Chapter 13: No Woman Could Be That Foolish

Watching Xu Ke’s somewhat unguarded reaction, the female classmate’s expression showed a hint of surprise. She had anticipated that this matter would cause Xu Ke some emotional disturbance, which was why she had deliberately come to mock her. Yet Xu Ke’s response now was somewhat unexpected. Under her gaze, the once aloof figure praised by many students as an untouchable beauty gradually seemed to crumble. Even that face, which had long been the object of her envy, now revealed a pallor unlike its usual cool composure; the voice that called out her roommate’s name through gritted teeth carried a trace of hatred. For some reason, seeing Xu Ke like this, the girl suddenly felt that bullying her was no longer so satisfying. Frowning, she was about to retort when Xu Ke suddenly stood up silently, clutching her phone, and coldly said to block her way, “Get lost.” The girl raised an eyebrow, ready to reply sharply, but Xu Ke stepped forward, forcibly shoving her aside with her shoulder, and then hurried away. She did not run, but her steps were hurried and disordered. Watching this, the girl ultimately held back her insults and shrugged in frustration.
Passing through the teaching building and across the campus, under the varied gazes of the people around, Xu Ke hurried back to the girls’ dormitory without pause.
“Bang!”
Room 606 was flung open roughly, the door thudding heavily. Inside, only Chu Sijin, who had no classes that morning, was there, lying in bed watching a show and snacking. The sudden noise startled her so much that the bag of snacks in her hand fell, spilling the contents all over the floor. Chu Sijin’s heart ached at the waste; she instinctively wanted to complain, but upon seeing the fierce, grim expression on Xu Ke’s face, she quietly shrank back, not daring to say a word, like a little white rabbit suddenly confronted by a big gray wolf.
Xu Ke’s cold gaze swept across every corner of the dorm room before finally settling on Chu Sijin. Her voice was icy as she asked, “Where is Yao Yanyan?” Chu Sijin weakly replied, “I... I don’t know... I just woke up a little while ago. I haven’t seen her...” Xu Ke paid no further attention to her and instead took out her phone to call Yao Yanyan.
The call connected quickly, and Yao Yanyan’s cheerful laughter came through.
“Xu Ke? What’s up?”
“Where are you?”
“Out having fun.”
“With whom?”
“That’s none of your business...”
Hearing the faint male voice on the other end, a sudden, nameless rage surged within Xu Ke. Her chest heaved painfully, and her normally pale face flushed red. “Yao! Yan! Yan!” she ground out through clenched teeth, her words dripping with unhidden anger. “Don’t be too much!”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“Tell Qin Luo to answer the phone!”
“No, he’s busy. We’re both busy... Okay, gotta go. Bye.”
“Yao...”
Before Xu Ke could finish, the line went dead. When she tried calling Yao Yanyan again, there was no response at all. Xu Ke then tried to call Qin Luo, but realized she didn’t even have his number anymore. He had given it to her before, but she hadn’t saved it; their only contact was through WeChat. But... but he had already blocked me...

