Chapter 15: The Truth Behind the Dungeon
"Boss Ye, you're amazing."
"As expected of Boss Ye!"
"Sis, isn't throwing bananas tiring? Let me give you a shoulder massage?"
A few people gathered around.
Lin An was actually pushed out.
Lin An was utterly stunned.
As the first loyal follower of the big boss, how could he not get close now?
Ye Luo looked at the enthusiastic crowd, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
"Move aside," Lin An said. "You're crowding my Boss Ye!"
The others hurriedly made space.
Lin An rushed to Ye Luo at once. "Sis, I truly see you as my own sister. These people aren't the same—they just want to cling to you. Don't let them fool you."
Everyone shot Lin An a look.
No wonder he was the first to latch onto the boss’s side.
At the very least—
He was shameless enough.
Ye Luo glanced helplessly at Lin An, just about to speak.
Suddenly.
A mechanical voice sounded.
"Thirty minutes are up. All participants with numbered tags, please leave the Monkey Garden immediately."
"Thirty minutes are up. All participants with numbered tags, please leave the Monkey Garden immediately."
"Thirty minutes are up. All participants with numbered tags, please leave the Monkey Garden immediately."
The announcement repeated three times.
As the mechanical voice faded, the nearby monkeys, who had still been roaming, suddenly displayed a look of terror.
They let out human-like shrieks and scattered, fleeing into the woods.
Then—
A previously distant beastly roar thundered forth, now ear-splitting and overwhelming.
It was as if countless savage creatures had broken free of their shackles, ready to wreak havoc.
Ye Luo's face changed. She quickly said, "Quick, split up and work together—gather all the numbered tags first!"
She handed the number 9 tag to Huo Qianqian and swiftly started searching the monkeys’ corpses.
The others also hurried to search for the tags.
Holding her own tag, Huo Qianqian paused, her gaze growing complicated.
Ye Luo...
She seemed cold, but perhaps she was actually a good person.
Huo Qianqian’s fingers trembled slightly.
Then she pressed her lips together, her eyes growing resolute.
She seemed to have made a decision.
Everyone knew that staying any longer would spell disaster, so they moved quickly.
The numbered tags were soon gathered.
After a simple check, everyone had their own tag.
Four remained.
They must have belonged to the three dead participants and the scar-faced man.
Su Xiao silently took one of the tags.
Ye Luo glanced at her but said nothing.
The tag Su Xiao picked must have been the scar-faced man's.
She still wanted to save her husband?
Ye Luo couldn’t be bothered to care.
Once everyone had their tags, a dreadful sense of oppression descended.
Ye Luo didn’t even look back. She shouted, "Run!"
Then she bolted for the exit.
The others scrambled to follow.
"Damn! What’s happening?!" The scar-faced man woke up in shock. At a glance, he saw the hillside swarming with blood-eyed giant monkeys charging toward them.
These enormous monkeys were three to four meters tall. When they moved together, it was as if the world itself was shaking.
The scar-faced man's face turned white with fear.
He didn’t stop to think—he ran desperately for the exit.
He was fast enough to catch up to Su Xiao, who had fallen behind.
"You stupid woman, you—" the scar-faced man began to curse.
Su Xiao hurriedly produced a numbered tag. "Honey, here’s your tag—I picked it up for you. As long as you have this, you can clear the stage."
The scar-faced man’s expression softened a little. "At least you know your place, but remember, this isn’t over between us."
"Yes, yes," Su Xiao replied docilely, handing him the tag. "Take it, honey. We’re almost at the exit."
He reached out to take it.
The next instant—
Bang!
A sharp pain exploded in his skull.
The scar-faced man stared in disbelief at his seemingly weak and submissive wife.
What she held wasn’t a numbered tag at all—it was a jagged stone.
Now, the sharp edge of the stone was buried in his forehead, blood streaming down and blurring his vision.
"Die," Su Xiao said coldly, and with one kick, sent him tumbling into the monkey horde.
The scar-faced man opened his mouth to curse, but—
Crack!
A giant monkey’s paw smashed away half his head.
His body was quickly swallowed up by the mob.
The scar-faced man was dead.
But Su Xiao was now dangerously close to the horde herself.
The giant monkeys soon caught up to her.
Su Xiao’s face was pale, but her eyes held little fear.
Instead, she seemed almost relieved.
At that moment—
Someone seized her hand.
Su Xiao turned to see Ye Luo.
Ye Luo’s expression was calm.
The monkey monsters were too fast. At this rate, they’d be caught before reaching the exit.
They had to come up with something.
Ye Luo quickly threw her last banana.
Bananas had worked wonders on the previous monkey monsters.
But these giant monkeys only paused a moment before charging on.
Even bananas... were useless now...
Ye Luo’s eyes sharpened. Without hesitation, she took out her flashlight.
She didn’t like to use it; she always felt overusing it might bring trouble.
But when life was at stake, such concerns seemed trivial.
Ye Luo switched on the flashlight, shining the beam at the giant monkeys.
They were so large that she could only manage to shine it on three.
Those three immediately froze, terror etched on their faces. Their steps halted instantly.
Ye Luo kept the flashlight on for only a moment before turning it off, then dashed for the exit.
Behind her came the sound of earth-shaking combat.
Nearing the exit, Ye Luo glanced back.
The three giant monkeys she’d illuminated were now being attacked by the others.
It didn’t take long.
The three were beaten down and trampled into a pulp.
Ye Luo’s heart tightened.
They were attacked?
Why?
Just because they were shone on by the light?
A phrase suddenly flashed through Ye Luo’s mind.
The Dark Forest.
This instance was a theme park.
If it were called Frog Park or something similar, that would make perfect sense.
But why—
Why was it named Dark Forest?
Recalling the fate of those monkeys attacked after being illuminated, Ye Luo’s mind sharpened with sudden realization.
The Dark Forest.
Is this the true nature of this place?
