Chapter 23: Trouble Strikes the Li Family
"An'an, Xiaoxiao will be fine. With the help of the War Division, we’ll find her soon," Mo Han comforted Li An'an as they walked out of the hall.
"Do you really think the War Division is willing to help us?" Li An'an looked at Mo Han skeptically.
"Yes, because they want me to help them. So, they have to help me first," Mo Han replied confidently.
"They want your help? With what? What can you do?" Li An'an stared at Mo Han in confusion. She’d been married to him for five years, and she believed she knew him well.
Mo Han was hardly capable—he often got criticized even as a security guard at the Li family company.
How could he be of any use to the War Division?
Mo Han thought for a moment and said, "I know martial arts. They want me to teach their apprentices."
"You—you—you really know martial arts? Like what we see on TV?" Li An'an was startled and asked curiously.
Mo Han nodded. "What you see on TV is mostly special effects. Beginner martial artists aren’t that exaggerated. But if you reach the pinnacle, you can do incredible things."
"Such feats are just legends, right? How could they exist in reality?" Li An'an shook her head.
Mo Han smiled quietly. If only she knew that in his previous life he was the Lord of the Netherworld, ruling over trillions of souls, with the ten Yama Kings as his subordinates—she would probably be terrified.
But he had no intention of telling Li An'an about these things now. Perhaps later, when the time was right.
Seeing Mo Han silent, Li An'an asked, "By the way, I saw many people from the Tan family... all dead. Was it you?"
"No, it was the War Division. Did you see that elder? That’s the Slayer Ding Si. Even those under his command are formidable. That elder just spoke up for me. When the Tan family tried to attack him, he dealt with them himself," Mo Han lied.
It was better not to let Li An'an know about the killings.
With her understanding, murder would be a crime, and the police would come to arrest him. That would only make her worry, or even do something foolish.
So he let Huang Zhanguo take the blame.
It wasn’t that he feared he couldn’t protect his family, but that he felt the less Li An'an knew, the less pressure she’d bear, and the happier she’d live.
Sure enough, after shifting the blame, Li An'an's expression eased considerably, indicating she accepted Mo Han's explanation and no longer worried about him.
Still, Li An'an was curious. The War Division was so powerful, yet they sought Mo Han to teach their disciples. Was his martial arts really that advanced?
Suddenly, she recalled how Mo Han had rushed onto the wedding stage and effortlessly lifted Tan Xiaorong. She nodded inwardly—ordinary people could never do what Mo Han did.
Clearly, his skills were exceptional.
"Since you’re so skilled, why have I never seen you practice or fight?" Li An'an asked.
"Martial arts are for self-defense and health. No one ever threatened our family’s safety, so there was no need," Mo Han replied with a gentle smile.
"That’s true," Li An'an nodded, then changed the subject anxiously, "I just hope the War Division really finds Xiaoxiao."
Mo Han nodded, reassuring her, "Don’t worry. They will. The War Division’s reach is vast; even if Tan Tailun grew wings or hid underground, they’d find him. Let’s just wait for news."
"Yes, that’s all we can do," Li An'an nodded.
At this point, they had no other options—only hope in the War Division.
After calling her parents, Li An'an and Mo Han returned home.
Once there, Li An'an changed clothes, while Mo Han sat on the sofa, considering whether to ask Li An'an to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to remarry.
According to the latest civil code, divorce applications required a one-month cooling-off period. Only after both parties insisted on divorce after a month would the procedures be finalized.
Right now, he and Li An'an were still within the cooling-off period. If they went and spoke, it would be lifted—they’d remain married.
But with their daughter still missing, he worried Li An'an might overthink, so he decided to wait a few days before bringing it up.
Li An'an finished changing, checked the time, and said, "It’s lunchtime. I’ll cook something."
Mo Han nodded; her cooking skills weren’t great. Meals were usually prepared by Li An'an and Xu Fang, while grocery shopping fell to him or his father-in-law Li Xiande.
Typically, they only ate breakfast and dinner at home.
Soon, Li An'an finished cooking, called her parents, and when they said they wouldn’t come back, she and Mo Han ate together.
For three days, Li An'an hadn’t eaten a proper meal. Though her daughter was still missing, today her burden felt lighter, and she ate three full bowls.
Just as they finished, her phone rang.
"Who is it?" Mo Han asked, noticing Li An'an’s face darken as she answered.
"Something happened at the company. Grandpa wants me to attend a meeting," Li An'an replied.
She really didn’t want to go. With her daughter still missing, she had no energy for work.
But her grandfather insisted, so she had no choice.
"What’s happened? Why must you go?" Mo Han asked.
"The new drug on the market has caused problems. Many people are showing signs of poisoning, and the pharmaceutical factory is surrounded," Li An'an explained.
Mo Han nodded, "I’ll go with you."
He sensed Li Zhentong had other motives. Asking Li An'an to attend now might not be just about the drug incident.
"No need. Just help me wash the dishes," Li An'an shook her head, rinsed her mouth in the kitchen, and left.
Mo Han had just chopped off two of her cousin’s fingers and forced her grandfather to transfer that hundred million. She didn’t want Mo Han to show up at the company or in front of her grandfather at this time.
Mo Han understood her thoughts. Though he knew Li An'an might face trouble, he respected her decision.
Besides, if Li Zhentong tried anything against his wife, he’d have plenty of chances to teach them another unforgettable lesson.
