Chapter 49: The Heirship Handover Banquet
Early in the morning, Jiang Xue and Jiang Jintao, along with others, stood at the entrance of Jiangcheng Hotel, greeting and hosting prominent figures from various groups attending the heirship handover banquet.
Around ten o’clock, Qin Mu also arrived at the hotel. Seeing the expression on Jiang Xue’s face, Qin Mu restrained the impulse to strike her.
“Brother Qin Mu, Chenchen, I haven’t seen you both at Yun City no matter how many times I went this month. Are you still mad at me?” Jiang Xue asked.
Qin Mu snorted coldly. “Cut the act, Jiang Xue. I came straight from the hospital to see Grandpa Jiang. Can’t you just be yourself?”
Jiang Xue appeared startled. “Brother Qin Mu, what do you mean? I’m just being myself! Chenchen, Mom really misses you, Mom—”
Chenchen, frightened, hid behind Qin Mu. “You’re not my mom. My mom isn’t you.”
Jiang Xue gritted her teeth in anger. “You, you ungrateful brat, I—”
She raised her hand but was caught by Qin Mu. “Jiang Xue, you have no right to lay a hand on Chenchen. I believe soon we will uncover the truth.”
Realizing she had lost her composure, Jiang Xue quickly forced a smile. “Right, I shouldn’t hit him. After all, Chenchen is my biological son. But soon you will all know the truth. When my father takes over Jiang Group, I will become the eldest lady of the Jiang family. My worth will immediately increase by 40 billion. So, Qin Mu, I think marrying me will definitely add glory to you.”
Qin Mu sneered. “Grandpa Jiang told me to hold back. I hope your dream comes true.”
Saying this, Qin Mu took his son and headed inside, just as Jiang Li and Assistant Lin arrived.
Jiang Xue blocked Jiang Li. “Wait. Cousin, what are you doing here at a high-class event like this? You’re just a lowly commoner. Don’t forget, you barely got into Jiang Group by using underhanded tricks. Someone like you doesn’t deserve to attend this banquet. As for Assistant Lin, he’s my uncle’s assistant and can enter, but as for you? Go back where you came from.”
Jiang Xue’s words prompted Jiang Jintao to step forward. “Yeah, this banquet is for distinguished guests only. You’re just a junior designer in the group. How dare you show up here? Who gave you the nerve?”
Jiang Li smiled faintly and pulled out an invitation. “You wanted an invitation, right? Here it is—the invitation from Grandpa Jiang himself. Don’t tell me you think it’s fake?”
Jiang Jintao took the golden invitation and, anger surging, realized his own invitation was silver, yet Jiang Li’s was this precious gold one.
He smirked and tore the invitation to shreds, disdain dripping from his voice. “This invitation is fake. I, Jiang Jintao, will be the heir of the group. Only the silver invitation is valid. Yours is gold—what else could it be but a fake? Even if it’s a high-quality counterfeit, it’s a poor imitation.”
Jiang Li smiled slightly. “Oh really? Mr. Jiang Jintao, are you sure mine is fake? This was given to me personally by Grandpa.”
“Shut up! Who do you think you are, calling my uncle ‘grandpa’?” Jiang Jintao’s fury blazed.
Jiang Li smiled calmly. “Whether you believe my invitation is genuine or not doesn’t matter. I just want to tell you, Mr. Jiang Jintao, that I was personally invited by Grandpa. Assistant Lin can vouch for me. If you continue to block me, then I think a warning is necessary.”
With that, six bodyguards appeared behind Jiang Li. Jiang Jintao was dumbfounded.
“This is Jiangcheng Hotel, the Jiang family’s territory. You actually listen to a low-level employee? Are you crazy?”
Suddenly, Jiang Xue rushed over, angrily scolding the bodyguards. But they bowed respectfully to Jiang Li.
“Miss Jiang, please enter! The former chairman ordered that anyone trying to stop you from entering must be removed without exception.”
Jiang Jintao shouted angrily, “You scoundrels! The former chairman is sick and hospitalized; he hasn’t woken up yet. When did he give you such orders? And this woman is just a lowly employee. What right does she have to attend such a high-class banquet?”
The bodyguards bowed again. “Mr. Jiang, you probably don’t know the chairman’s orders. Sorry, we only obey his commands. Here is a video.”
The bodyguards produced a video of the former chairman Jiang Zhenting giving the order.
“All Jiang Group personnel and all security and staff under my jurisdiction must obey Jiang Li’s arrangements. Treat her as you would me. No one is allowed to oppose her.”
The video ended. Jiang Jintao and Jiang Xue were speechless.
“Cousin, what did you do to Grandpa? Did you force him to record this video? What exactly are you trying to do? Do you think becoming Ji Han’s fiancée means you can run wild without consequences? Don’t forget you’re still married to Chen Shaojie.”
Jiang Li smiled without anger. “I didn’t force Grandpa to record the video. I just ask: can I enter the banquet or not?”
Jiang Xue put on a wronged expression. “Cousin, why would you ask such a thing? If you really want to go in, just tell me and I can take you in. But at an event like this, wearing what you’re wearing—probably bought by Ji Han—you may look good on the outside, but can you really handle it? I’m afraid you’ll only embarrass yourself.”
Jiang Li laughed. She was too tired to argue with the pair before her. Turning away, she walked in with a proud and commanding air. Jiang Xue tried to stop her, but the bodyguards gave no chance.
After Jiang Li entered the banquet hall, Jiang Xue curled her lips into a mocking smile and immediately called Chen Shaojie on her phone.
Most of the guests had arrived. Jiang Li glanced up at her mother, Xie Yun, and Youyou, who were quietly hiding on the second floor. She calmed herself.
What Jiang Li hadn’t expected was that Chen Shaojie actually dared to show up.
She also noticed the plainclothes police blending into the crowd and smiled slightly. The show was about to begin.
After all, Lawyer Ding had brought the documents as well.
Assistant Lin took charge. “Dear guests and colleagues, good morning. Our chairman, Mr. Jiang Zhenting, suffered a sudden myocardial infarction last night and was hospitalized. He has not yet awakened. However, he said that nothing should delay today’s Jiang Group heirship handover. With a heavy heart, I ask you all to bear witness.”
The room fell silent, unsure how to react to Assistant Lin’s words.
Jiang Jintao, with a heavy expression, spoke next. “Thank you all for coming. As Assistant Lin said, my uncle has been hospitalized and remains unconscious. But the heir has long been decided by Lawyer Ding. Let’s invite Lawyer Ding to the stage to announce the next heir of Jiang Group.”
After speaking, Jiang Jintao’s face showed confidence. He firmly believed the heirship was his.
Even Lawyer Ding, holding the documents, stepped onto the stage with an air of pride.
