A glint flashed in Chen Liner’s eyes. “Could it be that you intend to help us, sir?”
Yang Zhan smiled lightly. “That depends on whether you cooperate.”
“How can I trust you?”
Yang Zhan produced a token engraved with a bright full moon hanging high.
Chen Liner glanced at it, frowning but said nothing.
“Let me tell you how I got this token,” Yang Zhan began. “I just seized it. The person who came was a young woman, number eighteen of the Xuan Ye Division. But I let her go. I instructed her to warn the spies lurking nearby not to attempt a prison break—it’s useless. The only way is to have your Fenglin Kingdom send envoys to negotiate.”
Chen Liner frowned. “Do you think your emperor would agree to let us go?”

Chen Liner looked at Yang Zhan and began to explain, “Lin Cang’s White Horse Temple—we only went to offer incense, yet we were captured.”
“Why come to the border’s White Horse Temple?”
“Because someone told us that Lin Cang’s White Horse Temple is the most sacred.”
“For whom are you praying?”
Chen Liner fell silent.
Yang Zhan raised an eyebrow. “A princess, a noble lady—who you are praying for is obvious, isn’t it? Why hide it?”
Chen Liner sighed. “Yes, we were praying for our Majesty.”
