Chapter 25: Campus Mary Sue 23
Le Yixian also sat in the main hall, earnestly reiterating to her parents and brothers that she no longer liked An Xiansi—not because she’d been mistreated, but because her affections had turned toward someone else.
“Really?” The Li family members were naturally skeptical.
After all, they knew their own little princess well. Ever since she discovered that the ugly handmade dolls and birthday cards she received each year were gifts from An Xiansi, her heart had been wholly devoted to him. She’d cherished him for nearly ten years—how could one simply stop loving someone, as if changing a person altogether?
Yet, the way she spoke and her expression didn’t seem as if she was joking.
The Li family exchanged bewildered glances, none daring to speak.
“Master, Madam, Young Masters, Miss, the head of the An family has arrived.” Just as the atmosphere grew tense, the steward, Mr. Li, entered to report.
“Brother An is here—bring him in quickly,” Li’s father responded at once, urging the steward to invite him in.
An’s father entered alone, carrying a gift box. The moment he stepped into the hall and met the gaze of the entire Li family, he halted, feeling a twinge of guilt.
Wait, when did Brother Li return to the country? No, why are all the younger ones here as well? Could the matter of his foolish son wanting to break off the engagement have been leaked? Are these young people planning to gang up on him?
“Brother An, when did you return to the country?” Li’s father stepped forward, equally uneasy, wondering if his future in-law had caught wind of the impending dissolution of the engagement.
“I just arrived today,” An’s father replied, casting a furtive glance at his old friend before asking, “Brother Li, I thought your company was focusing on overseas expansion—why did you all suddenly return?”
“Ah, don’t mention it, it’s all because of the children,” Li’s father said, looking around. He realized An’s father hadn’t yet heard about his daughter wanting to break off the engagement, so he responded vaguely, adding, “We raised her with so much care—I just want her to live happily.”
So, if I really do bring up dissolving the engagement later, please don’t hold it against me.
An’s father felt a chill run through him at those words.
The only child of the Li family still living in the country was the youngest daughter. Wanting her to be happy—did that mean he knew about Xiansi’s intention to break off the engagement?
He glanced at the younger generation, his gaze finally settling on Le Yixian. Seeing her obedient and sensible demeanor, he wished he could thrash his own son. Look how well-behaved Muxue is—why break off a perfectly good engagement?
Now that the Li family knew, he needed to keep their emotions steady. “Muxue, you’re a good child. Don’t worry, Uncle will make sure Xiansi gives you a proper explanation.”
The Li family: “???”
“Brother Li, you can rest assured—I won’t let Xiansi break off the engagement. He will definitely marry Muxue.”
“What? He wants to break off the engagement with our Muxue?” Li’s father was stunned, then immediately reacted, his eyes wide.
An’s father: “…Weren’t you all here because Xiansi wanted to break off the engagement with Muxue?”
After An’s father left, Li’s father, Li’s mother, and the four brothers’ expressions grew dark and ominous.
“You want to break off the engagement just to help that brat An Xiansi and his so-called true love from who knows where?” The eldest Li brother couldn’t hold back, confronting his flower-chewing little sister.
“Of course not…” Le Yixian shook her head, but Li’s mother interrupted her.
She grasped her daughter's hands tightly, tears shimmering in her eyes, sorrowful and distressed. “My poor Muxue, how can you be so kind? You’ve always loved Xiansi so much.”
“No, I don’t like him at all.” Le Yixian replied with a blank expression.
The Li family naturally did not believe her.
Still, everyone felt they shouldn’t agitate her, fearing to upset her further after heartbreak. Gently, they urged her to return to her room and rest.
Once she had left, the Li family convened an emergency meeting. Their earlier confusion was dispelled by An’s father’s words.
So, it turned out An Xiansi was being ensnared by someone else, and their sweet, innocent, and loving daughter or sister was proposing to break off the engagement to let them be together. Unforgivable! How dare they bully the Li family!
They were determined to find out where that vixen had come from.
The Li family quickly dispatched people to investigate, as did the An family.
Guo Yiyi’s information was soon delivered.
“Attending school in place of her brother? What nonsense is this?” The eldest Li brother stared at the dossier, incredulous.
The differences between boys and girls are so obvious—were all the students at school blind? Could they not tell?
Guo Yiyi had a broken arm, but her condition was much better than An Xiansi’s. She was staying in a ward not far from him, visiting her newly confirmed lover each day for sweet conversations, finding life incredibly blissful.
This day, after finishing her chat with An Xiansi, she happily returned to her room, only to find an unexpected visitor.
The newcomer was a middle-aged man in a black suit, whose features bore a resemblance to An Xiansi.
“Miss Guo, is it?” An’s father looked at the girl, gesturing to the chair opposite. “Sit, let’s talk.”
“And you are?” Guo Yiyi ventured cautiously, already suspecting.
“I am his father,” he said—both understood whom he meant.
“Good afternoon, Uncle,” Guo Yiyi hurriedly greeted him.
“I came to discuss your brother’s illness,” An’s father began directly. “I know a renowned neurologist. I can arrange for him to see your brother.”
At the mention of Guo Yiyan, Guo Yiyi’s face lit up with delight. “Really?”
“Yes,” An’s father nodded, eyeing her as he spoke, “However, I have one condition.”
His eyes narrowed slightly. “You must leave Stoneton Academy—and leave Xiansi.”
Guo Yiyi’s face went deathly pale.
“I know about your relationship with Xiansi, but he has long been engaged to Muxue. She is of equal status to him…”
Guo Yiyi stared at the middle-aged man before her, feeling as though she’d been cast into the depths of winter.
—
Ke Yuandao’s hospital room faced the sunrise, golden rays of the setting sun spilling through the window.
The atmosphere inside was warm and tender.
The young man, his head wrapped like a zongzi, leaned helplessly against the wall, his handsome face flushed. Standing before him, the girl with rainbow-colored hair braced a hand against the wall, wearing the mischievous smile of a rogue, teasing him. “Tell me, who am I to you?”
“Mast… you…” The words “girlfriend” just wouldn’t come out.
“If you don’t say it, I’ll kiss you,” Le Yixian threatened.
Ke Yuandao’s eyes snapped open wider, a spark of struggle flickering within. He tilted his chin in heroic resolve, stammering, “If you’re going to kiss me… can you kiss me a while longer?”
My goodness, how adorable.
If I don’t kiss him, I’m not human, Le Yixian thought fiercely, leaning in as their lips were about to meet.
“Bang!”
“Muxue, I don’t want to marry you!” someone burst in through the door.
