Perhaps, thinking Ye Luo was already like meat on the chopping block, completely at their mercy, this family soon revealed their true colors.

Ye Luo glanced around the room, her gaze finally settling on Zhang Yanhong.

She kept her head pressed low, her body trembling faintly. In this moment, she seemed different from the other three.

“Refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit!” Zhang Jintao strode over, taking the meat from Chen Cuihua’s hands. “Huazi, tie her up for me. Woman, pry her mouth open for me.”

Zhang Hua and Chen Cuihua agreed at once and moved forward.

Interesting.

Ye Luo raised an eyebrow, and in her hand, a cast-iron wok appeared out of thin air.

She kicked Zhang Jintao aside with one swift motion, then swung the wok, striking Zhang Hua and Chen Cuihua squarely in the face. The two of them were sent flying.

“This woman isn’t right, I—” Zhang Jintao shouted, preparing to rush at her again.

Expressionless, Ye Luo brought the wok down on his head.

Stars exploded before Zhang Jintao’s eyes, and he staggered unsteadily.

Damn!

What was with this woman? Was that strength even human?

“What are you two standing there for? Restrain her!” Zhang Jintao roared.

Zhang Hua and Chen Cuihua struggled to get back on their feet.

Ye Luo’s face remained impassive. Suddenly, she brought her palm down and split the table in two.

The three of them were speechless.

Zhang Hua’s face twisted with terror.

What sort of monster had he brought into his home?

Ye Luo, no longer appearing innocent or naive, now seemed cold and distant, her gaze as indifferent as a reaper from hell.

Zhang Yanhong looked at her in surprise.

She had thought yet another woman would fall victim here.

But this was clearly no ordinary woman.

Yet, it was useless.

Zhang Yanhong lowered her head, grief flickering across her face.

No matter how powerful she was, some things were already fated.

“What are you waiting for?” Ye Luo frowned at Zhang Yanhong. “Go and tie up these three for me.”

Zhang Yanhong looked up sharply, shocked.

Ye Luo, impatience in her voice, added: “Or do you want me to do it myself?”

After a moment’s hesitation, Zhang Yanhong actually went out to find some rope.

Soon, she returned with a thick hemp rope.

“You wretched girl, what do you think you’re doing!” Zhang Jintao shouted angrily.

Ye Luo struck him again with the wok.

Zhang Jintao reeled, dizzy.

Zhang Yanhong silently tied him up, doing the same with the other two.

Yet, despite their fate being in Ye Luo’s hands, the three showed not an ounce of fear, continuing to curse and spit venom.

“Damn woman, you’d better let us go! The village chief won’t let you off!”

“Yeah, the chief will teach you a lesson.”

“Wretched girl, you really dare lay hands on us? Tomorrow, I’ll beat you to death, you hear me?”

“If you want to survive, untie us right now.”

Their voices overlapped, one after another.

Ye Luo frowned and asked Zhang Yanhong, “Aren’t they afraid of dying?”

Zhang Yanhong’s expression was complicated, but she said nothing.

Chen Cuihua glared at Ye Luo, her eyes full of malice. “Just you wait, you bitch! Tomorrow, I’ll see how you die.”

“If you let us go now and eat the meat, we can talk this over. Otherwise, we won’t let you off,” Zhang Jintao added.

They truly seemed to feel they had nothing to fear.

But why? Why did they keep mentioning tomorrow?

Did something happen to them after tomorrow?

Ye Luo found herself deep in thought.

Just then, Zhang Yanhong quietly slipped out.

Before long, she returned, this time with a kitchen cleaver in hand.

“Wretched girl, what are you doing!”

“You wouldn’t dare lay a hand on us!”

“Just try it!”

The three of them shouted.

Zhang Yanhong walked straight to Chen Cuihua.

Without a word, she raised the cleaver and brought it down hard.

Chen Cuihua’s neck was halfway severed, blood gushing out.

Zhang Yanhong finished the job with another swing, hacking the head clean off. Chen Cuihua was dead beyond question.

Ye Luo narrowed her eyes.

This was not the turn she had expected, but for now, she made no move to intervene.

Chen Cuihua was killed right before their eyes.

Yet Zhang Hua and Zhang Jintao still showed no fear, continuing to curse without pause.

With two blows each, Zhang Yanhong dispatched her entire family.

Then, gripping the bloodied knife, she turned toward Ye Luo.

Covered head to toe in blood, Zhang Yanhong looked utterly terrifying.

Ye Luo’s expression didn’t change. “I actually wanted to ask them a few questions.”

Zhang Yanhong looked at her, a complicated glint in her eyes. “I don’t know why you’ve come here. In any case, you need to leave this place at once.”

“I can’t. I promised your mother I’d attend the exorcism ritual,” Ye Luo replied.

A flicker of emotion crossed Zhang Yanhong’s face. “If you’re set on courting death, there’s nothing I can do.”

She picked up the cleaver and turned to leave.

Ye Luo glanced at the bodies on the floor, then at Zhang Yanhong, and asked, “Won’t they discover you killed them?”

“It doesn’t matter,” Zhang Yanhong answered numbly.

“Are you saying they’ll come back to life tomorrow?” Ye Luo suddenly asked.

Zhang Yanhong looked at her. “Maybe.”

Ye Luo raised an eyebrow.

How could ordinary humans come back to life?

Were the Zhang family not human?

And Zhang Yanhong herself—was she human?

Ye Luo smiled faintly. “There’s a village rule—no one is allowed out after seven in the evening, isn’t that right?”

Zhang Yanhong nodded. “It’s best not to go out.”

“It’s only six now. There’s still an hour. Why not take me for a walk around the village?” Ye Luo suggested.

Since Zhang Yanhong clearly had no intention of offering information, she would have to find clues herself.

Something was bound to happen at the exorcism ritual.

Before that, she needed to gather more information.

Zhang Yanhong thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright.”

She tossed the cleaver aside, not even bothering to change her blood-soaked clothes, and went to open the door.

Ye Luo’s eyes flickered as she followed her out.

They had barely walked any distance when they encountered a villager.

The man eyed the blood on Zhang Yanhong, then grinned. “Well, Yanhong, you killed your family again? You know, there’ll be consequences for you this time.”

Again…

Ye Luo glanced at Zhang Yanhong.

So, this girl killing her family was a regular occurrence?

Noticing Ye Luo’s look, Zhang Yanhong said, “It’s not often I manage to kill them. Most of the time, they’re the ones who kill me.”

The villager gave a strange smile. “Last time they killed you, they cooked your flesh into stew and shared it with the whole village. I have to say, it tasted pretty good.”

As he spoke, the villager deliberately licked his lips, casting a sidelong glance at Ye Luo.

Surely this girl must be frightened out of her wits by now.
