Chapter One Hundred Eighteen: What?! A One-on-One Duel with a Horde of Zombies?!
"Qin Sheng..."
Shen Shi was momentarily at a loss for words. He had intended to urge Qin Sheng to hide, but as soon as his calm gaze met those crimson eyes, ripples stirred in his heart.
He could not quite describe the sensation—though fleeting, it was something he would never forget in his lifetime.
After a moment of stunned silence, the low, guttural growls of zombies reached his ears once more, signaling that the horde couldn’t be far.
"Qin Sheng! We have to leave," Shen Shi reminded her again, urging her to hurry.
Yet those eyes showed neither worry nor fear; Shen Shi even caught a glimpse of excitement within them.
It seemed Qin Sheng was eagerly anticipating the arrival of the zombie horde.
But Shen Shi could not let Qin Sheng go like this. When a zombie army attacks, few can escape the sheer numbers.
He could not allow Qin Sheng to risk herself so recklessly.
Resolving himself, Shen Shi reached out and seized Qin Sheng’s wrist, intending to drag her away.
But Qin Sheng remained rooted, unmoving.
Growing anxious, Shen Shi barely had time to speak further before, inexplicably, he found himself hurled away in a graceful arc.
Qin Sheng, as if transformed, grabbed Shen Shi’s shoulder and flung him aside.
Already frail, Shen Shi collided with a tree and fell heavily to the ground, coughing up blood that made his pale lips even more colorless.
He stared, incredulous. He was taller and heavier than Qin Sheng, yet she had tossed him effortlessly—something Shen Shi could not comprehend.
Wang Qiang, seeing Shen Shi thrown aside, immediately jumped down from the tree and rushed to help the wounded man to his feet.
"The zombie horde is almost here; we can't worry about Qin Sheng right now," Wang Qiang said, frowning as the growls drew closer, analyzing their options while supporting Shen Shi.
"Are we just going to leave her?" Shen Shi’s worried gaze never left Qin Sheng; being thrown aside meant nothing to him—his concern was entirely for her.
Wang Qiang glanced at Qin Sheng, pursed his lips, and answered, "Of course we won’t abandon her. But right now, it seems Qin Sheng doesn’t want to hide. Let’s wait and see."
Shen Shi had already seen in her eyes that she had no intention of fleeing; on the contrary, she was thrilled at the battle to come.
Still, he could not rest easy.
He cast a helpless glance at Qin Sheng’s back, sighed, and leapt deftly onto a tree branch once more.
For now, there was nothing to be done. If Qin Sheng truly desired this fight, perhaps they should let her have her way, staying ready to protect her should danger arise.
Wang Qiang thought the same.
Little Fatty, seeing only Qin Sheng standing beneath the tree while Wang Qiang and Shen Shi ignored her, was worried sick.
"Are we just going to let Qin Sheng face danger? She won’t get hurt, right?" he asked Wang Qiang repeatedly, hands clenched in anxiety as he watched Qin Sheng.
"Of course we won’t let her be in danger. But right now, Qin Sheng doesn’t want to hide," Wang Qiang relayed everything he’d discussed with Shen Shi.
Little Fatty’s eyes widened in astonishment at Qin Sheng’s refusal to retreat.
"What?! Qin Sheng doesn’t want to hide?" It was the first time he’d seen such a brave girl—wasn’t that a whole horde of zombies?
A single zombie was hard enough to deal with; a horde was certain death.
Yet Qin Sheng didn’t want to hide—she meant to face them head-on!
He admired her; Qin Sheng was truly courageous.
"Master, aren’t you going?"
Not far away, also perched in the tree, were Xun Feng and Song Qing’an, long unseen.
Xun Feng had always protected Qin Sheng from the shadows, and when the group was poisoned, he had returned to the Serendipity Shop to fetch Song Qing’an.
Song Qing’an, arms folded, leaned against the trunk, his gaze fixed on Qin Sheng, who still stood motionless, waiting for the zombie horde.
Those crimson eyes unsettled Song Qing’an, stirring an indescribable feeling within him.
"Let’s wait and see," he said softly, suppressing the elusive emotions in his heart as he looked once more at Qin Sheng.
Qin Sheng’s mind was clear, but her body was difficult to control.
She felt the power within her growing stronger, as if she couldn’t be at ease until she released it. That was why she declined Shen Shi’s invitation.
