Chapter 34: He Really Is a Good Man!
Qin Luo listened quietly to Chu Sijin’s words, and after a long silence, he replied softly, "It doesn't matter anymore."
Chu Sijin found this answer strange. Either he liked it or he didn't—what did "it doesn't matter anymore" mean?
Before she could press him, Qin Luo waved his hand and turned to walk away, as if intending to leave immediately.
Chu Sijin subconsciously gave chase. Her short legs moved quickly, and she caught up to his side in no time.
Qin Luo looked back at her, feeling both amused and helpless. "Something else?"
Chu Sijin was momentarily dazed. She didn't actually have anything else to ask him; her body had simply moved faster than her brain. She didn't know why she had followed him—perhaps because she had enjoyed spending time with him today? Because he had been kind to her? Or maybe she just wanted to keep talking to him?
Chu Sijin couldn't figure it out. Her small mind was always filled with various delicacies, not messy, complicated thoughts.
She decided to stop dwelling on it and asked, "Are you free tomorrow?"
Qin Luo countered, "Why? Trying to ask me out on a date?"
Chu Sijin had always been rather thick-skinned regarding topics or actions involving the opposite sex, so she didn't show any bashfulness or shyness at his question. She just gave a cheeky grin and said, "Liunian wants to ask you to go to an anime convention with her tomorrow."
That was not something he could ignore. Qin Luo’s pace faltered. With an expression of both confusion and surprise, he asked, "Your sister? Wants to go to an anime convention with me?"
"Uh-huh!" Chu Sijin nodded, looking certain. "She’s wanted to find you for a few days, but she was too shy to ask you herself, so I, as her older sister, had to help her out. After all, I am the big sister!"
*You don't look much like a big sister when you’re licking the plate after eating potato chips,* Qin Luo thought to himself instinctively. He then paused, pulled out an earphone, and put it in his ear.
A second later, Chu Sijin’s inner voice rang directly in his mind.
*"Eh? Why did he suddenly put on headphones?"*
*"I wonder if he’ll agree? He should, right? Yanyan said boys have no resistance to pretty girls, and Liunian is quite pretty."*
*"Heh heh heh, stinky Liunian, just because she’s the younger sister she forced me to ask him first. Now that I’m sending Qin Luo straight to her, let’s see how she hides!"*
*"Wait, will he see through my lie? He looks so smart, but he shouldn't, right? I’m not stupid either."*
*"Wuwuwu, the potato chips Qin Luo fried are so delicious. Should I share them with the others back at the dorm? There are four of them; they’ll take so much away, I’m a little reluctant."*
*"Hmm... decided. I’ll ask him to fry more for me after I finish these. He’s such a nice person, he shouldn't refuse me!"*
*"And the snack gift pack Xu Ke promised me... heh heh heh, since I finished the mission so smoothly, I can go ask for it when I get back!"*
Qin Luo: "..."
Honestly, every time he used the "Heart-Listening" earphones on the members of the Goddess Group, their images in his mind were refreshed. This time, Qin Luo deeply understood the meaning of "birds of a feather flock together."
The staff at Magic City University clearly had a keen eye. They hadn't brought these girls together solely for their stunning looks; perhaps they had long since discovered the goofy hearts hidden beneath their gorgeous exteriors.
Like Yao Yanyan, who was charming on the outside but a drama queen on the inside; Tang Yu, who was prim and proper but liked to call people "stinky little brother" in her head; and Chu Sijin, who was a foodie on the outside—and still a foodie on the inside.
*Fine, I admit you have a pure heart,* Qin Luo thought with a sigh, then took off the earphones.
Chu Sijin asked curiously, "Why did you suddenly put on headphones?"
Qin Luo didn't explain. "Sure. Send me the address and time, and I'll find her tomorrow."
"Really?" Chu Sijin’s eyes lit up, and she was so delighted she couldn't help but exclaim, "Great! Now Liunian can't run away!"
She realized she had let something slip a few seconds later. Nervous, she looked at Qin Luo, but seeing no particular reaction from him, she let out a sigh of relief in her heart.
*He doesn't seem that smart after all... but he’s a good person!*
Chu Sijin silently labeled Qin Luo with one tag after another, then exchanged WeChat contacts with him and waved goodbye.
Qin Luo strolled back to his dorm, while Chu Sijin headed back to hers, clutching her bag full of snacks.
It was dusk, and students were either wandering outside or nesting in their dorms. The members of the Goddess Group looked glamorous, but they were actually homebodies. When Chu Sijin returned, they were all gathered in the dorm.
Chu Liunian, however, was acting strangely. As soon as Chu Sijin entered, Liunian was rushing out as if she had urgent business.
