After breakfast, Wang Luo slung the wooden box over his shoulder and made his way to the Mercenary Guild. By this time, the guild hall was already crowded, but no one paid much attention to the boy—children came here to play and gawk every day, after all.

The Mercenary Guild was divided into three sections: the task desk, the task submission desk, and the registration office for adventurers and mercenary groups. Wang Luo headed straight for the registration office; it was completely empty.

“Hello, I’d like to register as an adventurer!” he said, standing before the window and addressing a young woman of about twenty, engrossed in her book. She gave no response, eyes fixed on the pages. Wang Luo repeated himself, but she still ignored him.

Thump, thump—

After trying once more and still being ignored, Wang Luo grew frustrated. He rose on tiptoe and knocked twice near the girl, finally drawing her attention.

“What are you banging for? Can’t you see I’m reading, you brat?” The girl turned, her sweet features twisted in irritation, and snapped at him, her voice echoing across the hall like a lion’s roar.

Her outburst silenced the entire guild for a split second. Everyone but the girl herself paused, looked at Wang Luo with a hint of pity, then returned to their business—though many eyes lingered on the scene, clearly expecting some entertainment.

“Heh, who’s this clueless kid? Doesn’t he know Miss Anveil doesn’t do registrations in the morning?”

“With her temper, she’ll definitely teach him a lesson. I wonder how she’ll toy with him?”

“Either way, this is going to be fun!”

Wang Luo listened to the whispers and glanced at the girl before him, whose name was as sweet as her appearance. He didn’t care for any of it—anyone who dared call herself “old lady” in front of Wang Luo was courting death.

As scenes flashed through his mind, a murderous aura surged from Wang Luo. “You court death!” he growled.

His voice, low and laced with killing intent, swept through the hall like a chill wind from hell, reaching every ear. Once more, everyone fell silent, staring at Wang Luo in disbelief. Could such a dense killing aura really emanate from a mere child?

Before his words had fully faded, Wang Luo leapt onto the registration counter. His hands became claws, and without hesitation he lunged for the girl’s throat. She froze for a moment, but when she saw the strike coming, she reacted instantly, snatching up a slender sword from the desk.

The sword flashed blue as it slashed at Wang Luo’s hand. His palm glowed with a bloody light as it met the blade, resulting in a sharp bang. Wang Luo was sent flying back to the floor, while the girl staggered against the wall behind her, her cheeks flushed—clearly, she’d been caught off guard and slightly wounded in the exchange.

“Who are you? What grudge do you have against me? Why would you try to kill me the moment we meet?” the girl demanded, frowning at Wang Luo, whose face was still full of murderous rage. Inside, however, she was tumultuous—who was this boy? So young, yet with strength no less than a sixth-rank fighter, and such an overwhelming killing aura…

Upon hearing her words, Wang Luo froze, and silently questioned himself: Was it really just because she called herself “old lady”? Hadn’t he decided to start anew? Wasn’t he planning to live this life in peace? The more he thought, the more chaotic his mind became; his eyes reddened, and suddenly a fierce wind struck him from behind. His vision went black and he lost consciousness. A stern-faced, steely-eyed man appeared in the stunned crowd.

The man was about to approach Wang Luo when, all of a sudden, three furious roars erupted from the wooden box at Wang Luo’s back. With a deafening bang, the box exploded. A blood-red giant wolf, more than three meters tall, and a black panther, over two meters high, sprang out and stood guard over Wang Luo.

A cute little white lion leapt onto Wang Luo’s body, whimpering anxiously. The blood wolf and black panther issued a warning growl at the man. He regarded the two beasts with a strange look, scrutinizing them. The others stared, dumbfounded by this sudden turn of events.

After exchanging a glance, the black panther gave a low growl, and the blood wolf gently picked up Wang Luo, laying him across its back. The white lion hopped up too, steadying Wang Luo. Only then did the crowd realize there was a third companion.

The blood wolf and black panther, growling low, retreated toward the guild entrance. No one dared stand in their way—not even the man. In moments, the boy and his three beasts vanished from sight.

Having spent time with Wang Luo, listening to his rambling stories, the two beasts had grown much wiser. Upon leaving the guild, they made the wise decision to head straight for the city gates.

Occasionally, some foolhardy humans tried to block their path. The black panther would unleash a black orb; the unlucky soul would scream and dissolve into a puddle of sludge, the panther’s seventh-rank power on full display.

The blood wolf, shrouded in a mist of blood, shielded Wang Luo and the white lion from harm. The two beasts chose not to massacre, but simply barreled toward the gates, ignoring fireballs, wind blades, and arrows that came from who knew where, forcing their way through without pause.

“Could these be the protagonists from that incident in Lawell Town not long ago?”

“Has to be. How many mutated blood wolves are there?”

“Even if they’re not the trio from Lawell Town, with so many people here, who wouldn’t want to kill these two beasts? They’re worth a fortune!”

Among the crowd, some who hadn’t gotten involved whispered to each other, watching the beasts draw ever closer to the gates. Suddenly, someone shouted, and those blinded by greed truly began to block their way.

Red-glowing fireballs, razor-sharp wind blades, and spikes erupted from the ground—countless spells and battle qi surged toward the trio, magic in the air turning chaotic.

Just then, a figure in black appeared in the sky. The little white lion, sensing the newcomer through the blood mist, gazed up.

The figure in black let out a cold snort. All the spells and battle qi hurtling toward the trio exploded in midair with a deafening roar. Those closest didn’t even have time to scream before they were reduced to dust.

The crowd stared in horror at the figure in the sky, instinctively backing away from the beasts. The blood wolf and black panther didn’t hesitate; they charged for the gates, the crowd parting before them. They quickly raced out of Nicholas City and vanished from sight. The figure in black likewise disappeared without warning.
