Lin Nan noticed the awkward expression on Ji Zifeng’s face and immediately understood. Pretending not to know him, he smiled and said, “So you’re Mr. Ji’s son. Nice to meet you.”
Seeing Lin Nan act as though they had never met, Ji Zifeng felt deeply grateful.
If his father learned that he had been to the hospital—and had even sought treatment in the emergency department—he would certainly ask why. With only a little investigation, there would be no way to conceal the fact that Ji Zifeng had previously come to the hospital to retrieve a ball.
“Nice to meet you too.” Ji Zifeng quickly replied, “Dr. Lin, the risk of my father’s surgery shouldn’t be too high, right?”
“Don’t worry. There’s almost no risk,” Lin Nan said with a smile.
Ji Zifeng nodded lightly.
He naturally had complete faith in Lin Nan’s medical skills.
Lin Nan then said to Ji Guoping, “Mr. Ji, for safety’s sake, the nurse will take you for a physical examination first. Once we confirm that everything is fine, I’ll perform the surgery.”
“No problem.” Ji Guoping cooperated readily and followed a nurse away.
Only after Ji Guoping had gone some distance did Lin Nan say, “Your father still doesn’t know that you came to the hospital the day before yesterday, does he?”
Ji Zifeng shook his head. “Are you kidding? How could I possibly let my father find out?”
“If my father learned that I liked men, he’d beat me to death!”
Lin Nan found himself in complete agreement.
Ordinary parents truly could not accept their son being attracted to men. They would consider it immoral and disgraceful.
At that moment, Ji Zifeng seemed to remember something else. A smile curled at the corners of his lips. “There’s something you don’t know, Dr. Lin. Zhuo Yuhao took the day off today. I heard from our class counselor that he’s even requested extended leave—apparently for a whole week.”
“A week off?” Lin Nan raised an eyebrow. “The medication I prescribed him happens to be enough for exactly one week.”
“No wonder he just happened to take a week off,” Ji Zifeng muttered.
He looked at Lin Nan and said somewhat sheepishly, “Dr. Lin, was I too harsh with Zhuo Yuhao?”
Lin Nan shook his head. “I think it was fine. Once you’re certain someone is a scumbag, you mustn’t show mercy or let him off easily.”
Hearing this, Ji Zifeng felt much more at ease.
“By the way, Dr. Lin, wasn’t a young man who had been in a car accident brought to your hospital for emergency treatment yesterday?” Ji Zifeng asked.

“Are you talking about Liu Jialiang?” Lin Nan asked.
“Yes, him!” Ji Zifeng nodded repeatedly. “We’re friends, and we’re both students at Linhai University. I heard he was in a car accident yesterday and that one of his legs was badly injured, but I don’t know how he’s doing now.”
“He’s fine, and his leg was saved,” Lin Nan said with a smile.
“That’s a relief.” Ji Zifeng was visibly relieved. “Zhuo Yuhao tried to hit on Liu Jialiang before, but Liu is straight and rejected him outright.”
Lin Nan could not help finding this amusing.
Who knew what Zhuo Yuhao had been thinking? He had actually set his sights on a basketball player. It was nothing short of wishful thinking.
Sports such as basketball and soccer were steeped in masculine energy. Lin Nan had never met a basketball player or soccer player who was gay.
“Then I’ll leave my father’s surgery to you. I’ll go check on Liu Jialiang first.” Ji Zifeng smiled again, then left.
Meanwhile, in an observation room in the emergency department, Cai Heping, deputy director of colorectal surgery, sat before a large screen with an impassive expression.
Two young doctors in white coats stood beside him.
One of them was Wu Wenxuan. The other was a young woman.
She was about the same age as Wu Wenxuan, with a lovely appearance, delicate and refined features, and a pair of black-rimmed glasses that gave her a quiet, composed air.
“Today, I’m going to see just how capable Lin Nan really is—capable enough to steal patients from our colorectal surgery department.” Cai Heping gave a cold snort. “I’m fully prepared. The moment Lin Nan makes a mistake, I’ll have my people step in and take over the surgery.”
Bai Yunxiao secretly shook his head.
After hearing that Lin Nan would be operating on Ji Guoping that afternoon, Cai Heping had made a special trip to the emergency department to see exactly how good Lin Nan’s surgical skills were.
“Although Lin Nan performed a very successful nerve-repair operation yesterday, neurology and colorectal surgery are entirely different fields. Just because he can perform nerve repairs well doesn’t mean he can also carry out a rectal cancer tumor resection.” Cai Heping continued to ramble.
Wu Wenxuan’s face was filled with even greater disdain.
Even if Lin Nan could identify a patient’s illness at a glance from the examination reports, that did not prove he could perform this operation well.
Chen Jing, however, had a trace of anticipation in her beautiful eyes.
She was an attending physician in colorectal surgery and naturally knew that Lin Nan had taken a patient away from their department.
But she did not mind.

She had always believed that Lin Nan’s ability to take a patient from a specialized department such as theirs and bring him to the emergency department proved that he possessed genuine skill.
She simply had no idea how extensive his abilities really were.
That could be determined clearly enough through a single operation.
Before long, the figures of the patient, Lin Nan, and the others appeared on the large screen.
“Lin Nan is here.” Cai Heping spoke in a low voice when he saw Lin Nan appear on the screen.
Bai Yunxiao watched Lin Nan on the screen, looking completely relaxed.
He had no doubts whatsoever about Lin Nan’s abilities.
As long as Lin Nan said he could perform an operation, Bai Yunxiao could confidently entrust it to him.
Inside the operating room, Lin Nan served as the chief surgeon. As yesterday, Jiang Yuan was the first assistant, while Li Qin was the second assistant.
After working together the previous day, the three of them had already developed excellent rapport.
“Let’s begin.” Lin Nan looked at everyone in the operating room.
Li Qin and the others nodded lightly.
The anesthesiologist had already administered the anesthetic to Ji Guoping, and he was now unconscious on the operating table.
Holding the scalpel, Lin Nan made a precise incision over Ji Guoping’s abdominal cavity. The incision was very small.
Seeing the way Lin Nan handled the scalpel, Cai Heping could not help frowning slightly in the observation room. “I’ve never seen that technique before.”
“The incision is so small—less than five centimeters. How is he supposed to carry out the next step?”
Wu Wenxuan secretly sneered at the sight.
It seemed this kid was performing this kind of surgery for the first time. He did not even have such basic experience.
Once the young man botched the operation, Director Cai would most likely send Wu Wenxuan into the operating room to take over. When that happened, he would have to put on an excellent performance and let this kid see just how vast the gap between their abilities really was.
