For Olya, this was truly a choice that required no deliberation.

If she had been the kind of naive person who stubbornly insisted on procedural justice while ignoring objective facts, she would never have survived until now.

She agreed immediately: "You will see what you want to see in the local most influential afternoon paper today."

Milton took out his camera, leaned back against the backrest, and said in a calm tone, "I hope we have another chance to cooperate."

This sentence sounded entirely different to someone who was cooperating sincerely compared to someone with ulterior motives.

"Rest assured."

Olya picked up the camera, turned around and walked a couple of steps, then suddenly turned back, hesitating as she spoke: "I always have a feeling that you are different from the others... In my view, whether it's Raul from the Fankang Gang or Station Master Varta, they are actually quite low-level. But you and them—you are different from everyone else here."

Milton raised a hand toward the door: "I'll take that as a compliment."

"Have a good evening."

After Olya hurriedly left the black market and got into her beat-up little car to drive away, Milton finally called Luz and Veronica over.

"Follow me, get in the car."

Luz pulled open the front passenger door of the Defender: "Where are we going next? Are there still loose ends that haven't been cleaned up?"

"Carlos gave up a few locations where he stashed cash. Let's sweep them clean first. Tonight's news will break immediately, and if we don't act fast, we'll just be handing the profits to someone else. He has a manor not far outside the town where he keeps several women. There shouldn't be a shortage of valuables like cash and jewelry there."

During the interrogation, Carlos had even given up his women, which, in his view, were also very valuable "items."

As inspectors, both Luz and Veronica were startled: "Carlos?"

Milton calmly announced, "He's already dead."

"Dead..."

Luz struggled to digest this piece of news.

In a single night... no, in just over two hours, while many people were still fast asleep, this trusted confidant of Varta had been taken out right inside the checkpoint?

Veronica bluntly blurted out: "Luz, quietly tell me the type of woman the boss likes, and I can play the part. Does he like nurses or something?"

"Could you at least keep your voice down?!"

"..."

In the dead of night, the car drove all the way to the outskirts of the town and arrived near the manor.

Along the road, hardly any lights could be seen in the town, yet this remote manor was brightly lit, with several armed guards standing watch at the entrance.

However, upon seeing the model of the approaching vehicle, those armed security guards simply scattered in an instant, not even daring to spare it an extra glance.

There was only one Defender in the entire town, and everyone knew it belonged to Milton.

The guards were terrified that if they ran a second too slowly, this crazy tax officer would blow them straight up into the sky.

Thus, Milton took over the manor even more smoothly than anticipated, surrounding the three-story luxury building in no time at all.

As expected of a place used to keep women, no expense was spared on the materials.

The intrusion by the three of them followed standard operating procedures almost to the letter—avoiding entering rooms through the main door whenever possible, using flashbangs instead of slicing the corners blindly, and in less than three minutes, the entire building had been thoroughly cleared.

Apart from three young, beautiful women wearing flimsy nightgowns, everyone else in the house had long since fled without a trace.

They might not have received the news of Carlos's death, but since Milton dared to show up, running away first was definitely the right move.

Fortunately, not everyone had run away!

Without someone to lead the way, wanting to thoroughly search this house and find all the hidden safes tucked away in unknown locations would have been impossible to accomplish quickly—and who knew if Carlos had left behind a contingency plan.

Milton glanced at the three women and spoke up: "Tell me where the safe is. I've already asked Carlos, and you'd better weigh your words carefully before lying."

The woman right in the middle wore a miserable and pitiful expression, her voice laced with tears: "It's in the master bedroom, I can take you there... Officer, can you spare us? We're victims too; you know no one dared to disobey them."

As she spoke, her tears fell continuously, almost soaking through the sheer white nightgown that concealed nothing.

Milton's expression did not waver in the slightest as he said coldly, "Lead the way. Take us there, and you will open the safe yourselves. Remember, this is the price for your lives."

If the roles were reversed, Milton would definitely have planted a booby trap in the safe to take down whoever he could; putting himself in their shoes, he had to assume the enemy would do the same.

"No problem, we can give you everything." The woman in the middle trembled as she climbed to her feet, pleading desperately once more, "It's just that now that Carlos is dead, none of us can survive. Can you take us with you? We can do anything."

Good looks combined with anything else were an unbeatable hand—except when played alone. Once a pillar of support like Carlos collapsed, it was nothing short of a catastrophe for them.

With their pitiful demeanor and desperate, desolate tone, they were truly heart-wrenching, and both Luz and Veronica wore expressions of lingering sympathy.

They were indeed in a very miserable plight.

Yet Milton's expression remained entirely unshaken: "Before you talk conditions, show some sincerity."

The woman fell silent for a moment, a trace of sorrow flashing through her eyes.

"Follow me, I'll take you."

Huddling together, the three women crowded their way into the master bedroom's walk-in closet, pulled open the wardrobe doors, and pushed aside the clothes—a massive safe was indeed hidden in the secret compartment.

However, the right hand of the woman in the middle was quietly reaching toward the drawer below.

She seemed to think that with the other two shielding her and the safe diverting their attention, such a small movement would go unnoticed.

Bang, bang, bang!

The Type 81 rifle spat tongues of fire, and the sheer white gauze worn by the women was instantly soaked in bright crimson. They only managed to pull the drawer open just a fraction before collapsing to the floor.

Milton kicked away a corpse, glanced into the drawer, and saw a miniature ladies' pistol.

Luz was now broken out in a cold sweat: "Boss, h-how did you figure it out? Were you prepared for this all along?"

"First, they weren't executed or imprisoned, which means they were treated as 'one of us.' Think about Veronica's experience," Milton explained as he punched in the password given by Carlos. "Second, this woman is smart—smart enough to instantly deduce that Carlos was already dead."

"She was just playing the innocent! She was a willing accomplice of Carlos and an accessory to countless atrocities." Milton swept his gaze over the luxurious bedroom. "You two poor ghosts actually sympathize with people living in a mansion? Are your brains broken?"

Veronica felt a bit ashamed, but was filled even more with awe: "...I—I was just subconsciously projecting myself onto them and got blinded. Boss, aren't you being a bit too rational and calm?"

Milton waved a hand: "All right, all right. Do a quick sweep and see how much loot we can pull off this time."
