Chapter 10: The Little Enchantress Makes Her Move
Opportunity has arrived...
Yao Yanyan’s eyes brightened, her excited expression like that of a hunter who has just spotted her prey.
But she quickly concealed her emotions, lowering her voice to ask Qin Luo beside her, “Hey, do you really like me? Do you want to chase me?”
Qin Luo glanced at her. Having gauged Yao Yanyan’s level, he didn’t need a mind-reading device to guess that she wasn’t thinking anything good.
So, just like their first encounter, he replied with a question: “What if I do?”
Yao Yanyan blinked and said, “Then your approach right now is all wrong. How can you chase a girl like that? Where’s the enthusiasm you had when you were after Xu Ke?”
Qin Luo thought for a moment and asked, “You mean, you want me to make soup or set up a sea of roses for you?”
Yao Yanyan waved her hand dismissively. “Forget those formalities; I’m not interested.”
Qin Luo pondered, “So, dinner, shopping, watching movies... But unfortunately, Xu Ke and I never did those things. She never agreed.”
“She never agreed doesn’t mean I wouldn’t.”
After saying this, Yao Yanyan suddenly put on a cute smile and winked at Qin Luo.
To be fair, with her charm, this gesture could be quite devastating to a man.
If Qin Luo were just a novice, he might have been instantly captivated by this living embodiment of temptation.
But sadly, he was a man who had once been a sycophant. Even though he hadn’t had a proper relationship yet, he wasn’t someone easily won over.
So, he was not swayed by Yao Yanyan’s allure. Instead, with a slightly strategic tone, he asked, “So you mean you want to go eat, shop, and watch movies with me?”
“I don’t want that at all. But if you want, I can give you a chance.”
Yao Yanyan didn’t take the bait, casually tossing the question back to Qin Luo.
Qin Luo asked, “How so?”
Yao Yanyan grinned mischievously. “It’s simple. You sing a song up there, and if I think it sounds good afterward, I’ll agree to date you.”
She had made her move—this little vixen seized the opportunity and struck hard.
Qin Luo didn’t need to guess to know she wanted to use this obvious ploy to make him look bad. He furrowed his brow slightly, silent for a moment as if lost in thought, looking somewhat troubled.
Seeing this, Yao Yanyan revealed a self-mocking smile and said softly, “I knew it. Yesterday you said you liked me and wanted me to be your girlfriend, but that was all lies. You didn’t even mind getting punished for Xu Ke, but here, you won’t even sing a song for me…”
When Yao Yanyan smiled, she exuded irresistible charm; when she looked pitiful, there was a touch of endearing vulnerability that made one feel sympathetic.
“You really are a natural-born actress,” Qin Luo thought to himself. He didn’t need a mind-reading device to tell she was pretending, but it didn’t matter. This predictable game’s outcome had been sealed the moment she proposed it.
“Alright, I’ll agree, but the condition has to change. It can’t be based on your judgment alone. Otherwise, no matter how well I sing, if you don’t want to, you can just say I’m bad. Let’s use the whole class as the standard. If more than half of them applaud, I win.”
Qin Luo appeared reluctant but was actually turning the tables, changing the rules to feign weakness, making Yao Yanyan believe she was sure to win.
She knows how to use an open strategy; don’t tell me I don’t.
---
Yao Yanyan smiled immediately and agreed without hesitation, “Fine, it’s settled then.”
That scoundrel, with that stubborn face, I bet he’s trembling inside. Let’s see how you embarrass yourself!
She was already confident of victory but also grew curious about Qin Luo.
Because in their recent exchanges, she noticed Qin Luo had something going on. His way of speaking gave her a strange sense of familiarity, vaguely reminding her of how she toyed with other men.
That tactic of answering questions with questions, always trying to dominate the conversation—that’s just like her.
Yao Yanyan considered herself a heartbreaker, so someone like her must be a scoundrel too, right?
