Chapter 109: Someone from the Jiang Family!
“What?!”
Lin Tie’s words exploded like a bomb, reverberating through the crowd! Whether it was the nearby Lie Feifei and Geli, or Qin San of the Liu family, all wore expressions of utter shock and disbelief.
The gathering of two great beauties had attracted many passersby on the street. Those who had come to admire beauty and witness some drama were suddenly stunned by this earth-shattering news!
Lin Tie’s voice carried far and wide; many heard it, yet instinctively refused to believe it. Who was Meiya? She was a majestic peak Doulong ranked tenth! In fact, beneath the Dou King level, she was unmatched—how could anything possibly happen to her?
Who in Changling City now possessed the power to harm Meiya? Even common folk knew that even if the great families of the city united against the auction house, they wouldn’t stand a chance!
A mere twenty or thirty Douluo-level warriors were no match for a peak Doulong just one step below Dou King—that was the vast gap between ranks among the strong! And such disparities only grew more apparent the higher one ascended!
Everyone who heard the news instinctively disbelieved it at first. Su Yi was no exception. Yet suddenly, a scene from a few days ago flashed in his mind: Meiya’s gaze when she read that letter, an expression Su Yi had never seen before. Could this incident be related to the contents of that letter?
Gathering his composure, Su Yi stepped forward a few paces and asked Lin Tie gravely in a low voice, “What exactly happened?”
“Well…” Lin Tie lowered his voice perceptibly, sensing the tension around them. “I’m not entirely sure myself. A squad of people stormed into the auction house just now, and it seems… their target was Miss Meiya. The situation inside is chaotic; none of us know what exactly transpired…”
Hearing this, Su Yi frowned deeply. Someone actually dared to break into the auction house? Setting aside Meiya’s current intimidating presence, even the auction house itself was one of the most formidable forces in Changling City. Even the city’s strongest family, the Lie clan, wouldn’t dare act so brazenly. Who exactly was this group?
After a moment’s thought, Su Yi quietly asked, “Do you know who those people are?”
Lin Tie froze for a moment before his expression suddenly changed, his voice trembling slightly as he said, “I… I remember now. Their clothing bore an embroidered symbol on their chests… a character… ‘Jiang’.”
‘Jiang’? The Jiang family?! Could it really be members from the Jiang clan?!
Su Yi’s heart jolted, his face becoming extremely awkward. Even he had heard of the legendary Jiang family—among the empire’s three great clans, they were the foremost in power!
Compared to the other two great families, the Dongfang and the Yousiman, the Jiang clan was a cut above. Rumors said their influence had surged rapidly in recent years, even eclipsing the imperial royal family in prominence!
Moreover, the clan’s patriarch was the empire’s top-ranked powerhouse among the ten strongest—rumored to have stepped one foot into the Dou Di realm years ago!
Few knew his true present strength, but none doubted his status as the empire’s greatest warrior. With such a titan leading the Jiang family, few in the empire dared oppose them. Now they had targeted Meiya; what could be the reason?
The thought tightened Su Yi’s chest, urgency welling inside him. He disregarded greeting Lie Feifei and the others, grabbing Lin Tie’s arm as they hurried toward the auction house. “Let’s go back and see for ourselves.”
Su Yi’s grave expression, his words, and his hurried departure left those present unsettled—could it be that something truly happened? Lie Feifei rarely saw Su Yi like this and was taken aback. Geli and Qin San exchanged thoughtful looks; especially Qin San, who felt a stirring in his heart. If Meiya was truly in trouble, then what would become of Su Yi?
As Su Yi and Lin Tie disappeared into the distance, murmurs rose among the crowd.
“Hey, did you hear? Meiya’s in trouble!”
“That can’t be. You know what kind of strength Meiya possesses…”
“I didn’t believe it either, but did you see Su Yi’s face just now? Maybe there really is something going on…”
“Heh, if Meiya’s really in trouble, Su Yi’s days won’t be easy. He’s seriously offended the Jiang clan; they’ll definitely find a way to deal with him…”
Amid the crowd, Lie Tie’s cold gaze followed Su Yi’s retreating figure, a grim smile flickering on his icy face…
…
Su Yi hurried back to the auction house with Lin Tie. As they reached the entrance, his steps abruptly halted. Outside the gate stood dozens of soldiers exuding a cold, killing aura. They were lined up straight and orderly, each gripping a long spear whose sharp tips gleamed with a chilling light.
