Chapter 21: Who Understands? Sixty Lessons!

The motorcycle rolled over the dry roads of the county seat; the main roads were clean and wide, with the wind rushing past them.
“Zhao, sis.”
“What’s up, handsome?”
“How’s the new job going?” Jiang Nian recalled she had been a bit clumsy when getting her membership card, probably a little nervous. “You’ve started working, right?”
“Yes, I have. Actually, I owe you thanks for that,” Zhao Qiuxue said with a smile as she rode. “If you hadn’t gotten the card and bought the sessions, I wouldn’t have been able to skip the probation period.”
“It was nothing, really,” Jiang Nian replied casually. “If I hadn’t bought it for you, someone else would have. You know, keeping the benefits in the family, right?”
“That’s true, but I only found out later that you and Yunyun know each other,” Zhao Qiuxue said sweetly. “She told me you scored 573—really impressive.”
Jiang Nian clicked his tongue, thinking to himself how filial the “daughter” was behind the scenes. This money was well spent.
About fifteen or sixteen minutes later, they arrived at the gym. It was located on the second floor of a large mall, and it was somewhat bigger than the gym Zhao Qiuxue had left two days ago.
The side facing the street had been converted into a glass wall, with a row of treadmills placed there to attract customers.
Ding. Jiang Nian swiped his card and entered the gym.
Not many people were working out in the evening; there were plenty of machines, and signs indicated a swimming area inside. Jiang Nian hadn’t noticed last time, but now he saw this gym was pretty decent.
If he had time in the future, he could come here to swim and get his money’s worth.
Zhao Qiuxue went to change clothes, and Jiang Nian wandered around on his own.
Soon, Zhao Qiuxue came out wearing black leggings, a tank top, and a thin gray short jacket, smiling gently.
“Let’s go; class is starting.”
Come to think of it, Song Xiyun looked quite similar to Zhao Qiuxue, though their personalities were very different. Song Xiyun was half as innocent and carefree as her mother, but not quite...
The lesson was ordinary, mostly covering the correct use of equipment, training duration, and proper exercise form. Zhao Qiuxue was quite professional.
After about twenty minutes of training, Jiang Nian was already sweating and asked curiously,
“Sis, you didn’t use to work in the county, right?”
“Oh? How did you know?” Zhao Qiuxue touched her face and smiled gently. “I used to work at a gym in the big city, then came back because of some things.”

“I could tell—you’re used to life in a big city. The county must feel dull,” Jiang Nian said.
“That’s true, the small county...” Zhao Qiuxue sighed softly but still smiled. “Once Yunyun goes to college, I’ll probably head back too.”
After a short break, the class resumed with more explanation of exercises.
Zhao Qiuxue taught seriously, without a trace of negligence. Initially, Jiang Nian intended to just go through the motions, but as he practiced, he became genuinely interested and kept following along.
“Guys should train their legs more; it’ll be good for you later,” she said with a teasing smile.
Seeing her mischievous grin, Jiang Nian felt a bit embarrassed and thought to secretly record this to show Song Xiyun later.
“Well... then I’ll train.”
Working out could be addictive. At eighteen, with his body fully developed, moderate exercise was beneficial. After sweating profusely through the session, he headed straight for the shower.
He thought to himself that he should come more often to train his legs.
In the equipment area, Zhao Qiuxue stretched after finishing the class. She had just switched jobs two days ago, and so far, Jiang Nian was her only client, so there wasn’t much pressure.
Seeing Jiang Nian truly enjoying the equipment, Zhao Qiuxue finally felt a weight lift from her heart.
Suddenly, a female trainer approached.
“Qiuxue? Where’s your handsome guy?”
“Hm? He’s in the shower,” Zhao Qiuxue replied, turning to see the cheerful female colleague she had met yesterday. “What’s up, Lingling? Aren’t you supposed to be teaching?”
“Ugh, don’t mention it,” Mei Wanling said with a troubled face. “Yesterday, a client booked ten sessions, but today suddenly asked if we could provide extra services.”
“Ah?”
“Yeah, wasted effort,” Mei Wanling sighed. “You think all clients are as good as your handsome guy who pays and behaves cleanly.”
“Hehe, if it’s the handsome guy, extra service might not even be a loss.”
“Pfft, what nonsense,” Zhao Qiuxue scolded lightly, “he’s still a kid, don’t say such things.”
“Hehe, Qiuxue, don’t fool me. You can’t even get a card without being eighteen,” Mei Wanling became more excited. “So it’s legal...”
Zhao Qiuxue couldn’t stand it anymore and tried to leave, but Mei Wanling grabbed her arm.
“Teach me, Qiuxue, how to find quality clients.”

“How would I know? He’s my daughter’s classmate,” Zhao Qiuxue said helplessly. Seeing no one else around, she smiled faintly, “I suspect they’re already dating...”
“Really?” Mei Wanling suddenly became interested, hugging her arm. “Tell me more—I love hearing this kind of stuff.”
Before she could continue, a stern female voice carried from afar.
“Is your free time just for slacking off?”
Zhao Qiuxue’s face changed upon hearing this. Mei Wanling frowned and turned to look at the woman wearing a tank top and yoga pants, her figure provocatively voluptuous.
“What’s it to you? Ren Meimei, are you the boss?”
“Hmph, I’ll report this to the boss,” the woman said, swaying her hips disdainfully as she approached. “Mei Wanling, mind your own business. Always hanging out with shady people.”
Mei Wanling cursed the flirt in her heart. “You’re the shady one. Qiuxue just made a sale two days ago. Stop envying and being jealous. Do you usually hang around the gym area?”
“Besides, Qiuxue just finished teaching. What are you barking about?”
In small counties, fitness instructors doubled as salespeople. Those with steady clients who prepaid for sessions were tolerated by the boss.
New trainers without resources had to roam the gym, guiding members and trying to attract them to buy sessions.
“Sales? Probably just charging herself. Paid work is rare these days,” Ren Meimei crossed her arms disdainfully. “You can fool your friends, but don’t fool yourself.”
“A high schooler who spends all day teaching getting a card and buying sessions? Ridiculous. At least find someone who works as a cover. Please be professional. Which high schooler has time to work out?”
“What if she’s good at school? You can’t expect everyone to be ignorant,” Mei Wanling retorted, always at odds with Ren Meimei.
“Heh, what good student goes to a gym?” Ren Meimei sneered as if she saw through everything. “You believe whatever they say—so naive.”
“An eighteen-year-old boy’s mind is always on certain things, I know that. It’s just that he didn’t say it outright.”
Zhao Qiuxue frowned at this. Criticizing others was one thing, but mentioning Jiang Nian was something she couldn’t ignore. No matter what, Jiang Nian was a good kid.
Just as she was about to speak up, Jiang Nian’s voice came from a distance.
“Sis, please help me top up sixty more sessions.”