Could Qin Luo be a scoundrel?
The thought flashed through her mind but was quickly dismissed.
Laughable. Judging by how he fawned over Xu Ke before, if he were a scoundrel, there wouldn’t be a single decent man left in the world.
Maybe I’m overthinking it. After all, no matter what, this scoundrel is still in my hands, forced to accept my challenge.
Hmph, let’s see how you make a fool of yourself.
Yao Yanyan wore a victorious smile, while Qin Luo shared a knowing grin with her.
Two schemers sitting together, their smiles gave off a conspiratorial vibe…
“Click!”
A crisp electronic sound suddenly rang out. Both were blinded briefly by the flash. Qin Luo instinctively grabbed his phone, while Yao Yanyan pulled out her compact mirror, glaring sharply at the source of the flash.
Not far ahead, a female classmate holding a phone shrank back and timidly said, “I… my hobby is photography. I saw you two looked good together and couldn’t resist taking a picture. I… I’ll delete it now…”
After saying this, she glanced nostalgically at the freshly taken photo on her screen, regretting that she had forgotten to turn off the flash and silent mode.
Qin Luo silently put down his phone and asked, “Are you going to post it on the forum?”
“No! Absolutely not!”
“No worries. Even if you want to post it, I won’t stop you. Just remember to send me a copy later; I want to see how good we look together.”
“Huh?”
The girl froze on the spot. Yao Yanyan glanced at Qin Luo and smiled, telling the girl, “Send me one too.”
“Oh… okay.”
The girl looked flustered but decisively opened the forum to upload the photo, then deleted it from her album before saving it from the forum. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief.
Well, I found the picture online, so it’s not really a candid shot!
This sudden little incident stirred the previously quiet classroom once again. The teacher pressed both hands down to calm the room, then looked at Qin Luo with a helpless expression.
“That student, remember to mute your phone during class from now on... And Qin Luo, I don’t mind you auditing the class, but please don’t cause trouble, alright?”
“Sorry, teacher, I was wrong,” Qin Luo admitted promptly.
---
“That apology doesn’t sound sincere,” the teacher said after a moment, then suddenly smiled. “How about this—you come up and sing something for everyone?”
“Uh… isn’t that a bit presumptuous?”
Qin Luo hesitated, glancing repeatedly at Yao Yanyan, practically wearing “guilty” on his face.
Yao Yanyan noticed this, expressionless but inwardly laughing—this scoundrel, even heaven won’t spare you. Just go up there and embarrass yourself!
“It’s fine. Be as presumptuous as you want.”
“Alright, then.”
Qin Luo braced himself and walked up to the podium, taking the guitar from the teacher.
“I only know a little. If it’s not good, please don’t laugh.”
The teacher chuckled, “No problem, sing away. We’re all professionally trained here, so generally, no one laughs.”
Unless your wife is giving birth?
Qin Luo glanced at the teacher, then stood aside holding the guitar.
A lively classmate asked, “What song will you sing? Do you want me to help with accompaniment on my phone?”
Qin Luo gave a polite smile, “No need. The song I’m going to sing doesn’t have an accompaniment online.”
This revelation surprised everyone.
In today’s internet age, what song isn’t available online?
Unless it’s an unreleased original!
Could it be that he’s doing an original?
At that thought, many people chuckled, giving Qin Luo a teasing look. Yao Yanyan even covered her mouth, afraid she’d laugh aloud.
Someone who barely dared to go on stage now claims to sing an original?
If you really had the talent, you should have used it to chase Xu Ke!
Everyone shared the same thought. Even the teacher couldn’t help smiling but didn’t discourage him. Instead, he encouraged, “Good, then let’s enjoy Qin Luo’s original song... What’s it called?”
Qin Luo softly said, “You Are the April of This World.”
You Are the April of This World… many murmured the title, feeling its poetic and pure beauty.
Before they could savor it further, a light, cheerful melody began to fill their ears.
