Witnessing the car accident, Su Cheng’s face was filled with astonishment. That woman seemed to have deliberately crashed into the police car just now—are people really that desperate for insurance scams these days?

“I—I didn’t mean to. That person suddenly rushed out so close, there was no way to brake in time.” Ayaka Zejo was drenched in cold sweat, her dark hair clinging to her face as she spoke in panic.

“Got it. Let’s go help her first.”

Su Cheng comforted the anxious Ayaka Zejo and walked toward the woman who’d been thrown by the police car.

A few meters away, the woman lay motionless on the ground, covered in blood, her chest barely rising and falling—she seemed on the verge of death.

Su Cheng crouched beside her, carefully examining her wounds.

As his palm pressed against her abdomen, the unconscious woman’s breathing paused for a moment, pain flickering across her face. Yet, she remained unconscious, still looking as if she could die any moment.

Still pretending.

Su Cheng sneered inwardly; this woman had deliberately approached them, clearly with an ulterior motive.

The police car had been going over seventy kilometers per hour. An ordinary person struck at such speed wouldn’t survive, or at best would end up in intensive care. Yet, as he checked her injuries, he found she’d only broken a few bones and suffered some superficial wounds.

In other words, this woman’s physical resilience was far beyond normal.

That made her identity highly suspicious.

“How is she? Is there any hope?” Ayaka Zejo looked anxious. If the victim had been a zombie, she wouldn’t have felt any guilt or hesitation, but this woman was clearly human—she’d even heard her cry for help.

Su Cheng shook his head with a somber expression. “There’s no saving her. Let’s move her to the side and bury her, then continue on.”

The woman pretending to be unconscious clenched her fist, wishing she could get up and punch him.

“But… isn’t that a bit heartless? Shouldn’t we send her to a hospital?”

“The hospitals nearby are deserted. Do you want to bring a corpse with us?”

Ayaka Zejo nodded helplessly and was about to move the woman blocking the road, when she suddenly let out a weak cry, “Help…”

“She’s still alive.”

“With injuries that severe, she probably won’t last long. Better to bury her.”

At those words, the woman’s heart skipped a beat; she hurriedly opened her eyes, shooting Su Cheng a venomous glare.

“I’m in so much pain…”

Ayaka Zejo was surprised to see the woman regain consciousness. “You’re awake? Sorry, I didn’t notice anyone was there just now.”

“Help me, I might still be saved…”

Afraid they’d abandon her due to her serious injuries, the woman did her best to show a strong will to live.

“That crash drew a lot of attention—infected are heading this way. We’d better leave quickly.” Su Cheng was also curious what this woman’s true intentions were, so he loaded her into the car and continued toward Hachioji.

Five hundred meters from the police car, a man in a beret watched Su Cheng’s every move. Seeing Yoshiko gain their trust and get into the car, he smiled slyly.

“Yoshiko’s in. Let’s head back to base and wait for this big fish to bite.”

On the way, Su Cheng could tell from his observations that this woman was likely a player in the horror game. Risking her life to approach them, she must have more in mind than just hitching a ride.

“Careful, there’s a horde of zombies ahead.”

Ayaka Zejo slammed the gas, sending a hideous zombie flying and speeding through the horde, leaving them far behind.

Ordinary zombies react slowly and couldn’t possibly catch up with the police car; shaking them off wasn’t difficult. The real trouble was their sheer numbers, blocking the road to Hachioji. Ayaka Zejo had to detour around the massive horde, losing a lot of time.

“At this rate, we won’t reach Hachioji before nightfall. We’ll need to find a safe place to spend the night.”

With power out across the city, nighttime would be especially dangerous—no one knew where the terrifying zombies might emerge from.

“I know a place that’s safe,” Yoshiko, who’d barely spoken, suddenly offered, her gaze flashing. “It’s an underground air-raid shelter, not far from here.”

“How do you know there’s an air-raid shelter nearby?”

Su Cheng glanced at her in the rearview mirror, feigning casual curiosity.

Yoshiko seemed caught off guard by the question and replied with evasive eyes, “I used to live around here for a while.”

“I see.” Su Cheng narrowed his eyes slightly, appearing to accept her answer. “Let’s check out the shelter. If there are no infected, we’ll spend the night there.”

Yoshiko quietly breathed a sigh of relief, a hint of triumph flickering in her eyes.

Soon, Ayaka Zejo followed Yoshiko’s directions to the entrance of the underground shelter.

