“Godfather, sit down and have a drink, it’s really not a big deal.” Mo Han smiled unconcernedly, pulling Jiang Zhizhong to sit, then filled his glass again.

Jiang Yiran frowned and put down her chopsticks, clearly displeased.

Wang Qin, however, lashed out at Jiang Zhizhong. “Did you drink too much and lose your mind? What’s gotten into you? Xiao Jun only said the truth. As a man, if you abandon your dignity and live off someone else, it’s embarrassing. Gao Jun wasn’t wrong.”

Gao Jun smiled, completely disregarding Jiang Zhizhong’s threat. He had never cared about Jiang Zhizhong’s moods.

Mo Han, pouring himself some wine, glanced at Wang Qin without commenting, though he was inwardly critical. He thought, if you hadn’t forced me back then, would I have ever married into the Li family? If not for Wang Qin being his adoptive mother, who raised him for twelve years, he would have spoken up.

“Godfather, come, let’s drink together.” Mo Han raised his glass and drained it in one gulp.

Jiang Zhizhong, still uncomfortable, grunted heavily, raised his glass, and drank it all.

“If you don’t want to be mocked, you should find a job for yourself. If you don’t respect yourself, how can you expect others to respect you?” Jiang Yiran glanced at Mo Han and spoke indifferently.

Mo Han nodded without replying. In fact, he’d worked as a security guard at Li’s company before. The pay wasn’t high, just three thousand, but it was enough for his expenses. He even spent a thousand each month on groceries. He wasn’t exactly freeloading off the Li family.

“Gao Jun, arrange a job for him, so outsiders won’t say everyone from the Jiang family is useless,” Jiang Yiran said to Gao Jun.

“Xiao Jun, please help Xiao Han out. He’s had a tough few years,” Wang Qin added, looking at Gao Jun.

She didn’t look down on Mo Han; after all, she had raised him, and he’d earned thirty thousand for her. She genuinely hoped he’d have a better life.

“Well…” Gao Jun looked troubled. “My company only hires graduates and postgraduates from prestigious universities. He hasn’t even attended college—what could he possibly do at my company?”

“Xiao Jun, do me this favor, for Auntie’s sake. Xiao Han was raised by me. I don’t want him to always be mocked,” Wang Qin pleaded.

“Or maybe you could give him a job that doesn’t require a diploma, like a security guard,” Jiang Yiran suggested.

“That won’t work. Security guards must be retired soldiers, and he never served in the military, so that’s out of the question,” Gao Jun shook his head.

Seeing Gao Jun unwilling to help, Wang Qin fell silent.

But Gao Jun smiled and said, “How about this? My company needs someone to clean the women’s restroom. No diploma needed, very easy, two thousand a month. I’ll arrange it for him.”

As soon as he finished, Jiang Yiran said nothing further. She could hear the contempt behind Gao Jun’s words. Though she never liked Mo Han, he was still like a brother to her, so she couldn’t go too far.

“Keep that job for someone else—my Xiao Han doesn’t need it!” Jiang Zhizhong snorted, pouring himself another drink.

“There are all kinds of jobs out there, plenty of recruitment. It’s easy to find something, no need for anyone to arrange it. Come, let’s drink again!” Jiang Zhizhong raised his glass to Mo Han, then drained it.

Mo Han said nothing, nor did he drink, seemingly lost in thought.

Wang Qin asked, “Xiao Han, if nothing else works, just work at Xiao Jun’s company. In a second-tier city like ours, two thousand a month isn’t bad.”

“Huh? What are you talking about? I was thinking about something else just now.” Mo Han smiled apologetically, raised his glass in a toast to Jiang Zhizhong, and drank it in one gulp, as if he hadn’t heard the others.

Gao Jun and Jiang Yiran’s faces darkened, feeling as if Mo Han was mocking them.

“What’s wrong with you? We’re kindly arranging a job for you, trying to help you, so you won’t always live off the Li family and suffer their disdain. Yet you act as if we’re talking nonsense! Fine, since you don’t appreciate it, I’ll stop meddling!” Jiang Yiran snorted, ate her meal, and ignored Mo Han.

Mo Han shrugged—his adoptive sister was as stubborn as ever.

He had only come today to see Jiang Zhizhong, catch up, not to cause any discomfort for the family.

So no matter how Gao Jun ridiculed him, he pretended not to hear. Otherwise, he could easily slap Gao Jun and teach him a lesson.

Suddenly, there was the sound of a car braking outside. The group looked out the window to see a military vehicle. Several members of the War Department stepped out. The family was shocked and hurried outside to greet them.

A smile flickered in Mo Han’s eyes as he murmured, “They’ve finally arrived?”

He didn’t go out to greet them, instead picked up his chopsticks and slowly ate a piece of meat.

“Hello, we’re here to invite Mo Han, Chief Instructor,” Wu Yue said to Jiang Zhizhong, his commanding presence making even Gao Jun and the others struggle to breathe.

“To invite Mo Han?” Jiang Zhizhong was stunned, disbelief in his eyes.

Especially Gao Jun—he recognized the War Department insignia. This was a regional leader, a true big shot, someone even his father couldn’t easily meet. Yet they’d come for Mo Han?

The group entered and saw Mo Han calmly eating at the table. Gao Jun’s face lit up; he wanted to show off in front of the War Department leader. He barked, “Mo Han, you’re just a live-in son-in-law, how dare you stay seated and eat instead of greeting such an important guest?”

Jiang Yiran and Wang Qin frowned, clearly displeased, but said nothing.

Jiang Zhizhong was about to explain, when Wu Yue bowed respectfully to Mo Han, saying, “Chief Instructor, Elder Five says the candidates have been selected. When would you like them delivered?”

“What’s going on here?” Jiang Yiran and Wang Qin gasped. Even if they were slow, they could see the respect this War Department leader had for Mo Han.

Especially Gao Jun, whose face turned pale, his palms trembling.