Chu Sijin bumped right into her twin sister's chest.
With a dull thud, Chu Sijin stumbled back, holding her forehead and complaining indignantly, "Liunian, what are you doing!"
"What about you? Why did you come in so suddenly? You bumped into me and it hurts!" Chu Liunian looked equally aggrieved, rubbing her chest.
The other three in the room looked over, their gazes lingering on Chu Liunian’s chest for a moment before they exchanged knowing looks of pity.
It was Chu Sijin’s bad luck. If she had bumped into any of the others, she wouldn't have been hurt, as they all had a bit more... "padding." But Chu Liunian was different; as the girl with the most "formidable" assets in the group, bumping into her chest was not much different from hitting a wall.
Chu Sijin rubbed her forehead and asked, "Where are you rushing off to?"
"Huh?" Chu Liunian paused, as if remembering something. She said, sounding both nervous and puzzled, "I heard someone say you suddenly got sick in the teaching building and were lying on the floor, so I was going to find you... but you're fine? Did they lie to me?"
The others realized what was going on. They had just heard about Chu Sijin’s sudden illness, so they all turned their gazes to her, full of concern and curiosity.
At the mention of this, Qin Luo’s image naturally surfaced in Chu Sijin’s mind. She smiled and said, "I'm fine now. Qin Luo took me to the infirmary, and then he bought me some snacks. I felt better after eating them."
"Oh, right! Later we went to the Gourmet Club event. I was just going to try some food, but Qin Luo entered too. He fried so many potato chips, they were delicious."
"He even took first place and gave me the winning vouchers. He’s such a good person!"
Chu Sijin spoke as if recounting a wonderful experience, her face full of sincere joy. As she talked, she held up the voucher like a little girl showing off a treasure.
The others listened silently. They were no longer worried about her, but the way they looked at her became increasingly strange.
Chu Sijin, however, didn't notice at all. She opened her small bag and said, "Look, these are the potato chips Qin Luo fried! He even packed a few bags for me to bring back. You guys should try some too!"
She took out the chips. There were four bags total, and she took out three, intending to give them to her roommates. Then, seeing only one lonely bag left in her bag, she hesitated, put one back, and held out the remaining two, asking pitifully, "I don't have many... two bags should be enough for you guys, right?"
Seeing her adorable, cautious expression, everyone except Liunian couldn't help but smile, the strange looks on their faces fading.
The keyword "Qin Luo" naturally caused emotional ripples in them. Since Chu Sijin was their roommate, they couldn't possibly have no reaction. It was the same as when Yao Yanyan and Tang Yu had their respective encounters with him.
But with Chu Sijin, it was a different situation. After all, what kind of malicious intent could a girl who was essentially a reincarnated snack bag, with a head full of nothing but food, possibly have?
"You keep them for yourself; I don't really eat snacks," Tang Yu said gently.
Yao Yanyan added, "I’ll just taste one. I’m not that interested in snacks."
Chu Sijin was thrilled. "You guys are all good people!"
Then, Xu Ke spoke up slowly, "I want a bag."
Those four words almost made Chu Sijin choke on her breath. She reluctantly handed one bag to Xu Ke and another to Yao Yanyan.
Yao Yanyan took a chip and ate it. She nodded and said, "Not bad. I didn't expect him to be good at cooking."
"Really?" Tang Yu seemed interested. She took a chip, chewed, and praised, "The taste is indeed good... I didn't expect him to have this skill either. It seems the more we interact with him, the more we discover things about him that are different from before."
Tang Yu’s comment was a heartfelt reflection, but there was someone in the room with deep, complicated ties to Qin Luo—someone whose thought process was not exactly normal. Consequently, Tang Yu received a death stare from Xu Ke.
Tang Yu coughed twice, turned her head away with an "I didn't say anything" expression, and handed the chips back to Chu Sijin.
Chu Sijin beamed, but just as she was about to take them back, Liunian reached out and snatched them away.
Chu Sijin panicked. "Liunian, give them back!"
"No!" Chu Liunian said firmly. "You were sharing these with us, so I get a share. You still have two bags left; eat those."
"But... but two bags aren't enough for me..."
"That’s not my problem. If you finish them, just ask Qin Luo to fry more. I used up a lot of energy looking for you, so I need to replenish it."
"You didn't even leave the dorm! What energy did you use up!"
Chu Sijin glared indignantly at her twin sister, but Chu Liunian didn't care at all. She sat back down at her desk with the full bag of chips and started watching anime while eating them.
On the other side, Xu Ke looked at the full bag of chips in her hand, remaining motionless for a long time.
Suddenly, she looked up and asked Chu Sijin, "Qin Luo... did he say anything to you?"
