Chapter Four: Was It Truly a Death from Fear?
Seeing that He Bingbing had agreed, Wu Bin adjusted his posture on the stretcher and flashed a smile at the camera.
The crowd: "..."
At a time like this, you're still looking for the camera?
The netizens in the live stream were also amused.
"Is this guy acting? He's killing me."
"Bro, this is the live channel for 'Elite Campus Life.' Do you really think this is scripted?"
"Didn't you see the school leaders' faces turn white when he collapsed on the ground earlier?"
"No school would use something like this for publicity stunts unless they're tired of their jobs."
Xu Wenyao stepped forward to persuade him: "Student Wu Bin, I am a school official. Since your parents aren't here, it is my responsibility to stay by your side."
Upon hearing this, Wu Bin immediately clutched his chest, putting on an expression of extreme agony.
Xu Wenyao was so startled by the reaction that he promptly shut his mouth.
"Alright, alright, Ms. He, you should get in quickly. We’ll just follow along."
Fearing that any delay might jeopardize his treatment, the others had no choice but to let He Bingbing and her cameraman climb in to film him up close.
Seeing the camera, Wu Bin felt an immediate sense of relief. A status dashboard appeared in his mind:
[Host’s Current Reputation Points: 72,000]
[Invincibility Duration: 20 hours]
Gaining so many reputation points in such a short time was all thanks to He Bingbing’s filming! Therefore, in the days to come, Wu Bin absolutely could not be separated from the camera.
Soon, the ambulance sped out of the school, followed by a dozen black sedans. The traffic police on duty at the intersection were stunned at first, but then immediately swung onto their motorcycles and blared their sirens to clear a path for the ambulance.
Other drivers on the street pulled out their phones to capture the scene.
"With this kind of entourage, this is insane. Could there be some big shot in that ambulance?"
Inside the ambulance, Wu Bin hadn't even had a chance to say a few words to He Bingbing to spice up the broadcast before his head lolled to one side and he fainted again.
His collapse terrified the paramedics on board. They scrambled to hook him up to life-support equipment and even administered a shot of adrenaline. Fortunately, Wu Bin had only fainted; though his breathing was shallow, it was still there.
The doctor let out a sigh of relief and looked at He Bingbing. "Ms. He, do you know how he ended up like this?"
The doctor asked this to gather more information about Wu Bin, hoping to make a preliminary assessment and identify the cause of his condition quickly.
He Bingbing nodded. "I know. We happened to be filming him right when he fainted."
The doctor pressed, "Could you elaborate?"
He Bingbing thought for a moment before saying, "We were invited by Principal Xu to livestream and film student life. Before we arrived, the principal specifically emphasized that we must capture the vibrant, spirited side of the Agricultural University. But the moment we entered the boys' dormitory, we went straight to their room."
"The school's designated model dormitory?" the doctor asked.
"No," He Bingbing shook her head. "It was just because there was a smell of hot pot wafting out, so I went in."
Hearing this, both the doctor and the nurse fell silent. Are college students this bold nowadays? They dared to eat hot pot in their dorm on the day of a live-streamed interview?
"Could there have been something irritating in the hot pot that triggered his heart condition?" the nurse suggested.
He Bingbing shook her head in denial. "No, when we walked in, they had just prepared their dipping sauces; they hadn't even started eating yet."
The doctor was even more puzzled. "If it wasn't caused by eating, then it must have been some kind of external stimulus that caused an emotional surge, which in turn affected his heart. But what kind of stimulus could one get from eating hot pot in a dorm?"
He Bingbing seemed to remember something and suddenly spoke up: "Before Wu Bin collapsed, the counselor, Yang Kang, was reprimanding them. Counselor Yang felt that the four of them eating hot pot in the dorm violated school regulations, so he insisted on dealing with them severely. I remember Counselor Yang poking his finger hard into Wu Bin's chest three times and demanding he write a letter of self-reflection."
As soon as He Bingbing said this, the school officials watching the live stream broke into a cold sweat. They were all colleagues; they knew Yang Kang's temperament better than anyone. He was hot-tempered, rigid, and lacked the ability to be flexible. If Wu Bin's collapse was truly linked to Yang Kang, he would likely face criminal liability.
Seeing the doctor look skeptical, He Bingbing added, "We have the entire incident recorded on video."
The doctor frowned. "If it was just a reprimand, that shouldn't be enough to trigger a heart attack."
He Bingbing thought for a moment and continued, "A simple reprimand might not be, but Counselor Yang's voice was quite loud. Wu Bin asked him several times to lower his voice."
He Bingbing had the cameraman export the video, then pulled out her phone to show the doctor. In the footage, Yang Kang was furious, poking Wu Bin in the chest three times. Wu Bin asked him to speak more quietly, but Yang Kang ignored him and continued to shout. Suddenly, Wu Bin shuddered in fear, clutched his chest, and collapsed.
After watching the video, all the counselors fell silent. Xu Wenyao, meanwhile, wore a dark expression, lost in thought.
The live stream chat exploded:
"This guy is a real talent. He was literally scared to death by his counselor shouting?"
"So it turns out Zhang Fei shouting people to death at Changban Slope was real? I thought it was just a TV exaggeration."
"Adaptation isn't fabrication, and dramatization isn't nonsense; reality is often more dramatic than TV."
"Back when I was in school, counselors would just use their fists. Looking back, those counselors should thank me for not dying."
"The counselor didn't expect that a loud voice could scare someone to death. This isn't a college student; this is a 'living ancestor' (troublemaker)."
"College students these days are getting more and more fragile. One touch and they collapse, one scare and they die."
The doctor on the ambulance twitched his lips, feeling it was utterly absurd. How was he supposed to write the medical report? That the student developed a heart condition because the counselor was too loud? That’s ridiculous!
Just then, the unconscious Wu Bin opened his eyes and woke up again. The doctor quickly said with concern, "Student Wu Bin, your condition is very critical. Please don't move around."
Wu Bin gave the doctor a faint smile. "It's okay, doctor. I was just adjusting my pillow. You guys keep talking; don't mind me."
After saying this, Wu Bin made a heart gesture at the camera. Then, his head lolled to one side, and he fainted again.
Doctor: "..."
He Bingbing: "..."
Netizens: "..."
"This guy... he's got something special."
"Why do I feel like he has an attitude of indifference toward life and death?"
"Could it be that he's been sickly since childhood and is just used to it?"
"He is so strong. He was still smiling at us just now! How optimistic must he be to smile through such pain?"
"Such a good kid, we absolutely cannot let him die like this. Everyone, share and spread this so more people pay attention to him!"
