The roar of the engine thundered through the zombie-infested streets like the bellow of a monstrous beast. Ling Zecheng’s eyes betrayed a hint of nervousness; her white teeth pressed into her lower lip as she floored the accelerator per Su Cheng’s command, sending the war vehicle barreling toward the wall of flesh and blood.

The modified vehicle slammed headlong into the fleshy web, the pinkish tendrils as tough as rubber bands, unusually resilient. For a moment, the war car could not break through; instead, its speed slowed considerably. Just then, grotesque, twisted faces began to emerge from the wall, blood-soaked arms stretching out toward Ling Zecheng in the driver’s seat.

The sight of such a terrifying scene drained the color from Ling Zecheng’s face. She steered with one hand while drawing her pistol with the other, firing at the hideous faces.

Bang! Bang!

At such close range, the horrific faces were reduced to mangled flesh. Yet, more zombies pressed in, their decaying arms reaching through the car window, grasping at her.

Su Cheng pressed his palm against a rotting face squashed against the windshield, crunching the zombie’s skull with a single squeeze. Without hesitation, he drew his blade and slashed at the zombies clawing their way inside.

A flash of steel—heads and arms toppled to the ground, dissolving into pools of blood.

“Use the incendiary grenades!”

Seeing a horde of zombies surging behind, Su Cheng sliced through the fleshy net with his blade, and the war car roared free from the encirclement.

An incendiary grenade exploded at the zombies’ feet; flames ignited and swept forward like wildfire in dry grass. Thick, black smoke billowed upward. The street became a giant crematorium, countless zombies reduced to ash in the inferno.

“We’re… we’re safe.”

Just as Aishi exhaled in relief, a dozen zombie beasts circled the wall of fire and gave chase from behind.

“Zombie beasts!”

These were different from the zombie beasts Su Cheng had encountered at police headquarters; they were mutated predators from the nearby zoo—ferocious and savage.

Aishi pulled an MG3 machine gun from the weapons box, slung two belts of ammunition crosswise over her body, and kicked open the rear door of the school bus, taking aim at the pursuing beasts.

Just then, a mutated gray wolf lunged, its maw wide enough to swallow the little girl whole.

“Die, monsters!”

The dark muzzle of the gun was shoved straight into the beast’s mouth. The MG3’s thunder tore through the zombie-haunted street, every bullet blazing into the creature’s gut.

The roaring gun shredded the beast’s belly; bullets sprayed out the back, shredding the zombies behind into pulp.

Though the little girl was weak in hand-to-hand combat, she wielded firearms with exceptional skill and showed no lack of courage against the undead. Her previous misfortune was simply due to the absence of a team where her talents could shine.

Still, many zombie beasts clung to the rear of the bus. Some cunning ones, using their companions as cover, slipped quietly inside.

The little girl was nimble but frail—a Chihuahua in a brawl. Without protection, one bite from a zombie beast would mean certain death.

Yet, as the sneaky beasts crawled inside, a cold, sharp blade awaited them.

Swish, swish.

Su Cheng dispatched the beasts with a few swift strikes, then hefted his 98K sniper rifle, taking aim at a zombie beast lunging for the girl. He squeezed the trigger without hesitation.

A bullet fired, striking the beast squarely in the head. The rifle’s infamous lethality didn’t disappoint—its skull burst open, and the hulking form collapsed instantly.

The battle raged through the morning. At last, Su Cheng and his group shook off their pursuers and reached Hachioji City, headquarters of Mitsui Pharmaceuticals.

“That was close. We were almost eaten back there,” Aishi said, pulling a can of imported dog food from her backpack. She opened it and crunched away happily, her furry tail wagging as she ate, clearly in good spirits.

Su Cheng sheathed his blade and curiously squeezed the soft, furry ears atop Aishi’s head—they felt wonderful. Her dog ears and tail weren’t mere accessories; they were part of her.

“Aishi, what’s with your ears and tail? Genetic mutation?”

The little girl patted her head. “Oh, this? Last time in a dungeon, I accidentally drank a beast transformation potion. Suddenly, I turned out like this.”

“After the transformation, my sense of smell and reflexes improved a lot—though my tastes changed, too.” She offered the can of dog food to Su Cheng. “Big brother, want to try some? This is premium imported stuff—high energy, great flavor. Some people buy it as snacks.”

Su Cheng eyed the can and twitched at the corners of his mouth. “No, thanks. You go ahead.”

At that moment, a jeep appeared in Su Cheng’s line of sight.

At the wheel sat a beautiful young woman with long hair; in the back was a high school girl.

Eri Saotome!

“They seem to be heading for Mitsui Group headquarters too. Could she be a player as well?”

For some reason, Su Cheng sensed a sinister aura about the woman driving. In the blink of an eye, the jeep disappeared from view.

Not long after, following the map, Su Cheng’s group arrived at the Mitsui Pharmaceuticals headquarters, spotting the jeep parked outside.

Besides the woman, there was a man dressed in a dark trench coat, exuding the aura of a black crow.

Just then, the two from the jeep noticed Su Cheng.

Their eyes met—for an instant, Su Cheng felt as if countless vengeful spirits and evil shades lunged for him, gnawing at his flesh, a murderous aura pouring forth.

“My, such terrifying bloodlust. What a violent man. Fei, why don’t you keep him company for a bit?” The man in the trench coat whistled, his eyes narrowing dangerously. He got out, leading Eri Saotome into the Mitsui building.

What struck Su Cheng as odd was Eri’s utter calm—she didn’t resist at all.

“I understand,” replied the beautiful woman, expressionless, retrieving a short dagger from the jeep and striding purposefully toward the armored vehicle.

She started at a brisk walk, quickened to a jog, then sprinted toward Su Cheng at full speed.

“She’s coming!” Su Cheng’s eyes narrowed; he revved the engine, aiming the vehicle straight at the charging woman.

Clearly, she intended to kill him. Su Cheng saw no reason to show mercy simply because she was beautiful.

When she was ten meters from the school bus, she leapt high into the air with astonishing agility, spanning the distance in a single bound.

With a thunderous crash, she landed on the windshield. Web-like cracks spread over the glass, but she remained unscathed.

The reinforced windshield shattered. The woman’s dagger plunged mercilessly toward Su Cheng’s heart.

He felt the cold, sharp tip against his chest.

With a sudden twist of the wheel, Su Cheng seized the moment as she lost her balance, lightning-quick, grabbing her wrist.

A powerful force surged through his hand—though slender, the woman was incredibly strong, like a female colossus. She yanked Su Cheng off the bus with her.

Ling Zecheng slammed the brakes, bringing the bus to a halt.

“Big brother, be careful!” The little girl, worried, trained her submachine gun on the scene but dared not fire—Su Cheng and the woman were entangled, and a stray bullet could hit him.

The two of them rolled across the ground, grappling fiercely, until at last they stopped.

The metallic scent of blood filled the air—a ten-centimeter gash burned across Su Cheng’s arm, pain searing his nerves like fire.

With a kick to her abdomen, Su Cheng sent the woman flying several meters. He stepped forward, drew his blade, and struck.

A soft, slicing sound.

The cold blade slid diagonally into the woman’s breast.

But in the next moment,

the woman grinned,

revealing a mouthful of terrifying, gleaming fangs…