As for why she threw him—she simply couldn’t control her body.
It was as if the power was swallowing her, everything within her gradually becoming foreign, yet the remnants of reason kept her from harming Shen Shi.
If it were the old Qin Sheng, she would never have chosen to confront an unknown zombie horde. But the power demanded it, endlessly brainwashing her: she must kill everyone...
Qin Sheng rubbed her temples in discomfort, and as she lowered her hand, the zombie horde reached the camp, surrounding it and encircling her.
One by one, the zombies opened their jaws, drool spilling onto the ground.
They showed no interest in the already dead Foolish Beard and Zhang Dong—they were fixated on their imminent meal: Qin Sheng.
"Roar!"
One zombie, whose original appearance was unrecognizable, let out a loud howl, and four or five zombies lunged at Qin Sheng.
Those watching from the treetops felt a chill of fear for Qin Sheng.
But Qin Sheng moved like the wind, dodging the attacks in a flash, sliding to the Tang blade, grabbing it, and instantly severing the heads of the nearest two zombies without hesitation.
Zombie blood sprayed, splattering Qin Sheng.
Her eyes, already crimson, grew even redder and more excited in the wake of the blood.
She wiped the blood from her face, lips curling into a faint smile, and, reversing her grip on the Tang blade, charged into the horde.
Perhaps seeing their prey fight back, the zombies were enraged; from just one or two attacking, soon four or five surrounded Qin Sheng.
She fought with bloodshot eyes, the more zombies that came, the faster she wielded the Tang blade, so swift it left only afterimages.
Wherever the blade swept, blood spurted.
In just a few minutes, Qin Sheng had slain more than half of the zombies that attacked.
She seemed unfazed, twirling her Tang blade and staring down the remaining zombies, who now hesitated, afraid to approach.
"Oh my..."
"What am I seeing?"
Those who had worried for Qin Sheng from the trees now watched, stunned, afraid to blink lest they miss a moment.
Qin Sheng was single-handedly fighting a horde of nearly sixty zombies?!
And not just any horde, but the zombies of the Zombie Forest.
The zombies here were far fiercer than those wandering city streets; they didn’t hesitate to attack even forest bears, and the forest was littered with animal bones—the handiwork of these creatures.
Now, the zombies hesitating to approach Qin Sheng were the very ones at the top of the food chain, the ones even black bears couldn’t defeat!
They knew Qin Sheng was formidable, but they had never seen her like this. The spectators almost forgot they were hiding in trees, nearly bursting into applause.
"Roar!"
"Roar!"
The zombies seemed to adopt a new tactic, no longer attacking in small groups but all at once. Over twenty zombies rushed at the youth wielding the Tang blade, a grand and unbelievable sight.
A dark mass of zombies surged toward Qin Sheng, their enormous jaws agape, as if ready to devour her whole.
Shen Shi and Wang Qiang, witnessing this, involuntarily clenched their fists, prepared to leap from the treetops to rescue Qin Sheng.
But before the zombies could even touch her clothes, they were blasted away, their heads severed by the blade.
Qin Sheng was as swift as the wind; the Tang blade spun in her hand, and the nearest zombies lost their heads, collapsing lifelessly, only the severed heads rolling on the ground.
"Yuck!"
"Ugh!"
Those in the treetops could not bear the gruesome scene—blood and various unknown fluids mixed together, the stench unbearable, causing many to retch uncontrollably.
The remaining zombies, hearing the sounds from above and seeing Qin Sheng look their way, instinctively tried to retreat, but before they could take a step, the Tang blade sliced through the air behind them.
A moment later, more nameless heads lay on the ground.
The camp was littered with countless headless, bleeding corpses, the stench of blood overwhelming. The girl with the Tang blade was drenched in blood, exhaustion forcing her to thrust the blood-soaked blade into the earth for a brief respite.
Her crimson eyes showed no sign of retreat; the next moment, she swiftly turned her gaze toward the group hiding in the trees.
Her terrifying look made many in the trees shudder, unable to meet her gaze.
Qin Sheng said nothing, her eyes sweeping coldly over them.
Wang Qiang, seeing Qin Sheng unharmed, finally relaxed. He quickly jumped down and approached her, but before he could speak, a pale, icy hand clamped around his throat.
"Qin... Sheng..."
