our retreat. When we returned, the Eastern Realm said Michael was taken by Lucifer.”
“There’s been no word from Michael in Hell either. We’re worried. Father, could you check on Michael’s status?” Raphael asked.
Jehovah’s golden eyes flickered. “Wait.”
He lowered his gaze, looking through the Ninth Heaven down into Hell.
The demons shuddered as if something dreadful was staring at them.
But on second thought, they were demons themselves; aside from Jehovah, they feared nothing.
Jehovah scanned but found no sign of Michael.
“I can still sense Michael’s presence. He may be imprisoned in the Abyssal Hell,” Jehovah said, withdrawing his gaze.
The Abyssal Hell was the lowest layer of Hell, shrouded in countless dark energies. Even as a god, he could not pierce the thick darkness to see inside.
The seraphim exchanged uneasy glances.
Gabriel, more hot-tempered, stepped forward. “Father, Lucifer’s goal this time is Angel Yue. She has already been reincarnated in the Mortal Realm as an ordinary angel. For Michael’s sake—”
Gabriel’s voice trailed off under Jehovah’s gaze.
“I will handle Angel Yue myself,” Jehovah said calmly. “You all focus on resolving the aftermath in the First Heaven. I will find a way for Michael.”
His meaning was clear: they were dismissed.
Gabriel wanted to protest but was pulled back by Haniya.
The seraphim left the Grand Cathedral and returned to their office in the Eighth Heaven.
Gabriel shrugged off Haniya’s hand, fuming, “Haniya, why did you hold me back?”
“Father has a plan. You shouldn’t question him,” Haniya replied.
“So I should just give up on Michael?”
Haniya frowned slightly. “Her relationship with Lucifer in the Mortal Realm is decent. I believe she’ll be fine.”
“I had a better relationship with Lucifer. If it weren’t for Father’s descent today, you’d be looking at my corpse,” Gabriel sneered.
At that moment, a might angel entered and bowed to the seraphim. “My lords, the latest news from Hell: if you want to get Lord Michael back, you must exchange for Might Angel Angel Yue.”