“This is it. There are no infected nearby, so it should be safe,” Yoshiko said, leading the way with a flashlight, guiding Su Cheng and Ayaka Zejo into the shelter as if she knew it well.

Though Ayaka Zejo found the woman odd, she didn’t dwell on it.

Pushing open the iron door at the entrance and descending ten steps, the space opened up before Su Cheng.

It was an abandoned air-raid shelter, over seven hundred square meters in area.

To his surprise, the shelter had been converted into a secret base, furnished with tables, lights, beds, and several motorcycles parked nearby.

“There are others here—survivors?”

As Su Cheng and Ayaka Zejo entered, several people immediately surrounded them with unfriendly expressions.

“Boss Kitajima, I’ve brought back the prey,” Yoshiko’s attitude shifted instantly, smiling coldly at the two.

Before them, a burly, bald man in a loose robe, a black dragon tattooed across his chest, walked over wielding a steel knife.

Kitajima’s group numbered over ten, each armed, looking at Su Cheng and Ayaka Zejo like lambs on the chopping block.

“Who are you people?” Only now did Ayaka Zejo realize it was a trap. Her hand went to her gun at her waist, tension flickering in her eyes.

“Yoshiko, do they really have food and medicine?” The bald man’s lips curled, revealing yellow teeth as his lecherous gaze lingered on Ayaka Zejo.

“Third and Fourth saw them take the supply crate—they definitely have something good. Boss Kitajima, how will you reward me?” Yoshiko grinned seductively, a spring-like light in her eyes.

“You little minx, I’ll deal with the cop first, then with you.”

The man in the green beret’s face twisted with hatred. Yoshiko had once been his girlfriend, but after joining Kitajima’s group, she’d quickly dumped him.

Watching Yoshiko flirt with Kitajima in front of him, the beret on his head seemed even brighter.

“Fine. But leave the man for me—I’ll tear him to pieces and feed him to the dogs!” Yoshiko glared at Su Cheng with a vicious grin, eager to rip him apart.

At that moment, Su Cheng, who had been silent, spoke up: “You’re members of Black Dragon Hall?”

In Japan, only gangsters had tattoos, and this bald man had a black dragon emblazoned on his chest—his identity was clear.

“So you know Black Dragon Hall? I’m Kitajima Masao, the boss himself.”

Kitajima Masao rubbed his gleaming bald head, glaring fiercely at Su Cheng.

Apparently, the police had only caught some low-level thugs before—the real masterminds behind the gang were these horror game players.

Unfortunately for them, they had run into Su Cheng.

A true twist of fate.

Su Cheng’s lips curled into a cold smile.

“Don’t come any closer.”

Ayaka Zejo raised her pistol, flicked off the safety, and aimed at Kitajima. Seeing his tattoo, she had already guessed their identity.

Although gangs were legal in Japan, as a police officer, Ayaka Zejo had nothing but contempt for these lawless criminals.

“Heh, pointing a gun at me—got some guts. If you dare, shoot right here.” Kitajima tapped his temple in challenge.

Bang!

In the next instant, smoke rose from Ayaka Zejo’s gun, a bullet streaked toward Kitajima’s head.

But as the bullet reached him, it was caught by an invisible force, suspended in midair.

“What is this—superpowers?”

Ayaka Zejo’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“Idiot, that’s Boss Kitajima’s skill—Magnetic Shield. No metal weapon or bullet can harm him,” sneered a fat man holding a submachine gun.

Kitajima Masao’s domination of the game relied on his Magnetic Shield skill.

With it, neither infected nor humans could harm him. Plus, he had a gang of desperados at his command—ordinary players wouldn’t dare cross him.

He was cautious, too—avoiding the most powerful pro players on the leaderboard. After the game began, he’d set up this base in an abandoned shelter far from the city center, collecting resources and hunting zombies step by step.

Kitajima’s fortune had made him overconfident, reckless. Without investigating Su Cheng’s background, he had brought him straight into the base.

Kitajima flashed a ferocious grin at Ayaka Zejo. “Go ahead. Don’t damage her face—it won’t be as fun that way.”

Yoshiko, burning with hatred for Su Cheng, rushed forward, her hand now adorned with metal gauntlets covered in sharp spikes. If they struck, they’d leave his body riddled with bloody holes.

But in the next moment, Yoshiko’s cold smile froze. As she lunged at Su Cheng, she realized her arm was gone.
