Chapter 19: Once Unfaithful, Forever Unforgiven
“Yu Zi, since you need a marriage partner, why can’t you choose me?”
Xie Yuhuai was deeply resentful. Being broken up with so inexplicably back then left him baffled beyond reason.
Finally reunited, yet Yu Zi still insisted he was a scoundrel.
What had he done wrong?
“Yu Zi, even if it kills me, I want to die with clarity, understand?”
His eyes were filled with confusion as he looked at Yu Zi, as if he were only seeking an answer.
But Yu Zi merely sneered. The memory of his betrayal and constant concealment made her heart ache fiercely.
“Enough, Xie Yuhuai. At a time like this, you’re still putting on an act?”
“I’m telling you, even if every man in the world were dead, I wouldn’t choose you. To me, you are the greatest mistake of my life.”
“Meeting you, having been with you—that is the biggest stain on my life. Thanks for what happened today. If there’s a chance in the future, I’ll repay the favor. But if you want to threaten me into being with you, I advise you to give up that hope.”
Once unfaithful, never trusted again.
Those words were harsh, indeed.
At the very least, after hearing them, Xie Yuhuai’s hand clenched into a fist by his side.
His gaze suddenly sharpened, fixed intently on Yu Zi.
“So you didn’t break up with me for no reason back then, right? You think I betrayed you?”
Xie Yuhuai ventured cautiously.
From the moment they met, Yu Zi had always branded him as a scoundrel.
Could there be more to what happened all those years ago?
Yu Zi didn’t respond immediately. After a pause, she spoke with biting sarcasm.
“Xie Yuhuai, I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but if you think you can play the virtuous queen, I suggest you give up. Since you chose to be with someone else back then, don’t come looking for me. If people mistake me for the other woman, that would be... unpleasant.”
“Besides, you should know me best—I despise homewreckers more than anyone.”
“Alright, I’m going to rest now. It’s already late, so I won’t see you off.”
After venting, Yu Zi bluntly dismissed him.
Xie Yuhuai wanted to say more, but seeing her clearly exhausted expression, he gave up.
“Fine, I’ll leave today. But Yu Zi, I just want to tell you that there was a misunderstanding back then. The only woman in my life has always been you.”
“I will find out exactly what happened all those years ago myself. But I hope you know this: when it comes to choosing a husband, it has to be me.”
“We’ll see about that.”
Yu Zi didn’t waste words and took up his challenge.
Then she turned and walked away, leaving Xie Yuhuai with only her back.
Only when her figure disappeared from sight did Xie Yuhuai leave the Yu family estate.
He had to uncover what had truly happened back then.
……
“Sorry, Miss Yu, I don’t think we’re a good match. You should look elsewhere.”
As the man’s words fell, he hurriedly left the café.
Yu Zi sighed deeply, a pang of disappointment settling in her heart.
She picked up the coffee on the table and took a gentle sip.
Since that unpleasant fallout with Xie Yuhuai, she had been searching everywhere for a marriage partner.
But even those who had once seemed promising now found all sorts of excuses to back out upon a second meeting.
Obviously, it was all sabotage orchestrated by Xie Yuhuai behind the scenes.
“This is utterly outrageous!”
Yu Zi slammed the coffee cup onto the table, stood up, and prepared to confront Xie Yuhuai.
Just then, her phone rang.
