Chapter 7: An Unexpected Rainstorm

Her heart tightened. Just as she was about to speak, Shen Cenzhi let out a soft, mocking scoff and released her without a trace of hesitation.

Wei Yang was slightly startled. Hurriedly suppressing the panic in her heart, she bit her lip and said, "Thank you for just now." She paused, as if the words were difficult to utter.

Shen Cenzhi acted as though nothing had happened, responding lazily with a simple, "Hmm."

Wei Yang: "?"

She pressed her lips together, hesitated for a moment, and then braced herself to say, "Mr. Shen, if there is nothing else, I will get out of the car now. Please drop me off up ahead."

Li Cheng did not dare to make a sound, stealing a glance in the rearview mirror. Shen Cenzhi did not make things difficult for her and signaled for Li Cheng to pull over.

As soon as the car came to a stop at the side of the road, Wei Yang pushed the door open and stepped out, heading straight for the bus stop. Her back was held perfectly straight.

Shen Cenzhi narrowed his eyes, his gaze deepening as he gestured for Li Cheng to drive on. Watching the black Maybach merge into the traffic, Wei Yang let out a silent sigh of relief, her expression softening.

Before long, the bus arrived. Wei Yang joined the crowd and boarded, but she didn't head home. Instead, she planned to visit Wei Ting at the nursing home.

Three years ago, the Wei family went bankrupt, falling from the clouds to the very bottom in a single night. Her father, unable to bear the blow, suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. Due to the delay in emergency care, he missed the optimal window for treatment and passed away. When Wei Ting rushed to the hospital to see their father, he was involved in a collision with a dump truck due to excessive speed, leaving him in a vegetative state. Their mother, unable to cope with this series of tragedies, fell into a state of mental instability and eventually took her own life while Wei Yang was out running errands.

Wei Yang stayed at the nursing home until after four in the afternoon before leisurely heading back to the city. Unfortunately, the bus broke down halfway there. There had only been a handful of passengers to begin with, so now that the vehicle was incapacitated, everyone had to find their own way.

As the sky grew dim, the air became heavy with the oppressive feeling of an impending storm. Wei Yang frowned slightly, wrapped her trench coat tighter around herself, and stood quietly by the roadside to wait for another ride. The city was still a long way off, and since this had been the last bus, she would have to hail a taxi.

"Yanli, isn't that Ms. Wei?"

In a black Hennessey sports car, Zhao Wenqian, with her sharp eyes, spotted Wei Yang waiting by the road from quite a distance away.

Xie Yanli’s gaze darkened slightly, and he replied calmly, "Yes, it seems to be her."

"She looks like she's waiting for a ride, and it looks like it's about to rain. Should we offer her a lift?" Zhao Wenqian looked at the man beside her, her eyes filled with deep adoration and contentment.

"All right."

He said nothing more, responding with just the one word, yet his tone was laced with profound indulgence. Xie Yanli slowed the car down and made a U-turn to head back.

The vehicle pulled up slowly in front of Wei Yang. Zhao Wenqian hurriedly rolled down the window and greeted her with a smile, "Ms. Wei, are you heading back to the city? We can give you a lift."

Wei Yang recognized the car—it was Xie Yanli's. Then, she saw a side profile she knew all too well. Her heart tightened, and her instinct was to refuse.

The next second, large, heavy raindrops began to fall without warning, catching everyone off guard. Wei Yang hesitated for a moment before quickly getting into the car. No matter how reluctant she was to accept this kindness, she did not want to gamble with her health. If she were to get caught in a downpour in this weather, she would surely fall ill, and she likely wouldn't be able to report to the S Group the following day.
