Chapter 25: The Impending Misfortune of the Blond-Haired Youth
Cao Kun’s remarks, while seemingly intended to put Wang Yifu at ease, were actually adding fuel to the fire. As the mastermind behind these events—and with Wang Shanshan and Bai Jing living in his home—he was intimately aware of the dynamics between the three.
Wasn't Wang Yifu already suspicious that Bai Jing had taken Wang Shanshan to spend the night at her lover's place? If he could turn that suspicion into a perceived reality, would Wang Yifu fly into a rage, losing his reason in a fit of fury? Absolutely. Men like Wang Yifu, who are chauvinistic and obsessed with their reputation, are prone to losing their heads when faced with such situations. Just like a mild-mannered man—once they finally snap, the consequences are often severe.
Drawing on ten years of prison experience, Cao Kun knew that a man blinded by rage is easily manipulated. He had pulled these strings countless times behind bars, and the method had never failed. Now, he was simply returning to his old trade.
Sure enough, Cao Kun’s words struck a nerve. Especially when Wang Yifu heard that Bai Jing was flirting and having a grand time with her male friend, he felt a murderous impulse. *I’m at home brooding, and you’re off having a blast with your lover? Bai Jing, you bitch, you’ve stopped pretending, haven't you? You’re openly cuckolding me now? Fine! Just you wait. Once I find you two adulterers, I’ll beat you to death!*
Sitting across from him, Cao Kun noticed the bulging veins on Wang Yifu’s forehead and his clenched fists. A faint, imperceptible smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He knew he had successfully ignited Wang Yifu’s wrath. For the rest of the time, Cao Kun played the role of a supportive junior, interjecting with just enough provocation to keep Wang Yifu’s pulse racing.
Finally, seven o'clock arrived. Two bottles of Moutai had long since been finished, followed by four cases of beer, and the floor was littered with cigarette butts. Anyone else would have been dead drunk by now, but Cao Kun and Wang Yifu held their own. Cao Kun’s physical conditioning from practicing the "Bucket 72 Techniques" had enhanced his constitution, including his tolerance for alcohol, while Wang Yifu was simply a heavy drinker. More importantly, Cao Kun had been carefully pacing their drinking, ensuring Wang Yifu stayed buzzed but functional; he couldn't have him passing out before the plan reached its climax.
The current state was perfect: about sixty or seventy percent drunk—the sweet spot where a man is impulsive, reckless, and bold.
Cao Kun took a sip of beer and looked at Wang Yifu. "Uncle, I honestly don't understand. Your relationship with Aunt Bai always seemed so good. How did things get this bad?"
Wang Yifu was thoroughly satisfied with this junior who had spent the better part of the day drinking with him. He was attentive in both conversation and company, and most importantly, he understood a man’s hardships. Earlier, when Cao Kun lamented how hard men have it—acting like sons and grandsons to others just to support a family—Wang Yifu had nearly grabbed his hand and called him a soulmate. *Look at that! Even a young man understands how difficult it is to provide, yet the woman who has lived with me for nearly twenty years? That bitch Bai Jing really deserves to die!*
In Wang Yifu’s eyes, Cao Kun had become a trusted confidant. When his "brother" asked a question, he didn't feel the need to hold back. He gulped down more beer, took a long, hard drag of his cigarette, and said, "Why the falling out? Ha! Isn't it because that slut Bai Jing cheated? You have no idea how cheap that woman is."
Cao Kun feigned shock, staring at Wang Yifu in disbelief. "Uncle Wang, surely not? Are you mistaken? How could Aunt Bai be that kind of person?"
Wang Yifu sneered, pulled out his phone with a cigarette hanging from his lip, opened a video, and shoved it toward Cao Kun. "Xiao Kun, let me teach you a truth today: there isn't a woman who isn't a bitch. Don't believe me? See for yourself."
Cao Kun looked at him with feigned skepticism, then finally took the phone. Five seconds. Ten. Twenty. Forty. After watching for less than a minute, Cao Kun dropped the phone, his face pale with shock. "Aunt Bai... she actually..."
Seeing his utter astonishment, Wang Yifu exhaled a cloud of smoke with a cold laugh. "Never thought she’d be that cheap, that loose—with three men at once?"
Cao Kun nodded blankly, staring at him.
"That’s what I’m teaching you. Never treat them too well. Understand?"
Cao Kun continued to nod, his expression dazed. "Uncle Wang, I... I think I recognize the guy with the yellow hair."
In the video, there were three thugs, each with distinct hairstyles. One of them had a buzz cut dyed bright yellow.
Hearing this, Wang Yifu’s brows furrowed instantly. "You know him?"
"Yes!" Cao Kun nodded firmly. "Back in school, he tried to ask me for information about Shanshan near the school gate. He wanted to hit on her. Uncle, you know I’ve always been pursuing Shanshan. The guy looked like trouble, so of course, I didn't tell him anything—I nearly got into a fight with him over it. I even looked into him and found out where he lived, but nothing came of it. I never expected that he would be involved with Aunt Bai..."
Cao Kun’s expression tightened with worry. "Uncle Wang, could Aunt Bai have taken Shanshan to live at that guy’s place? If so, Shanshan is in danger! This guy has been eyeing her for a long time. What if he takes advantage of the situation to..."
Although Wang Shanshan had sided with Bai Jing to beat Wang Yifu yesterday, Cao Kun had already smoothed over that resentment. Don't forget, Cao Kun had come here today under the pretense of being on Wang Shanshan's side. He had already painted a picture of her being so regretful that she was dying to kneel and apologize to Wang Yifu. To Wang Yifu, she was still his precious daughter, and he had already forgiven her.
Hearing Cao Kun’s words, Wang Yifu’s expression turned grave. His wife sleeping with a thug was one thing, but if his daughter were involved, there would be no reason for him to keep living.
"Where? Where does that yellow-haired punk live?" Wang Yifu asked, his voice murderous.
"Hongfu Residential Complex. I only know he lives in that complex; I don't know which building."
Wang Yifu’s face darkened. Without another word, he grabbed a beer bottle and stormed out.
Watching Wang Yifu’s retreating back, the corner of Cao Kun’s mouth finally curled upward. The story about seeing the yellow-haired thug at the school gate and him eyeing Shanshan was all a fabrication. However, there was one thing he hadn't lied about: that thug did indeed live in the Hongfu complex.
Cao Kun knew this because, in his previous life, that thug was the very man he had accidentally beaten to death. Since it was his first time killing someone, the details were etched into his memory—an impression that would never fade. As for the other two thugs, he couldn't remember them at all.
