Chapter 46: Gains Amidst Losses
“By the way, Chief Instructor, the Chen family gave me a villa some time ago, but I never moved in. I’d like to give it to you as a token of my appreciation—please accept it,” Ding Si said, remembering that Li An’an’s family had already been driven out of their ancestral home.
He was originally from Qian City, though he’d been an orphan since childhood. After making a name for himself in the War Division, he hadn’t settled down or started a family. Still, whenever he had time, he liked to return to Qian City and walk its streets. He was considered a source of pride for the city, and whenever he returned, the prominent families who knew of him would vie for his favor, showering him with generous gifts. Those families that managed to establish even a slight connection with him prospered—such as the Tan, Chen, and Wu families—all powerful clans in Qian City.
Two years prior, when he returned, the Chen family had been especially extravagant, gifting him a luxury villa worth over a hundred million. He accepted it, but since he rarely came back, he had never actually moved in.
Mo Han paused in thought, then replied, “Very well, I’ll accept it. In a few days, I’ll refine a special elixir for you—it will help you break through to the rank of War God.”
He knew that Ding Si was currently at the mid-stage Mystic Tier, but to reach the late stage and become a War God would ordinarily require another five or six years of arduous cultivation. Yet with a single elixir, Mo Han could save him four or five years of effort.
“Thank you, Chief Instructor! I promise I’ll never let down your guidance!” Ding Si was visibly moved. There was no need to elaborate on Mo Han’s strength—even the Fifth Elder, an old monster in his own right, was no match for him. It was reasonable to assume Mo Han was at least on par with the Fifth Elder, and a single hint from such an invincible figure was worth decades of hard work.
Mo Han only nodded, saying nothing further.
Li An’an felt uneasy. She nudged Mo Han’s arm and whispered, “My parents still have over two hundred thousand saved up. Tomorrow, we can put down a deposit on a small apartment near the school. That’s enough for us.”
Mo Han smiled gently. “Don’t worry. He won’t be losing out.”
“Yes, exactly, sister-in-law! I won’t lose out at all, so don’t overthink it. If the Chief Instructor gives me even a little guidance, it’s worth more than ten years of my effort. Besides, I really have no use for that villa—it’s just been sitting empty,” Ding Si added hastily.
“You’re exaggerating,” Li An’an replied, unconvinced. She simply couldn’t understand how even if Mo Han taught Ding Si martial arts, it could be worth the price of a villa. If the villa had been a gift from the War Division, perhaps she could understand.
After all, Mo Han had trained a hundred elite warriors for the War Division, and with their resources, gifting a villa would be nothing. But this villa belonged to Ding Si personally.
“It’s not an exaggeration, not at all,” Ding Si said with a laugh. “Sister-in-law, you don’t understand. For those of us who practice martial arts, the greatest pursuit is constantly improving ourselves—cultivation is our very life. I’m already thirty, and I’ve been stuck at the mid-stage Mystic Tier for several years, unable to break through to the late stage and become a true War God. If I could succeed, I’d gladly give up every bit of my wealth.”
“Alright, I don’t really understand the way you martial artists think. Still... never mind. Our family owes you a great debt. If you ever need anything, just say the word. Mo Han and I won’t refuse if we can help,” Li An’an said after some thought.
“Thank you, sister-in-law. Then let me take you to see the villa now—you can move in today,” Ding Si said with relief. He truly wanted to give Mo Han the villa.
Mo Han nodded. Li An’an asked for the villa’s location and then called her parents, telling them to drive over.
Chen family’s villa for Ding Si was located in the Sky Peak Villa District. Despite its name, Sky Peak wasn’t especially tall, but the villa itself was perched near the summit, with a vast expanse of land and commanding views over all of Qian City—imposing, unrivaled. By price alone, it was worth at least fifty or sixty million; in terms of commercial value, it would be difficult to secure for less than seventy or eighty million.
The entire development was built for Qian City’s wealthy elite. The villa originally intended as a matrimonial home for the eldest Chen son, but the family felt it was more worthwhile to bestow it upon Ding Si.
The villa had been furnished for two or three years and was kept spotless by regular cleaning staff. The decor was lavish—Mo Han was very satisfied, while Li An’an was stunned by its opulence.
She could scarcely believe this villa would become their home.
“Chief Instructor, I’ll handle the transfer of the property to your name in the next couple of days and bring the deed over,” Ding Si said.
“Good,” Mo Han replied, then asked Li An’an to give her identification and documents to Ding Si so the villa could be transferred directly into her name.
Li An’an initially refused but eventually gave in to Mo Han’s insistence.
After Ding Si left, Li An’an eagerly began exploring the villa.
“This villa is worth at least several million—Mo Han, accepting such a lavish gift feels a bit improper,” she said worriedly.
“Don’t worry. The achievements I’ll help him reach in the future—he’d be willing to give us ten villas,” Mo Han replied with a smile. “Besides, he’s following me now, seeking to atone.”
“Alright,” Li An’an agreed. Though she didn’t understand all the intricacies, she trusted her husband.
Soon, Xu Fang arrived in Li An’an’s Volkswagen. When she and Li Xiande learned the villa was Ding Si’s gift to Mo Han, both were astonished. For them, it wasn’t just about the villa itself, but about the connections it represented. Ding Si was a War King, a god of slaughter on the battlefield, someone all the great families of Qian City fought to curry favor with. For both Mo Han and Li An’an, this connection was priceless. With Ding Si’s support, their family’s future would be secure.
Of course, they only knew who Ding Si was, not the true depth of his relationship with Mo Han.
After touring the villa, Xu Fang and Li Xiande were overjoyed and excited. It was a blessing born from misfortune. Though the Li family had treated them shamefully, they now realized that severing ties with the Li family might not be such a bad thing after all.
