After taking a shower, Lin Zhiwan felt much better. She glanced out the window and realized it had started snowing at some unknown moment. She made herself a cup of hot cocoa, wrapped herself in a blanket, and sat down on the balcony.

The snow outside grew heavier and heavier, with delicate flakes drifting slowly under the riverside streetlights before settling on the water’s surface. Everything before her looked like a gigantic crystal ball—dreamlike and surreal.

Watching the scene, Lin Zhiwan found herself increasingly fond of living alone. She only wondered when Fu Yanzhou’s side would finish handling the divorce formalities. Given his numerous assets, dividing the property would surely be complicated.

Actually, Lin Zhiwan was not worried about the division of assets. Although Fu Yanzhou held no feelings for her, he had always been generous financially. She just seldom used his money.

What truly concerned her now was her mother. With her mother’s temperament, if she found out about the divorce, she would never accept it easily. Lin Zhiwan decided to act first and report later.

A cold gust of wind, laden with snowflakes, blew past, making her shiver. Her body was too weak to stay on the balcony for long. As she was about to head back inside, she caught sight of a familiar figure down below.

It was… Song Jinhe?

The snow was heavy, and the building was tall, making it hard to see clearly. But then a silver car approached opposite her, and its headlights illuminated Song Jinhe’s figure distinctly. She was wearing that woolen long dress from earlier, standing in the snow with exquisite beauty.

Lin Zhiwan saw a man get out of the car and hurry over to Song Jinhe, draping his coat over her shoulders. That must be Song Jinhe’s ex-husband. The man stood against the light, his face obscured, but his tall and imposing figure was unmistakable.

He whispered something to Song Jinhe, then quickly pulled her inside the building. If she hadn’t known their relationship, Lin Zhiwan might have envied their love. But sadly, while they embraced lovingly, the man’s wife was likely still in the dark, caring for their children.

Lin Zhiwan stepped into the living room and closed the curtains with the remote—out of sight, out of mind.

Fu Yanzhou held Song Jinhe as they entered the elevator.

“You’re not feeling well, why were you waiting downstairs for me?”

Song Jinhe adjusted the coat around her shoulders, smiling gently but with a hint of worry in her voice.

“You said that Miss Lin is your wife and lives just downstairs. How could I stay at home with that on my mind? No wonder she seemed awkward earlier—she must have known my identity all along!” Fu Yanzhou frowned deeply in the elevator.

“That was my oversight. I’ll handle it,” he said, pressing the button for Lin Zhiwan’s floor.

Song Jinhe glanced at him. “Are you going there now? You don’t seem calm. Why not come to my place for a drink first? Once you’ve settled down, you can talk to her properly. I don’t want any misunderstandings because of me.”

The elevator reached Lin Zhiwan’s floor. Fu Yanzhou stepped out.

“No, you rest first.” The elevator doors slowly closed, and Song Jinhe could only watch him disappear from sight.

At that moment, Lin Zhiwan had just finished showering and was preparing to rest. Checking the time, it was nearly midnight. Who could be knocking at this hour?

Recently, she had read many cases of single women harmed at home. With her video doorbell broken and unable to see outside, she was even more reluctant to open the door.

Fu Yanzhou pressed the doorbell repeatedly but got no response.

He looked up at the door number again—this was definitely the right place. Naturally, he assumed Lin Zhiwan knew he was outside and was deliberately avoiding him.

Fu Yanzhou had little patience for her. Irritated, he knocked hard on the door.

Already frightened, Lin Zhiwan’s fear deepened at the loud banging. She immediately called the building’s property manager.

After a while, the noise outside quieted down. Lin Zhiwan guessed the property manager had arrived.

Fu Yanzhou, facing a uniformed man, wore a face as dark as a stormy sky.

“The person inside is my wife!” he declared.

The property manager looked the well-dressed man over, uncertain.

Perhaps it was all a misunderstanding?

“Sorry, could you call your wife? We’re just concerned about residents’ safety. Please understand.”

Fu Yanzhou reluctantly took out his phone and dialed Lin Zhiwan’s number, setting the speakerphone on with a stern expression.

The property manager sensed this man was no ordinary intruder. His aura was unmistakably authoritative.

He smiled politely, waiting for the call to connect and for the misunderstanding to clear.

But the next moment, a cold, mechanical voice came through the speaker:

“Sorry, the number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please check and try again.”

The air seemed to freeze.

Fu Yanzhou couldn’t believe it.

He checked the phone again—this was definitely Lin Zhiwan’s number.

She had blocked him!

For the first time in his life, Fu Yanzhou felt utterly embarrassed.

He cleared his throat twice, pocketed the phone, and told the property manager, “My wife and I are having some issues. Please call her and ask her to open the door.”

At first, the property manager thought the well-groomed man might be telling the truth. But the more he considered it, the less trustworthy the man seemed.

Still, to be safe, he called the resident to confirm.

Lin Zhiwan was right behind the door. The door’s soundproofing was excellent, so she couldn’t hear the conversation outside.

Just then, the property manager’s call came through.

“Miss Lin, a man outside claims to be your husband. Would you mind opening the door to clear up this misunderstanding?”

Hearing this, Lin Zhiwan became even more certain the man outside was dangerous.

He dared to call himself her husband?

Not to mention, Fu Yanzhou didn’t even know she lived here. Even if he did, there was no way he’d come knocking in the middle of the night during a snowstorm.

“I’m not married. I have no husband! Please get this man out of here and never let anyone into this complex again. How can you guarantee our safety otherwise?”

“Miss Lin, don’t worry. I’ll have him removed immediately. We will also strengthen security measures to ensure the safety of all residents.”

After hanging up, the property manager took out his walkie-talkie:

“16th floor, possible stalker. Send two people to assist.”

Veins throbbed on Fu Yanzhou’s temple as he cursed Lin Zhiwan silently a thousand times.

But his priority now was to avoid being taken to the police station.

A Fu Corporation CEO being escorted to the police in the dead of night—he could already imagine how the media would spin it.

Resigned, Fu Yanzhou called Song Jinhe for help.
