Startled by the scene before him, Ansians finally came to his senses. He strode quickly to Guo Yiyi’s side, crouched down, and asked with concern, “Little bookworm, are you alright?”

“I’m… fine,” Guo Yiyi replied without even looking up, still eating with relish.

Ansians’ expression was indescribably complex.

At that moment, Ke Yuandao, who had been tied up nearby, struggled a few times, drawing Ansians’ attention.

He glanced at the happily eating Guo Yiyi, then at the tightly bound Ke Yuandao, his look growing even more complicated.

She actually ignored her own companion just for food.

Once again, Ansians’ view of the girl before him was thoroughly upended.

Ke Yuandao stood up, rubbing his wrists. For some reason, he found the spiky-haired figure before him particularly irritating.

“Your parents are waiting for you at the foot of the mountain,” Ansians said, pausing before adding, “Mu Xue is there too.”

He remembered that Mu Xue and this boy seemed to get along well.

“Oh?” Hearing the unfamiliar name, Ke Yuandao simply nodded, his face giving nothing away.

Outside, the police had already managed to apprehend all the kidnappers. With the evidence collected, they were preparing to head down the mountain.

“Hey, bookworm, stop eating, let’s go.” Ansians grabbed Guo Yiyi by the collar and started dragging her out.

Guo Yiyi followed along passively, grumbling, “Don’t pull on my dress, it’s expensive.”

If it got torn, she couldn’t afford to replace it.

“What’s the worry? I’ll just buy you a few more,” Ke Yuandao said indifferently.

“Even so, don’t pull me. What if I fall down the mountain?” Guo Yiyi glanced nervously at the pitch-black slope below.

Ansians burst out laughing. “What’s there to be afraid of? I’m here.”

“And what can you do, you spoiled rich boy?” Guo Yiyi shot him a glare.

“What can I do?” Ansians eyed the figure ahead, mischief flickering in his gaze. He leaned in and blew a warm breath against her neck. “There are plenty of things I can do.”

“What the—ah!” Startled by his antics, Guo Yiyi jumped, the hem of her gown a bit too long. She stepped on it by accident and slipped, instinctively grabbing for something.

Ansians hadn’t yet reacted when he was dragged along with her, and together they tumbled off the mountain path.

Behind them, Ke Yuandao, who had witnessed the whole thing but was still processing what happened, could only gape in confusion.

“Someone just fell down the mountain!” someone finally shouted.

Flashlights swept over the edge, but all that could be seen was a stretch of darkness.

Meanwhile, those waiting below noticed the group coming down the path. Before they even got close, a policeman shouted, “Hurry, get the rescue team—someone’s fallen down the mountain!”

Le Yixian heard the officer’s words as she got out of the car, thinking to herself that, sure enough, even without outside interference, the male and female leads’ storylines would unfold on their own.

Then, in the dim light, she saw a thin figure approaching.

She took a few steps forward, but someone beat her to it.

Mother Ke, seeing her son safe and sound, was overwhelmed and ran straight over, tears streaming down her face.

“Mom, I’m fine,” Ke Yuandao said, hugging her, a bit helpless.

Father Ke circled around his son a few times. Seeing that apart from being a bit disheveled, he was unharmed, the anxiety in his heart finally eased. “As long as you’re alright, that’s all that matters.”

“Son, you really owe Mu Xue a big thank you this time. She helped a lot to save you,” Mother Ke said, wiping her tears and quickly addressing Le Yixian, who stood quietly nearby.

Following his mother’s gaze, Ke Yuandao looked over. There were no lights at the foot of the mountain, only the flashing of police cars.

By the pale moonlight and the flicker of those lights, he finally saw the girl’s face, and the strands of her multicolored hair.

Suddenly, memories surged back like a tide.

Everything he’d forgotten came rushing in.

Some people are like this: even if your memory erases them, they’re already etched into your bones. The moment you see them, you remember everything.

“Senior… Senior Sister,” he called out awkwardly. Why was she here?

How could she come to such a dangerous place?

“Mm,” Le Yixian thought he seemed a little odd just now, but the instant he looked up, he was once again the shy, familiar boy.

“It’s good you’re alright,” Le Yixian said, pausing before handing something over. “You dropped this by accident.”

Ke Yuandao looked closely—it was the rainbow caterpillar he’d left backstage. He accepted it. “Thank you, Senior Sister.”

No sooner had he taken the plush toy than his eyes fluttered closed and he fainted.

Only then did everyone notice the wound on the back of his head. The ambulance, already on standby, took him straight to the hospital.

Because Ansians and Guo Yiyi had fallen down the mountain, the quiet forest became lively in the dead of night.

Fortunately, both were protected by the protagonist’s halo, and by morning they were found at the foot of the mountain.

Guo Yiyi had broken her arm in the fall, while Ansians had fractured his leg.

Both were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Le Yixian made her rounds in the hospital, seeing one with his head wrapped like a rice dumpling, one with a cast on her arm, and another with his right leg suspended high.

Time flew by, and winter was gradually setting in.

Le Yixian stood at Ansians’ bedside. His spiky hair had been half-shorn, making him look particularly ridiculous.

“We need to talk,” Le Yixian said, sitting down beside him.

Ansians frowned slightly. “About what?”

“About what?” Le Yixian smiled, her gaze settling on him. “About you and the little girl, Guo Yiyan.”

Ansians’ eyes instantly grew wary, as though Le Yixian were a wicked witch. “How did you know she’s a girl?”

“How could I not? It’s so obvious.” Le Yixian raised an eyebrow. “You seem to have developed feelings for her.”

Ansians pressed his lips into a tight line, saying nothing.

“What are you planning to do?” Le Yixian pressed further.

Still, Ansians remained silent.

“Do you like her?”

“…Yes,” Ansians finally spoke. He looked deeply at the girl with the rainbow hair before him, a hint of apology on his face. “Mu Xue, I’m sorry. I can’t help myself. I’ve fallen for her, so I can’t marry you.”

“Though she’s a bit silly and clumsy, I still like her. I can only let you down…”

“Hold on,” Le Yixian finally couldn’t take it anymore and interrupted him, giving him a once-over, her gaze tinged with disdain. “Which eye of yours saw that I like you?”

This son of hers was truly hopeless.

Ansians was dumbfounded. “Didn’t you come to school because you liked me?”

“Not because of you, thank you,” Le Yixian rolled her eyes.

She had absolutely no interest in her foolish son.