Xu Ke bit her lip, unable to restrain her emotions any longer. She sent a message to Qin Luo, but the next second, all she saw was a glaring red exclamation mark. A wave of helplessness swept over her, and she collapsed into a nearby chair. Leaning back, her arms dangling by her sides, her eyes glazed as she stared blankly at the ceiling, her pale and powerless appearance like a lifeless paper flower.
Xu Ke didn’t understand why she felt this way, why her usually steady emotions now churned so violently, nor did she know what the faint ache in her chest meant. She only knew that whenever she saw the photo of Qin Luo and Yao Yanyan together, whenever she saw Qin Luo singing to her, or when she heard his voice on Yao Yanyan’s phone, the discomfort inside her intensified. This unprecedented feeling left her helpless and confused, unable to resist it.
Lying on the bed, Chu Sijin watched Xu Ke with a mix of surprise and concern. After hesitating for a while, she finally asked, “Xu Ke, are you okay? Are you sick? Do you want to see a doctor?” Sick... Am I sick...? Xu Ke silently questioned herself but found no answer. She only vaguely felt as if something important had slipped away from her.
Without a response from Xu Ke, Chu Sijin’s worry deepened. Recalling the events of the previous day, she guessed the conflict between Xu Ke and Yao Yanyan had worsened. From what Xu Ke said during the call, it seemed Qin Luo was still with Yao Yanyan. Could they really be together? But even so, Xu Ke’s reaction seemed excessive. After all, she didn’t even like Qin Luo...
Chu Sijin’s small mind was filled with big questions she could not resolve. Worried about Xu Ke’s current state, she thought for a long time before deciding to send a message to Tang Yu instead. She didn’t contact her twin sister because, knowing Chu Liunian well, she was probably wearing headphones playing games or watching anime, maybe not even realizing class had ended. She was so absorbed in the two-dimensional world it was worrying!
Tang Yu was different. She was not only the vice president of the student council but also kind, mature, and a year older than them all. She often helped solve many problems they encountered. In room 606, Tang Yu was like a big sister or even a mother figure, always tolerant and supportive. So when problems arose, everyone agreed to turn to Tang Yu.
Soon, Tang Yu arrived. Her refined oval face was flushed, and her breathing was a bit rapid, as if she had run all the way back. This was because Chu Sijin had only vaguely explained that Xu Ke was acting very strangely and asked her to come quickly. Concerned for her roommate, Tang Yu hurried back and upon entering saw Xu Ke slumped in a chair, looking utterly dazed. Her state was even worse than when Qin Luo had upset her the day before.
Tang Yu quickly went over to support her, anxiously asking, “Xu Ke, what’s wrong?” She glanced at Chu Sijin, who shook her head uncertainly, not knowing what to say, then quietly got out of bed. Tang Yu then asked again, “Are you feeling unwell? Should I take you to the infirmary?” Xu Ke still gave no response, sitting there as if disconnected from her surroundings.
Frowning, Tang Yu was about to take Xu Ke to the infirmary when Chu Sijin suddenly gasped. Tang Yu instinctively looked at her, but Chu Sijin said nothing, only quickly turned her phone screen toward her. Tang Yu focused her eyes and was involuntarily stunned.
On Chu Sijin’s screen was a message just sent by Chu Liunian. The content of the message was unimportant; what mattered were the attached photos and videos.

In the photo, Qin Luo and Yao Yanyan sat close together, their eyes meeting with gentle smiles. In the video, Qin Luo stood on a podium holding a guitar, surrounded by enraptured students, while Yao Yanyan stood among them, gazing at Qin Luo from across the space.
“This...” Tang Yu was taken aback, both amazed by Qin Luo’s song and surprised by the seemingly unusual relationship between him and Yao Yanyan. She wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent, exchanging a glance with Chu Sijin. From that look, they shared the same understanding—Xu Ke’s current state was surely connected to these photos and videos. Or, more precisely, connected to Qin Luo.
Tang Yu then turned to look at Xu Ke, her eyes filled with some doubt. Could it be that Xu Ke actually liked Qin Luo? Otherwise, why such a strong reaction? But if she did like him, why had she always denied it? Why had she never responded to Qin Luo’s feelings? Tang Yu wanted to ask directly but seeing Xu Ke’s lost and disheartened state, she held back. Partly she didn’t want to upset Xu Ke further, and partly she didn’t believe Xu Ke would let someone she liked slip away. After all, what woman would be so foolish?
...
At the amusement park, Qin Luo got off a bumper car and asked Yao Yanyan, “Who just called you?” Yao Yanyan looked at him with a teasing smile and replied, “What? Jealous?” Qin Luo shook his head with a mix of amusement and helplessness. Actually, he didn’t really want to know; it was just a casual conversational opener, like “Nice weather today” or “What did you have for breakfast?”—a way to naturally start talking.
But this little trickster seemed to have some chatting routine etched into her DNA, always steering the conversation smoothly in a certain rhythm, making it hard to guard against.
Seeing his exasperated look, Yao Yanyan grinned and said, “Alright, it was a girl’s call. You’re relieved now, right?” Here she goes again, this annoying woman trying to trap me... Qin Luo glanced at her but didn’t respond, instead saying, “I’m going to get some ice cream.”
With that, he walked toward a nearby ice cream stall, Yao Yanyan following closely behind, hands clasped behind her back, leaning forward slightly like a mischievous little girl. “Aren’t you curious?” she asked. “It’s just a call, what’s there to be curious about?” he replied. “What if it’s a call related to you?” “Why would your call have anything to do with me?” “Because it was Xu Ke calling. She seems to be looking for you and sounded really anxious, even said she wanted you to answer.”
“Is that so? Then why would she be looking for me?” “I don’t know. Maybe... she likes you and is afraid I’ll steal you away?” Hearing this, Qin Luo suddenly stopped walking. He turned to Yao Yanyan for two seconds and then burst out laughing. “That’s a pretty funny joke.”
Yao Yanyan grinned. “Yeah, it is. I don’t believe it either. If she really liked you, would she just let you go? What woman would be that stupid?”
Yeah, so she can’t like me... Qin Luo smiled faintly and resumed walking forward.
