Chapter 30: Do Not Force Me to Hate You
"Let go. I'm going to the hospital."
Yu Zi frowned, struggling to break free.
Xie Yuhuai gritted his teeth, but ultimately pulled her into his embrace, whispering a seductive lure into her ear. "Yuyu, I am the perfect antidote right here. Why suffer like this? I am willing to be your remedy."
"I am not willing. Move away."
Yu Zi’s stance was equally firm. Despite being restrained by Xie Yuhuai, she resisted with all her might. Already under the influence of the drug and now held tightly in his arms, her body turned limp against her will, and her face flushed with a crimson heat.
Her words were meant to be a rejection, but under the intoxicating effects of the drug, they sounded more like the coy, flirtatious protest of a woman playing hard to get.
"I won't let go. Yuyu, I don't want to see you suffer. It’s not as if we haven't done this before!"
At these words, the memory of the moment she witnessed Xie Yuhuai’s betrayal years ago flashed through her mind, momentarily suppressing the burning heat within her.
A wave of fury surged inside her. Her eyes turned bloodshot as she glared directly at him, grinding her teeth. "Xie Yuhuai, what right do you have to bring up the past? You are nothing but a cheating scumbag—how can you appear before me as if nothing happened?"
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes. She summoned every ounce of her strength to push him away. "Get lost! Even if I die here today, I don't need your help."
Hearing this, Xie Yuhuai felt a surge of grievance. It was she who had broken up with him, after all. For so many years, he had been searching for her, his heart belonging to her alone. Why did she insist on calling it a betrayal?
"Yu Zi, I didn't! From beginning to end, you were the only one I ever loved. Whether you believe it or not, I have never been with anyone else."
"I truly loved you. When you disappeared after faking your own death, I thought you were gone. Do you have any idea how much I blamed myself, wondering why I wasn't by your side when you needed me most?"
"We finally reunited, and I was so grateful to heaven for bringing you back to me. You keep calling me a scumbag, but even if I am to die, at least let me die knowing the truth! What exactly did I betray you with?"
"I wanted nothing more than to grow old by your side... Yu Zi, how could you be so cruel? How could you abandon me so heartlessly?"
As he spoke, Xie Yuhuai’s eyes also turned red, and tears spilled down his cheeks.
This display momentarily made Yu Zi doubt her own judgment, but the memory of the news she had received years ago hardened her heart once more. Xie Yuhuai was a master of deception; she could not allow herself to be fooled by him again.
"Enough, Xie Yuhuai. Say whatever you want. I am going to the hospital now."
Xie Yuhuai, still desperate to make one last effort, stepped toward her and grabbed her hand. Just as he was about to plead his case again, Yu Zi’s voice cut through the air.
"Xie Yuhuai, if you wish to force me, as a woman—and a drugged one at that—I naturally cannot do much to stop you. But do not force me to hate you."
At these words, Xie Yuhuai froze in place, staring blankly into her eyes, which were filled with intense, icy loathing. In that moment, he felt his heart shatter once again.
Watching Yu Zi head toward the door, he followed her once more, saying nothing.
Yu Zi had not expected that even after such harsh words, he would still refuse to give up. A look of profound disappointment flashed in her eyes before she let out a bleak, miserable laugh.
"Xie Yuhuai, I suppose I overestimated you. You truly are a piece of trash."
