Chapter 72: The Transfer Student
“Wang Luo, I heard that a new student is joining our class this afternoon. Is that true?”
It was lunchtime, and as soon as Wang Luo returned to the dormitory, Priel asked about the teacher's announcement regarding a transfer student joining their class later that day.
“A new student really is transferring to our class? But I thought the Fallen Academy never accepts transfers. Isn’t there a fixed enrollment period every year, and anyone who misses it is out of luck?”
Seeing Wang Luo nod, Abigail looked at him in surprise, which earned her a look of disdain and a lecture from Priel. Wang Luo, standing by, could only sigh—connections and backdoor deals seemed to exist everywhere.
“Wang Luo, when I was cultivating last night, I smelled something strange!”
As they chatted, Priel suddenly changed the topic, giving Wang Luo a meaningful look and glancing sidelong at Cairo, whose expression shifted subtly.
“A strange smell? What kind of smell? I didn’t notice anything, but I did hear some odd sounds last night!”
Hearing Abigail’s guileless voice, Priel’s smile deepened, and her expression toward Cairo grew even more suggestive.
“Hey, Wang Luo, did you notice anything strange last night?”
“I did meet someone with a peculiar odor!”
“Really? Where did you meet them? There’s someone at our academy with a strange smell, and I’ve never heard of it before. Cairo, have you?”
Intrigued by Priel and Wang Luo’s conversation, Abigail eagerly interjected, and whether by accident or design, ended with a question for Cairo.
“You guys—”
“Hahaha…”
Seeing Cairo’s frustrated and embarrassed expression, the three of them burst out laughing, only stopping when Cairo’s face shifted through several shades before settling into calm.
“Hmph, what’s so funny? So I fired off a magic cannon, big deal. Priel, Abigail, can you honestly say you two haven’t fired off magic cannons in the past few days?”
At this, Priel and Abigail went stiff, then immediately exploded into a noisy argument with Cairo, their quarrel growing more heated by the minute.
“Firing the magic cannon, huh…”
Reflecting for a moment, Wang Luo quickly caught on to the meaning of “firing the magic cannon,” and couldn’t help but chuckle. He didn’t have the habit of eavesdropping at walls, usually focusing solely on cultivation each night. If he hadn’t run into Cairo last night and smelled that unusual scent, he would never have guessed that children on the Sky Profound Continent matured so early.
“You eavesdropped on me firing my magic cannon!”
“My ears are sharp, what can I do? It’s not like I meant to listen!”
“Priel practices wind magic; it’s easiest for her to eavesdrop!”
“And Cairo cultivates fire energy—he’s the first to sense any heat!”
…
Watching the three of them bicker, the topic soon shifted back to magic and battle energy. Wang Luo knew a duel was inevitable. Since they still had class that afternoon, he didn’t want to get roped in as referee, so he hurriedly interrupted.
“All right, all right, you three are geniuses of the Fallen Academy. How can you argue over something so trivial? So someone overheard someone else firing up the… uh, the magic cannon. Next time, let’s set a time and have a competition—see whose magic cannon is the most powerful. How about that?”
“Great idea!”
“I’m in!”
The moment Wang Luo suggested it, Priel and Abigail shouted their approval, the three of them immediately huddling together to discuss the details of a magic cannon competition. Cairo’s face twisted through several emotions before he turned away—though his ears still betrayed his interest in their plans.
“Wang Luo, how do you know so much? Let’s talk more about the contest tonight after class!”
In one corner of the classroom, Priel, Abigail, and Cairo all gathered around Wang Luo, looking at him with undisguised admiration. Today, Wang Luo had certainly opened their eyes.
“You two lechers, you should learn from Cairo—sit up straight and act with the dignity of nobles, understood? The teacher’s coming! Sit up, everyone!”
After giving Priel and Abigail a quick smack on the head, Wang Luo immediately straightened his posture. At that moment, Teacher Geda walked in, casting a glance at Wang Luo as he entered.
“Ahem.”
With a light cough, the already quiet classroom fell into absolute silence. Only then did Teacher Geda speak.
“We have a new student joining our class today. Come in.”
“Wow, she’s beautiful!”
“A goddess!”
“Is a celestial maiden descending upon the Sky Profound Continent?”
As a delicate and graceful figure entered, the classroom, which had just fallen silent, exploded into a cacophony of whispers and exclamations. A faint smile touched Teacher Geda’s lips as he observed the scene from the podium.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Mire. From now on, I’ll be your classmate. Please take care of me. Thank you!”
Her melodious voice rang out, and the entire class involuntarily fell silent, listening intently as her gentle words caressed their ears.
“Mire, find yourself a seat.”
“Yes, Teacher.”
As Mire walked slowly into the classroom, every student—boy and girl alike—waved eagerly, hoping she would choose the seat beside them.
But even as Mire passed them by, none of them felt any resentment; it seemed perfectly natural that she would not sit with them. If she did, they feared they might somehow sully her presence.
Her light footsteps echoed in the hushed classroom as everyone gazed at her graceful silhouette, as if transported into a pure and innocent fairy tale.
As Mire—perhaps more accurately, Keir—approached him, Wang Luo’s expression grew increasingly complex. The enchanting figure from last night’s dream flashed unbidden through his mind, and a restless urge stirred in his body.
Suddenly, an odd sound broke the silence. Wang Luo, who had been struggling with himself, snapped back to reality and, like everyone else, turned to look for the source. Unlike the others, who reacted with disdain or anger, Wang Luo’s eyes were full of gratitude.
“I didn’t mean to! It’s just that Wang Luo treated us to lunch today, and I ate too much. I couldn’t help it—I just… passed gas!”
Abigail stood up, red-faced and flustered, stammering an apology to Mire and inwardly berating herself for embarrassing herself so badly in front of such beauty.
A soft laugh rang out, brightening everyone’s spirits. Quite a few of the more lascivious boys even began to drool, lost in their fantasies.
“You have a lovely laugh. Why don’t you sit here with me?”
Abigail scratched her head sheepishly, inviting Mire to sit beside her, completely ignoring the murderous glares from around the room and looking at Mire with hopeful eyes.
“Abigail, you just farted—how can you offer your seat? You sit here yourself.”
Wang Luo pulled Abigail back into her seat, drawing astonished looks from all around, including three pairs of burning, inescapable eyes.
“Your name’s Abigail, right? That’s a beautiful name. I’m Mire—may I take the seat next to you?”
“Ah…”
