Chapter 33: Chen Xiaoyue
Ye Luo gazed at the man without a trace of emotion, quietly activating her ability.
"I know who you are," she invoked.
In an instant, the man’s name and birth details surfaced in her mind.
"Yue Qiang. Born July 8th, 1983, at midnight."
A flicker passed through Ye Luo’s eyes.
In this era where the uncanny had descended, she realized that perhaps this power of hers was not so useless after all. If someone possessed a curse-type ability, and she could so easily obtain a person’s full birth details, wouldn’t it make casting curses as simple as uttering a word?
That thought merely flashed through her mind as Yue Qiang stepped up to her.
Without a word, he raised a thick, muscular arm and swung down hard towards Ye Luo.
She remained silent, raising her slender hand to block him calmly.
A cruel grin twisted Yue Qiang’s lips.
His strength was now enhanced, even if only at the initial stage—but to deal with a frail-looking woman, wasn’t that effortless?
She dared to stop him? Was she courting death?
He grinned, already savoring the image of her being sent sprawling to the ground by a single blow.
But in the next instant—
His smile froze.
Yue Qiang stared at Ye Luo in disbelief.
Her hand had so effortlessly gripped his wrist.
He tried to break free, but her strength was even greater than his, despite his enhancement.
How could this be?
He attempted to exert all his might.
But Ye Luo grew impatient with this game. Gripping his wrist, she gave a swift, decisive twist.
Yue Qiang’s power was only at a C-level, and even that had not yet evolved. Translated into numbers, his strength was around eleven points. It surpassed human limits, but compared to Ye Luo, it was nothing.
Of course, if his ability continued to upgrade, he would likely surpass her current strength in the future.
But for now—
He was far from it.
Yue Qiang was thrown to the ground in an instant.
He struggled to rise.
Ye Luo raised her foot and stepped down on his chest, expressionless.
Yue Qiang found himself utterly unable to move.
She looked down at him impassively. "With this paltry strength, you dare bully the weak? Hm?"
Yue Qiang’s eyes widened, but then he was overcome with wild joy.
This woman was sealing her own fate.
She didn’t know his name, yet she dared address him directly!
Yue Qiang waited eagerly for the rule to take effect.
But—
One second.
Two seconds.
Ye Luo remained perfectly unharmed.
Yue Qiang’s face changed dramatically.
What was happening? Did this woman… know who he was?
This was impossible!
Ye Luo arched an eyebrow. "Yue Qiang, what are you waiting for?"
His expression shifted again.
She truly knew his name.
A shroud of mystery seemed to settle over Ye Luo’s otherwise calm features.
At that moment, she was pondering how best to deal with him.
Just then, the roar of motorcycles pierced the air.
What was happening?
Ye Luo frowned slightly.
Behind her, someone exclaimed in delight, "It’s the Law Enforcement Squad—they’re here!"
"They’ve handled dozens of brawls since last night. Their captain has an A-level ability—he can control fire. He’s incredibly powerful."
"Now that the Law Enforcement Squad is here, Yue Qiang’s finished!"
An A-level captain?
Then there was no need for her to intervene further.
Ye Luo took up the rope and bound Yue Qiang tightly, then left without a backward glance.
She had no desire to cross paths with the authorities.
After all, she had her secrets, and too much contact with officials was unwise.
By the time Lin An and his squad arrived on their sleek motorcycles, Ye Luo had already vanished.
Lin An immediately spotted the trussed-up Yue Qiang.
He produced his ID and introduced himself. "Law Enforcement Squad Captain Lin An, Jiang City. What happened here?"
He didn’t look at anyone in particular as he spoke, so as not to violate the rules.
The others followed suit, introducing themselves, and someone mentioned Yue Qiang’s name.
Zhang Wenqiang even animatedly recounted how Yue Qiang had been felled by a single blow from a woman.
Beaten by a woman in one move?
Lin An’s eyes lit up.
Yue Qiang had enhanced strength, yet had been taken down instantly.
That woman… could it be Sister Ye?
Not just could—it almost certainly was.
Lin An gazed anxiously in the direction the crowd indicated the woman had gone.
He very much wanted to see Ye Luo again.
But—
Seeing Yue Qiang bound on the ground, Lin An did not give chase.
He was now the squad captain of Jiang City.
Since Ye Luo had helped him obtain such a powerful ability, he had a responsibility to bear.
Otherwise, he would have wasted all the help she’d given him.
He ordered his team to take Yue Qiang into custody.
Lin An led his squad back out on patrol.
Meanwhile, Ye Luo had already arrived at Huo Qianqian’s house.
She didn’t enter immediately, but waited patiently in a concealed spot.
Once she was certain no one was nearby, she keyed in the code and entered the villa.
Without hesitation, she made her way straight to the study.
Huo Qianqian, recognized as an outstanding entrepreneur, had a study filled with trophies. But it was clear she didn’t care much for them—a fine layer of dust coated each one.
Ye Luo gave them only a glance before looking away.
She scanned the room and quickly found the safe.
The rabbit-shaped jade pendant Huo Qianqian had mentioned was inside.
She opened the safe and checked each box in turn.
In one, she found a medal.
Beneath the medal was a certificate.
"Congratulations to Chen Xiaoyue for winning the children’s piano competition, junior division champion."
The trophies outside were all covered in dust, but this medal shone as if brand new.
Ye Luo’s eyes flickered with faint confusion.
For as long as she could remember, she had been an orphan.
She couldn’t quite understand why one person could have such strong feelings for another.
In her reading, she had even discovered that many mothers would willingly sacrifice everything for an unborn child.
Ye Luo couldn’t grasp it.
But she vaguely yearned for it.
Perhaps she yearned for all the emotions in the world.
Maybe that was how it was for everyone—whatever you lacked, you longed for.
Ye Luo soon found the little jade rabbit pendant. She hesitated briefly, then took the medal as well.
When the rules shifted, she planned to visit the neighboring city of Lin.
But—
She wasn’t sure.
Was Chen Xiaoyue still alive?
In a world like this, death was all too common.
Ye Luo put the items away and quickly left Huo Qianqian’s house.
From now on, barring emergencies, she did not plan to leave the villa again.
There were many ability users outside, but the authorities were quick to respond—the Law Enforcement Squad was already established, and the captain possessed an A-level ability. There were only about three thousand A-level users in the world; in Jiang City, there was likely just this one.
With such a captain, basic order should be maintained.
As long as the world didn’t fall completely into chaos, Ye Luo believed she could still enjoy a period of peaceful days.
