0111: The Momentum of a Double-Sandwich Maneuver

When Xu Lin saw Ji Yun emerge, he was stunned for a moment, but he immediately realized one thing.
The secret he had been hiding—how had Chu Qingchan found out? Now it was certain: Class Monitor Ji had told her!
But why?
He had confessed to Ji Yun, but fundamentally, she had also been the one to express her feelings for him.
Had Ji Yun told Chu Qingchan so that Chu Qingchan would think he was a scumbag? Or was this the prelude to a catfight? The two of them had always gotten along well.
Was this what people called an asura field?
Good heavens, it seemed harmless enough in anime. What was there to be afraid of?
But now that it had happened to him, the two of them had not even begun their attack, and he was already buckling under the pressure!
Yet just as sweat poured from his body and he was so nervous he could barely stand it, Ji Yun stepped forward, grabbed Chu Qingchan’s arm, and revealed the same little devilish expression as Chu Fengyi.
“Xu Lin, look how scared you are. You know being a womanizer is wrong too, don’t you?”
“How am I a womanizer? I’m not!”
Xu Lin firmly rejected that accusation. It was impossible for him to be a womanizer. He was sincere toward every girl!
Xu Lin took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and slowly hauled himself to his feet while steadying himself against the sofa.
“Mr. Xu, don’t lie to me in the future. I’ll be keeping an eye on you every second!”
“Hold on, hold on. Big Star Chu, Class Monitor Ji, what exactly are you two up to?”
Xu Lin had finally realized that the relationship between the two girls was more than merely being close. Of course, it was a good thing that his two girls got along. It represented the first step toward harmony in his future harem.
“Come to think of it, you confessed to little sister Ji Yun, didn’t you?”
“No…” Xu Lin glanced at Ji Yun’s expression. “Did I or didn’t I?”
“Ji Yun already told me. You confessed to her?”
“I was only joking! She was the one who confessed to me!” Xu Lin blurted out. Ji Yun’s eyes immediately widened.
“What do you mean, I confessed to you? Are you saying you don’t like me anymore?”
“No, no! I like you. You’re my angel, my white moonlight. How could I not like you?”
“What about me?” Chu Qingchan asked as well.
Xu Lin pulled a bitter face, then abandoned all attempts at reasoning and shouted, “I like you too!”
“And what else?”
Chu Qingchan pouted, looking displeased. The normally aloof goddess now wore an adorably petulant expression.
“What else? What do you mean?”
“Like the angel and white moonlight stuff?”
“Uh… give me a moment to think.”
“You don’t need to think. Scumbag!”
Chu Qingchan kicked him in the shin, though her foot landed with less force than a mosquito bite.
“Scumbag!”
Ji Yun also raised her little fist and lightly punched him in the chest.
“All right, I admit it. I’m a womanizer! But I’m not a scumbag. I, Xu Lin, have never touched a single girl, nor have I ever officially entered into a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship with any of them!”
Xu Lin spoke with righteous conviction. The two girls pressed him back down onto the sofa, then sat on either side of him, trapping him between them.
“What are you two planning to do?”
“Tell us. Who likes you, and who do you like?”
“I like both of you. I want you both!”
“You want them all? Ten? Or eight? According to our investigator, Student Ji Yun, you should have other ambiguous relationships too. For example, Bai Xiaoxiao today.”

