Chapter 015: Campus Mary Sue 13
Le Yixian truly hadn’t expected that this body would be so delicate. Just a simple cold had kept her in a cycle of illness for over a month, and she’d even run a fever twice during that time.
Even after she was fully recovered, the second and third brothers of the Li family were not the least bit careless. They insisted she rest at home for another full week before allowing her to return to school.
Fortunately, Ke Yuandao came by every day to chat and keep her company, and occasionally Guo Yiyi and An Xiansi would drop in as well. Otherwise, she felt she might have started to mold from boredom.
By the time Le Yixian returned to school, the anniversary celebration had already begun.
The school was open to the public, and besides its own students, there were many outsiders wandering the campus.
Li’s second brother, still worried, said, “Little sister, maybe you should wait until the celebration is over to come back? There are so many people around, it’s chaotic.”
“I want to go,” Le Yixian replied.
Ke Yuandao had told her that their class had set up a café. The group of privileged young men and women wanted to experience being waiters, so they took turns covering shifts.
When he mentioned this, Le Yixian’s eyes sparkled as she said to him, “I want to see you in a steward’s uniform.”
Ke Yuandao agreed at once.
According to the schedule for their class, Ke Yuandao would be working as a waiter for two hours that very morning.
Naturally, Le Yixian couldn’t miss this.
Upon her return to school, she was greeted with a warm welcome from her classmates.
But everyone had their own tasks to attend to, and those who didn’t had already paired up to explore the festivities.
The school was filled with interesting booths and activities that day.
Several classmates invited Le Yixian to join them, but she shook her head and declined each invitation.
“Our fairy tale play starts at three in the afternoon, don’t forget to come watch,” An Xiansi reminded her, assuming she was still convalescing and didn’t want to wander around. With that, she dragged away Guo Yiyi, who’d wanted to stay behind to keep Le Yixian company.
“Why are you dragging me?” the leading lady protested, struggling to break free.
“Why? Aren’t you supposed to be rehearsing? You messed up your lines yesterday!” With that, the landlord’s simple-minded son hauled the leading lady away, utterly unconcerned about leaving his fiancée alone in the classroom on such a lively day.
Of course, Le Yixian didn’t mind at all, waving them off with a cheerful smile.
Once the classroom had mostly emptied, Le Yixian too stepped out. After asking around for the location of Class 4, Grade 1, she headed straight there.
Along the way, she realized her rainbow-colored hair was far too conspicuous, so she bought a frog-shaped cloak from a student stall and draped it over herself to hide her eye-catching tresses.
Class 4’s room had already been transformed by the students into a café. At the door, two girls in adorable maid outfits were greeting customers.
Judging by the expressions on their faces, they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
“Welcome to Leisure Café! Would you like to come in? Today’s coffee is freshly air-shipped from Mexico,” said one of the girls, pausing briefly when she saw the frog-hooded figure, but her smile quickly returned.
“Yes!” Le Yixian nodded.
“What kind of coffee would you like?” the girl asked, leading her to a window seat, beaming all the while.
“I’ll have…” Le Yixian stopped mid-sentence. Could she drink coffee?
Probably not.
“Is there anything besides coffee you’d recommend?” Le Yixian asked.
“There is!” The girl squinted playfully, hugging the menu to her chest. “Besides coffee, we have a very special recommendation.”
“What is it?”
“It’s our Fairy Set, modeled exactly after the diet of our very own school celebrity—Kritians Violet Galileo Victoria Alexander Li Muxue! It includes mineral water sourced from five thousand meters deep in the Xiyalama Mountains and a variety of fresh flowers,” the girl announced, enthusiastically pulling out a rainbow-colored flyer from the menu.
Le Yixian blinked in surprise. “What?”
She was a bit slow to process it.
“The Fairy Set is designed based on the daily menu of our renowned senior—Kritians Violet Galileo Victoria Alexander Li Muxue. She’s stunningly beautiful, ethereal, like a true fairy. Would you like to become just like her? This is our most popular set of the day!” The girl grew more and more excited, her cheeks flushing pink.
Le Yixian’s lips twitched, but she ordered the Fairy Set.
Delighted, the girl jotted down the order and bustled off to the back of the classroom—the “kitchen”—to place it.
Le Yixian glanced around and noticed that quite a few customers had ordered the Fairy Set.
“Here’s your order!” came a clear, gentle voice. Le Yixian looked up to see Ke Yuandao standing before her in a black steward’s uniform, carrying a tray.
The moment she met his eyes, Ke Yuandao’s hand wobbled slightly, though he managed to keep the tray steady. Looking into the girl’s shining eyes, he stammered, “Se… Senior!”
“You look great,” Le Yixian praised him. She wasn’t lying—his tall, straight figure had the poise of a pine tree, and the tailored uniform made him look especially handsome.
“Your… your order,” Ke Yuandao said, setting a crystal glass and a white porcelain plate on the table.
Le Yixian eyed the flowers and water on the table, then looked back up and asked, “Was it your idea to suggest the Fairy Set?”
“I just mentioned it offhand, and everyone agreed,” Ke Yuandao answered, bowing his head. He would never admit to his senior that he’d suggested it out of concern that she’d have nothing to eat if she came by the café.
“Oh, is that so~” Le Yixian drew out her words, then asked, “How much longer is your shift?”
“About an hour,” Ke Yuandao replied, checking his watch with a frown.
“All right, then. Go ahead, I’ll just sit here,” Le Yixian nodded, indicating he didn’t need to worry about her.
Ke Yuandao hesitated, standing rooted to the spot, as if wanting to say something.
“What is it?” Le Yixian arched an eyebrow.
“I… When I’m done, I’ll be free. Would you go wander the festival with me?” Ke Yuandao bit his lip and asked.
“Sure,” Le Yixian agreed readily.
Her straightforwardness left Ke Yuandao wide-eyed. Seeing his surprise, Le Yixian smiled. “Shouldn’t you get to work? The sooner you finish, the sooner we can go. I’ll wait for you.”
“All right,” Ke Yuandao replied, returning to his post with a dreamy look on his face.
Le Yixian couldn’t help but laugh, though the smile faded after a moment.
She propped her chin in her hand, watching Ke Yuandao busily moving about. Unable to resist, she let out a loud whistle, drawing everyone’s attention. Le Yixian didn’t care in the least, looking every bit the rogue.
Watching Ke Yuandao, flustered and awkward as he worked, Le Yixian thought silently to herself, How adorable!