Seeing these clearly well-trained soldiers, Su Yi’s pupils contracted slightly. He knew the Jiang family’s vast power partly came from holding significant military authority in the empire. These soldiers were undoubtedly Jiang clan troops—a branch under their command.
Using his soul force briefly to sense them, Su Yi was surprised to find that these soldiers were all formidable fighters, averaging at sixth or seventh-level Douluo strength!
Though not exceptional, in the empire’s army such cultivators were rare. Most soldiers were ordinary humans; few became Dou Qi cultivators. Rumors said the famed Douluo Legion was even smaller, suggesting these fighters were among the elite of the elite.
From Su Yi’s perspective, these battle-hardened soldiers were no weaklings—their combat skills and experience were forged in blood and fire, not merely for show.
If a sixth-level Douluo soldier fought against a fully recovered seventh-level Douluo like Aoben Yu, Su Yi reckoned the survivor might very well not be Aoben Yu.
With such capable soldiers present, those who came for Meiya were unlikely to be weaklings. Tension gripped Su Yi’s heart. His gaze shifted, and he noticed a luxurious carriage nearby. Its cabin was exquisitely crafted and imposing—obviously not owned by an ordinary family.
The curtain, made of some shimmering silk fabric, glowed faintly, drawing attention. Several wind chimes hung by the side, and a delicate fragrance suggested it was intended for a lady.
As Su Yi observed, Lin Tie’s low voice sounded behind him: “Su Yi, what should we do now?”
Su Yi glanced sideways at Lin Tie, who looked anxious as he stared at the soldiers, likely unsettled by their murderous aura. If these soldiers attacked en masse, Su Yi knew it would be difficult to handle.
“Don’t do anything unnecessary for now. I’ll go in first and check the situation.”
Without waiting for a reply, Su Yi stepped toward the auction house. At the gate, two spears suddenly flashed and crossed before him, blocking his path with a sharp “shh.” A stern voice whispered in his ear, “Who are you?!”
Caught off guard, Su Yi glanced sideways to see that the usual auction house guards had been replaced by two unfamiliar soldiers. The original guards stood at a distance, faces filled with suppressed anger.
One of these guards hurried over and said to the soldiers, “Brother, he’s from the auction house—not a suspicious person…”
“From the auction house?”
The soldier snorted, eyes scanning Su Yi but detecting no Dou Qi. His tone grew rude. “Everyone from the auction house should be working now. How can he stroll back from the street so leisurely? Your auction house has no discipline! People without a sense of time and order should have been kicked out long ago!”
Su Yi was momentarily speechless. Indeed, he had been idle lately, doing little work inside the auction house, wandering about at will, feeling somewhat aimless himself.
He didn’t argue but smiled lightly and asked, “If I’m from the auction house, can I enter then?”
“Enter? Sorry, Captain Lou’s handling affairs inside. No unauthorized persons allowed!” The other soldier said coldly.
Su Yi frowned and glanced around. Indeed, the vicinity of the auction house was deserted; any onlookers had long been driven away by these soldiers.
“But I’m not an unauthorized person. I live inside the auction house. Am I not allowed to enter?” Su Yi exhaled slowly and asked.
“Enough nonsense! I said you can’t enter. Do you understand?!” The soldier snapped impatiently.
Su Yi’s face darkened. Although the soldiers were from the powerful Jiang family, and he preferred to avoid conflict if possible, Meiya’s uncertain situation left no time for delays. The Lie family was tough, but Meiya was the priority. Time was of the essence!
“Then how can I get inside?” Su Yi fixed his gaze on them, enunciating each word clearly.
The soldier’s face flushed with anger at Su Yi’s stubbornness but then broke into a sly grin. “Fine, if you can defeat the two of us in a single move, maybe we’ll let you in…”
Ignoring the taunt, Su Yi studied them closely, his expression shifting slightly as he muttered to himself—
“Two tenth-level Douluo?”