“Ji Yun?” Xu Lin glanced at her. Ji Yun turned her gaze aside.
However, seeing that both girls remained remarkably calm, Xu Lin secretly relaxed. It seemed there would be no asura field after all. The two of them appeared to have reached some kind of cooperation.
This was a good thing! His wives were working together—one more step toward a stable harem!
But he could not let that show. He had to stay calm. After all, they did not know that his enemies numbered far more than one or two—not even ten would be accurate.
If he scared them off and they ran away, where would he go to complain? That idiot system could not even provide a voice, and it was utterly useless.
“Don’t scare my Ji Yun. In any case, when Ji Yun was talking with her, she said that she liked you.”
“Senior Bai?” Xu Lin found it somewhat hard to believe. How could that shy, honest girl, who often stumbled over her words whenever she spoke to him, say something like that?
“It’s true, Sister Chu. I wouldn’t make a false report!”
“What exactly did she say?” Chu Qingchan looked at him again.
“I really don’t know. Bai Xiaoxiao and I truly only have the relationship of my having helped her twice.”
“But I’m someone you helped too.”
Chu Qingchan recalled how Xu Lin had allowed not a drop of rain to touch her, even though his clothes had been soaked through and he later developed a fever.
When she had been at her loneliest, he had sung to her, and in the end, kneeling before her, he had shown her that smile. The corners of her lips lifted unconsciously.
When Ji Yun had just told her that Xu Lin had confessed to her, Chu Qingchan had felt both unhappy and afraid.
If Ji Yun had accepted him then, would Chu Qingchan have been forced to leave the stage entirely? Would she truly have made up her mind to compete with Ji Yun for him?
But at this moment, seeing Xu Lin shamelessly declare that he wanted them both, she felt considerably more at ease.
Still, she had to ask what needed to be asked. She had to identify all of her potential rivals.
According to what Ji Yun had said earlier, when she asked Xu Lin that question, he had hesitated. That hesitation had certainly not been solely because of Ji Yun.
“There really isn’t anyone else. I’m completely devoted to both of you! Whom do you suspect?”
“What’s going on with Teacher Su? You went out to eat together, and you’ve exchanged quite a few meaningful glances, haven’t you?”
“Ji Yun, there’s something wrong with the way you put that. How did that become exchanging meaningful glances? Sister Qin, who was sitting beside me, even said that you and I were exchanging meaningful glances and that something seemed off.”
“Who was exchanging meaningful glances with you?”
“Ahem! What exactly is going on between you and Teacher Su?”
Chu Qingchan hurriedly interrupted the two of them. She patted Ji Yun on the shoulder and gave her a look.
‘Ji Yun, we’re interrogating him here. Is it really appropriate for you two to flirt right in front of me?’
Ji Yun secretly stuck out the tip of her tongue, then resumed her serious expression.
“At first, Teacher Su helped me when I had a fever. She took me to the infirmary and brought me home. She’s a very responsible teacher.”
“Later, the last time I cooked, I helped Teacher Su’s mother at the market. I remember I already told you about that.”
“That’s all?”
“That’s all.”
“Fine. Next.”
Ji Yun took out a notebook and wrote something in it. When Xu Lin tried to sneak a glance, she immediately snapped it shut.
“What about that dark-skinned girl? Who is she?”
“She’s a police officer.”

“A police officer? Xu Lin, you’re quite bold, aren’t you? No wonder I saw something in your study materials last time…”
“Ahem, there’s a child here.” Xu Lin hurriedly interrupted Chu Qingchan. He did not want the innocent Class Monitor Ji to learn about his particular tastes ahead of time.
“What are you talking about?”
“Nothing. When you’re older…I’ll teach you.”
“You? Teaching someone?” Xu Lin rolled his eyes at Chu Qingchan. It was not that he looked down on her, but his hidden collection contained plenty of good stuff!
“I’ve watched at least several thousand.”
“…”
Xu Lin sprang to his feet and bowed deeply to her. “I remain your junior. I concede.”
“Stop fooling around. Continue talking about the dark-skinned girl.”
“Don’t call her that. Her name is Qin Yunhe. She’s Teacher Su’s best friend. I was actually looking for her; Teacher Su only joined us for dinner later.”
“I see. What did you want with her?”
“It was business. I already told you about it, but if I tell you two about this matter…”
“Tell us!” the two girls shouted in unison.
Xu Lin felt a surge of delight. He had successfully changed the subject.
He then explained the matter involving Ma Zhiyu. Both girls frowned.
“In that case, why did you look for her instead of simply calling the police?”
“Putting everything else aside, if we report it, both Ma Zhiyu and his girlfriend will be arrested.”
“Even if Ma Zhiyu gets away without consequences, his girlfriend knowingly broke the law. She found out halfway through that this was a fraud ring.”
“So if you tell this Miss Qin, can she help?”
“She can arrange everything. She’s a professional, after all. She’s not even afraid of tigers.”
“Tigers? Right, you two were cornered by a tiger today, weren’t you?”
“It even made the news.”
Xu Lin took out his phone, only to find that his WeChat messages had exploded. He had never seen so many red notification dots before—more than ninety-nine!
“What the hell? What’s going on?”
He quickly tapped into the messages. They were not just from classmates and friends; even many older relatives he rarely spoke to had sent him messages. They all said more or less the same thing.
“Xu Lin, is that you on television?!”
“Xu Lin, you’re on TV!”
“Xu Lin, is that Chu Qingchan?! She’s beautiful!”
“Do you have an autograph from my darling Nuan Nuan?!”
Of course, there were also the simple messages:
“Holy crap! Xu Lin! You’re buying dinner!”
Every message included an image. They were all photographs, apparently taken of the television screen, and some were blurry.
But it was obvious enough: this was the commercial they had filmed. It was already on television?!
“Damn it, couldn’t the director have given me a heads-up? At least let me prepare myself mentally! Oh my god…school starts tomorrow…I’m going to have a social-anxiety meltdown! Can I take the day off?”
