Chapter 44: Continuing the Cursing Over the Phone
Faced with the predicament she currently found herself in, Wang Shanshan sorted out her thoughts in a very short time.
Moreover, she quickly figured out a way to resolve it.
However, things were not as simple as she had imagined.
If Cao Kun were still the obedient, subservient doormat he used to be, then it would indeed have been very simple.
With just a slight manipulation on her part, Cao Kun would happily and eagerly take care of all her tuition and living expenses for her four years of college.
Yet right now, Cao Kun was clearly no longer her usual lapdog.
After all, he had actually been able to tell her that he was deeply disappointed in her, and even spat in disgust—he was clearly on the verge of losing control.
If she failed to take some measures right now, this lapdog might completely break free from her leash.
Therefore, the most urgent task was to pacify Cao Kun immediately and then tighten the leash around his neck.
Otherwise, once this doormat managed to break away, that would truly mark the beginning of her nightmare.
At this thought, Wang Shanshan shoved the last piece of snack into her mouth and picked up her phone with a feeling of deep reluctance.
"I never would have expected that I, the proud Wang Shanshan, would one day stoop so low as to yield to Cao Kun, a mere lapdog."
"Bai Jing, this is all your fault, you brainless, stupid woman! If you weren't such a complete idiot, I would never have been pushed to this point!"
Wang Shanshan cursed resentfully a couple of times before finally dialing Cao Kun's number.
One ring!
Two rings!
Just as the phone had rung numerous times and Wang Shanshan was already preparing to give up, the call was finally answered.
"Hello... Shanshan, what's wrong?"
Hearing Cao Kun's voice coming through the phone, Wang Shanshan couldn't help but frown.
"Cao Kun, what are you up to?"
"Oh, I'm at an internet cafe," Cao Kun laughed. "I wasn't sleepy today, so I came out to play for a bit."
"Oh, an internet cafe," Wang Shanshan said.
"Hehe," Cao Kun let out an honest chuckle and proactively asked, "By the way, Shanshan, why haven't you gone to sleep yet? It's already one in the morning."
"How could I possibly sleep!" Wang Shanshan pouted, adopting a grieving tone. "My mom is even threatening to sever ties with me! By the way, where is my mom?"
"Oh, Aunt Bai... She and I parted ways a while ago. We aren't together right now, so I don't know where she went."
Oh?
Her mother wasn't with Cao Kun?
Hearing Cao Kun say this, Wang Shanshan instantly perked up, and her boldness grew along with it.
"Hey, Cao Kun, you tell me if I'm being reasonable. Tell me, isn't my mom a complete idiot? Seriously, I've never seen such a fool. She actually took everything we had at home and used it all in exchange for a statement of forgiveness."
"Hey, do you think she even has a brain? Saying she's a moron is an insult to the word moron; she's just a pure, unadulterated idiot, don't you agree!"
Seeing that Cao Kun didn't respond to her words on the other end, but only made a faint panting sound as if he was running, Wang Shanshan frowned with displeasure.
"Hello, Cao Kun, what are you doing? Are you even listening to what I'm saying?"
"Oh, listening, of course I'm listening," Cao Kun stammered slightly. "However, Shanshan, I think you're exaggerating a bit."
"Exaggerating?" Wang Shanshan's voice pitched up sharply. "She's already messed things up to this extent, how am I exaggerating? Calling her a total idiot is already being merciful."
"No, no, no," Cao Kun countered. "Shanshan, I don't think so. On the contrary, I think Aunt Bai did the right thing, and honestly, she's very loyal and affectionate."
"Just think about it: what did Aunt Bai use that money for? She didn't spend a single penny on herself; she used every last bit of it to save Uncle Wang."
"You have to remember, Aunt Bai and Uncle Wang were husband and wife, so they must have deep feelings for each other. Since they were husband and wife, how could Aunt Bai possibly bear to watch Uncle Wang die?"
"Besides, Shanshan, Uncle Wang is your father! What Aunt Bai did was to save someone close to us, not a stranger. If other people don't understand, fine, but how can you, his own daughter, fail to understand?"
"You forgot, you were the one crying and screaming that we had to save Uncle Wang in the first place. Now that everything has turned out the way you wanted, you can't turn around and shift the blame, accusing Aunt Bai of being in the wrong."
"Shanshan, I really think you owe Aunt Bai an apology. How about this, I'll arrange something for tomorrow, and you can properly apologize to Aunt Bai, alright?"
Hearing Cao Kun say this, the anger in Wang Shanshan's heart flared up fiercely.
Damn it!
Is this doormat Cao Kun actually trying to rebel?
He actually dares to lecture her on principles now? Was it really that hard for him to just go along with what she said?
Who asked him to lecture her on morality!
"No way!"
Wang Shanshan said angrily: "Cao Kun, you saw what she did and what she said today."
"She's the one who wants to sever mother-daughter ties with me; I am certainly not going to lower myself to go and apologize to her. Besides, she's the one who did wrong, so why should I apologize? She doesn't give a damn about me, and I don't give a damn about her either."
"Having a stupid idiot for a mother just makes me feel ashamed and humiliated. It's a good thing she wants to break off all relations with me—I'll gladly grant her wish!"
"Otherwise, she might actually think I want to maintain a mother-daughter relationship with a fool like her. Pah! She should go look in the mirror!"
"Cough... cough... cough..." Cao Kun hurriedly coughed three times and said solemnly, "Shanshan, stop talking nonsense. Even if you're in the heat of the moment, you can't just say things like that. Listen to what you're saying—if Aunt Bai were to hear this, how heartbroken would she be?"
"I care if she hears it," Wang Shanshan said fearlessly. "She can break her heart all she wants. After pulling such a stupid stunt, she deserves to be heartbroken to death. If she really dies, I'll drag her straight to the crematorium and scatter her ashes to the wind!"
"Alright, alright!" Cao Kun hurriedly interrupted, "Shanshan, just listen to the kind of language you're using right now! You're letting your anger get the better of you, let's talk tomorrow after you've calmed down. I still have over ten kilometers left, I need to keep running, I'm hanging up!"
"Beep... beep... beep..."
Staring at the phone that had just been hung up on her, Wang Shanshan opened her mouth as if she had more to say, but ultimately dismissed the thought of calling back.
Forget it, we'll talk tomorrow!
