Chapter 6: How Should I Thank Him?
She reached out to pull the front passenger door.
It didn’t budge.
Startled, she had no choice but to try the rear door.
“Long time no see!” Wei Yang forced a smile, realizing she couldn’t avoid him and decided to face him head-on.
A playful curve formed at Shen Cenzhi’s lips. “It has been quite a while.”
After a pause, he smirked faintly. “Miss Wei, who’s never soiled her hands with honest work, suddenly needs to find a job?”
Wei Yang was speechless.
He was doing it on purpose!
He couldn’t possibly be unaware that her father had gone bankrupt, leaving only her and Wei Ting, who lay unconscious in a hospital bed.
Suppressing the bitterness inside, she smiled casually, her expression calm. “I’m no longer a ‘Miss Wei’.”
After a moment, she added gratefully, “Mr. Shen, thank you for hiring me despite everything.”
Shen Cenzhi sneered. “Do you know why I hired you?”
Wei Yang blinked, surprised, and looked at him in confusion before lowering her eyes and shaking her head doubtfully. “I don’t know.”
He stared at her for a few seconds, revealing nothing, and said, “Miss Wei, since you’ve decided to be my secretary, you must keep your phone on twenty-four hours a day and be available at a moment’s notice.”
Startled, her dark lashes fluttered slightly, and she unconsciously clenched her fingers.
She wanted to turn and walk away without looking back, but her feet felt like they were weighed down with lead, unable to move.
The wind suddenly picked up, scattering a few withered leaves from the branches, while ripples spread across a nearby puddle.
Pulling her coat tighter around her, she felt the lingering chill of early spring in the city.
Forcing a faint smile, she looked earnestly at the man. “Mr. Shen, my brother is still bedridden. I need the money, so rest assured, as long as the salary is right, I can meet all your demands.”
Shen Cenzhi raised an eyebrow. “In that case, welcome officially to S Group, Miss Wei.”
Wei Yang smiled lightly. “Thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Shen.”
“That’s it?”
She blinked in surprise, suspicion flashing in her eyes.
Shen Cenzhi smiled slowly, appraising her carelessly. “I’m saying, is that really how you plan to thank me?”
Meeting the man’s dark, mysterious eyes, Wei Yang’s heart suddenly tightened, an inexplicable nervousness rising within her.
She quickly averted her gaze, narrowly missing the faintest smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Biting her lip and feigning composure, she asked, “Then, how would you like me to thank you?”
Shen Cenzhi’s eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze shimmering like rippling lake water.
“Ah—”
A sudden brake jolted Wei Yang forward uncontrollably.
The anticipated pain never came; instead, a scent of citrus mingled with a faint woody aroma brushed past her nostrils.
Her mind went blank for a moment, her pupils visibly dilating as memories from six years ago flooded her thoughts.
He had once saved him kindly, and she had deliberately slandered him, causing him to be scorned by everyone…
Before Wei Yang could push away the man shielding her, she heard him grunt softly, followed by the driver’s anxious voice: “Sorry, Mr. Shen. A child suddenly dashed out from the roadside; I had no choice but to brake abruptly…”
“Mhm,” Shen Cenzhi replied.
Seeing that his boss did not scold him, Li Cheng quietly exhaled in relief.
Wei Yang regained her senses and instinctively tried to push away Shen Cenzhi’s protective hold.
He met her gaze, his eyes deep and shadowed.
