Chapter 65: Study Tour
Infinsilton School, Third-Grade Classroom.
Yaoyao was holding the study-tour itinerary in her hands, her eyes glued to the page.
Europe must be a very faraway place, right?
It is on the other side of the Earth.
There would be scenery she had never seen before, and the independent life she longed for immensely.
Visiting the fjords in Norway, hiking in the Oslo forests, touring the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, learning about the historical evolution and campus culture of the University of Helsinki...
Yaoyao’s eyes were starting to blur from reading.
However, the entire study tour would cost a total of 58,000 yuan in various fees from start to finish. That averaged out to 5,000 yuan a day. She was afraid her parents would never agree to it.
The entire classroom was already in an uproar because of this study-tour itinerary.
"Wow, this year's spring field trip is going so far! Traveling abroad!"
"We'll need passports, right? My parents had one made for me last year, so I can use it again this time."
A slightly chubby kid eagerly joined the huddle: "Ah, I'm so jealous! Even though Europe is such a great place, just going on a trip like that costs tens of thousands. My dad won't agree."
Another girl also nodded and said: "Yeah, my mom told me too. Europe is nice, but this price isn't worth it. And the season isn't very comfortable either. Better wait until our break and go as a family. My dad promised to take me to see the aurora and the Big Ben in England."
The boy next to them disagreed entirely: "Tch, who wants to travel with their parents? Too many rules and such a hassle. Of course hanging out with classmates is the most fun!"
"But this isn't an ordinary spring outing that can be covered with a few thousand yuan. A study tour probably requires writing lots of diaries and reports, right? And communicating entirely in English? Sounds so hard."
"Saying all that is just comforting yourself. Don't you actually want to go?"
The girl who had just spoken curled her lip: "Yes. If I could go, of course I'd want to. But my dad definitely won't agree. However, Yaoyao is different!"
Hearing her name suddenly mentioned by a classmate nearby, Yaoyao's ears twitched. She didn't turn her head, just listening as they went on.
"Yaoyao's parents are so open-minded, they've got her covered with all the top perks. They'll definitely let her participate in a great activity like this."
"Totally, Yaoyao's mom always supports all her activities. When the school offered to subscribe to the computer newspaper and magazine, Yaoyao's mom bought her a full-year subscription on the spot. And the school milk, Yaoyao never misses a single day. If only my mom could be that open-minded."
Yaoyao remained silent.
Open-minded?
Heh!
She participated in all those activities simply because she paid for all of them herself! The WeChat account named "Cheng Luyao's Mother" in the class group chat was on her own phone; when had her mother or father ever cared about her?
Even all the forms requiring a parent's signature were signed by Yaoyao herself!
People always say children can't imitate their parents' handwriting—bullshit. As long as you start forging your parents' signatures from the very first time, your parents' handwriting simply evolves to look like that.
By now, if her parents were actually asked to sign their own names on a test paper, the teacher wouldn't even believe it.
Anyway, her parents never bothered about her and practically never communicated with teachers.
The truth was known only to herself.
"Yaoyao, Yaoyao, are you planning to sign up for the study tour? There are only 60 spots for the entire grade."
While Yaoyao was lost in her wandering thoughts, the clustered classmates quickly sought her out.
Yaoyao put on a thoughtful look: "If I want to go, of course I can. But Europe isn't that interesting anyway. I've already been there many times."
Seeming long accustomed to lying, Yaoyao spoke effortlessly without a moment's hesitation.
The classmates had no reason to doubt her: "That's true, Yaoyao's parents treat her so well. Whenever there's a break, they take her traveling all over the world. A place like Europe, she's already been there several times."
"Oh, how can that compare? This is a study tour, not with parents. There are lots of outdoor activities. It must be so interesting. Yaoyao, Yaoyao, are you going? If you go, I want to go too."
"Yeah Yaoyao, look at Tony's class; last time they signed up for horseback riding lessons, they sneered at our class for being country bumpkins who never participated in high-society activities. For this study tour, our class should sign up a bunch of people and blind those snobs."
"Exactly! Our class relationship is so good, we should participate in more group activities."
"Beibei, hurry up and sign up too. You're close to Yaoyao, don't you live in the same residential compound? Make Yaoyao's parents put in a good word for you."
Several classmates naturally started plotting. If no one in the class signed up, they definitely had zero hope, but if someone took the lead and formed a small clique, maybe their own families would agree?
"Yaoyao, Yaoyao. If you sign up, you'll be our class leader. You're well-traveled and have been to Europe a few times, we'll all follow your lead."
"Yeah, Yaoyao, you're the big sister of our class. Even though Europe isn't fresh to you, if you go, it'll be easier for me to talk to my parents."
Yaoyao was caught in a dilemma.
She knew very well her parents would never agree.
Her father and mother were not open-minded at all; they never supported any of her activities. They simply couldn't be bothered with her, and everything was merely an illusion she had constructed.
She had faked it all!
All the class expenses, the magazine subscriptions, the spring-trip snacks, the party desserts—she had posted messages in the group chat under the name of "Cheng Luyao's Mother" to show support, and then paid for them out of her own pocket!
Where did she get her money?
Weren't they all earned by "twisting her waist" over and over again?
And all of this could never be told to anyone.
Yaoyao had always carefully controlled the people in her waist-twisting group. Most of them were fans automatically pushed to her by the "Breaking Cocoon" software. She had to witness with her own eyes that a person had followed her for more than two weeks and participated in her livestream more than three times before she would chat with them privately.
Even after private messaging, she had to make sure the other person was just a typical pervert rather than a catfish before adding their WeChat.
However, this also limited the expansion of Yaoyao's business. She spent money lavishly, and now she didn't have much left.
Her classmates only knew how to be envious, completely unaware that Yaoyao had simply woven a massive lie.
The study tour was no small sum. If it were ten or twenty thousand, or at most thirty or forty thousand, her father might have agreed.
But this time it cost 60,000 yuan; how could she possibly have that much money?
When she twisted her waist online, she only charged 30 yuan per person.
Yet her classmates were full of enthusiasm, and at this moment, letting Yaoyao flatly refuse was out of the question. Ultimately, she could only stall for time.
"Let's talk later! If Dad doesn't have any other travel plans, I'll tell him it's fine if I join the study tour."
"Yay! That's great, Yaoyao, we'll wait for your good news."
"It'll definitely be fine. Our class is counting on you to shield us. Europe is so far away, without a familiar little buddy leading the way, I wouldn't dare go."
"It's all up to you, Yaoyao~"
