Chapter 24: Arrogance and Imperiousness
Wang Youwei was absolutely right. If the old lady had treated both of her sons equally, perhaps Zhao Dajun’s arrogant and domineering personality would never have been forged. And if Zhao Dajun were not so arrogant and domineering, today’s incident would never have occurred. Zheng Qiuhua looked equally vacant, unable to accept the fact that Zhao Dajun had been expelled from the mountain patrol team.
"Heh, and who might you be?" Dugu Hong showed no signs of nervousness. Instead, he asked back with a faint smile. At a time like this, he could not afford to show weakness. However, knowing Qin Leng’s personality, he would certainly not leave An Yutong to fend for herself, which put Muyuchi’s mind at ease.
The Fear Demon King and the Thunder God were surrounding and attacking Jack and Rose. Jack stood still, deep in thought, searching for a way to break the formation. Rose brandished her hammer, spraying flames to block the enemy’s onslaught. It was no wonder the King of Ten Thousand Fists remained undefeated; with such formations and such offensive power, who could withstand a war of attrition? Being trapped and worn down within the formation was a distinct possibility.
"Humph, how can they even be compared? How old is the Empress, and how old is she?" the imperial concubine remarked dismissively.
Everyone looked in the direction he pointed, where they saw an attendant escorting Li Shuci and her two maids to a secluded spot.
"Alright, let's go. It’s about time," An Yutong nodded. She prepared to head out; the guests were arriving one after another, and they needed to go and welcome them.
The bearded man was nearly driven mad. This was blatant contempt. They simply did not take him seriously. Or rather, in the eyes of this young man, his entire group was of no consequence at all.
"Very well, if you truly wish to pay your respects, then do so." Jian Nantian no longer refused, sitting upright to receive Mu Sheng’s bow.
Though he had survived, Liu Fa was deeply depressed. Of the twenty thousand soldiers who had followed him on the campaign, only one or two in ten remained. Fewer than three thousand had made it back to Song territory alive, and the majority of the auxiliary troops and laborers had perished. This was a loss Liu Fa had never experienced in his decades of military service.
These were the words of Li Shuci, and upon hearing them, Helian Tao laughed, his heart filled with a renewed sense of longing and excitement.
Betrothing a girl to him early was essentially an investment. If he passed the imperial examinations, they would all prosper together. But if he failed, it was a loss.
"What pastries? I’m not eating. Tell her to eat them herself!" Gu Tiancheng said coldly. He was already feeling irritable; he had no mood to deal with Xia Zhiqing.
Empress Li traveled cautiously, keeping out of sight until she reached the usual residence of Daoist Yin Xu, heading straight for the back courtyard.
After being jolted awake, Li Tian quickly stood up, grabbing Liu Ya Li and pulling her into the corner of the stone gate, using a shield to deflect the incoming arrows.
After the meal, Wen Ming asked Tong Xiaer what her plans were for the day. If she had nothing else on, he asked her to accompany him to the nursing home to help him with something.
Meeting is a matter of fate; if you can’t get along, then just part ways. She had no idea what had gotten into this god of wealth, insisting on meeting her.
Upstairs, Wu Xinxin was certain that her entire year had been a waste, and the suffocating feeling of having nowhere to vent her frustration was unbearable.
It could even be said that before the founding emperor attacked Nanzhou, no one knew that the Zen sect possessed fifth-level cultivators... However, before the current dynasty, various cultivation traditions rarely made appearances.
He had planned to leave immediately, but to wait for Wang Hui, Li Tian sat down and began to sip his tea at a leisurely pace.
Mo Yao felt it was impossible; after all, how long had they even known each other? He must be doing this purely out of sympathy.
Sometimes, Jiang Baifeng would think carefully about how she had jumped into the water and feigned drowning to escape execution; it felt as if someone had intentionally let her live.
"Let’s focus on the house instead," Zhao Guangran suggested, indicating that considering the important matters was more essential.
Upon hearing the voice, Gong Tao’s first reaction was that it sounded familiar, though he couldn't place it. When he turned his head and saw who it was, he cursed his luck. Why had he run into him?
"Aunt, were you thinking of something sad yesterday?" Kangkang asked, looking at Gong Ruini with great sincerity.
Anyone who caused trouble was immediately suppressed, even if it required force, and Yodora had clearly walked straight into the line of fire. The man in black walked over without hesitation; if Yodora had acted even slightly more aggressively, he would certainly have been treated with great cruelty.
Entering and exiting the Demon-Locking Tower was indeed no difficult task for a Shushan disciple. Thus, even if he didn't make it out in the end, he wouldn't have lost much.
Jiang Ming looked at Zhao Shenping with an expression of astonishment, though he subconsciously blurted out what he had just been thinking.
Hearing Jia Jiayu’s very peaceful, perhaps even slightly ingratiating tone, Qi Qi felt a bit unaccustomed to it, though Su Jie did not seem to mind.
The true essence within Zhuang Yan’s body circulated rapidly, and the Heavenly Bridge acupoint naturally produced a trace of cooling energy that swirled through his mind.
The Great Fierce Corpse lunged at Cao Wuhao once more. Cao Wuhao dodged the grasp and delivered a full-force kick, never expecting the corpse’s body to be as hard as steel. The kick not only failed to send the corpse flying but instead caused Cao Wuhao to be bounced backward.
"Feng’er, are you admitting that you remember your father?" Luo Quanhai’s emotions were deeply complex. He knew he owed his wife and son too much, and he had hoped to find him, yet now that he had, he didn't know how to face his son.
Admittedly, Vice Director Wang had not intentionally leaked any information to him, nor had he provided any direct help, but he had at least remained fair and impartial. If Director Peng had still been there, Lin Yuming might not have been chosen.
"We... we’ll be fine. After all, the Su family still needs to consider the Fourth Master’s reputation," Old Man Su paused, then said with uncertainty.
The next thing Meng Ling had to do was run; "running" was a necessity. Since he intended to run, he couldn't afford to walk slowly with measured steps.
Xuanxuan hurriedly took the wine glass, feeling as though it might be the heaviest glass she had ever held in her life.
Yu Shun was stunned by these words and could not speak for a long time. Xuanxuan did not force him, leaving the room alone to let him think it over.
In that moment of soulful eye contact, devoid of words, Yu Kun suddenly understood his own heart. Or perhaps... he didn't quite understand, yet gradually, he felt he did.
"Second brother, it’s been over a year. The eldest hasn't woken up. Could it be that she really has..." This was a man’s voice, pleasant and refined.
