Chapter Sixty-Four: Aunt Catherine
Song Yue was momentarily stunned, then took a serious look at her.
Xueya asked in confusion, "Why are you staring at me?"
Song Yue replied, "Much better looking than you!"
Xueya was speechless.
She suddenly regretted cooking for this annoying fellow. She had merely asked out of curiosity, yet his reply was so rude—too much!
Even when Song Yue thanked her after finishing his meal, she had no desire to speak to him. This guy really had no sense of how to talk to people.
After eating, Song Yue stepped out of the house. The air outside was fresh, the surroundings elegant, and the garden was filled with a riot of colorful flowers vying for attention, breathtakingly beautiful.
He noticed that the location was somewhat secluded. If one didn’t deliberately come here, no one would notice that a youthful face from the East had appeared in the household.
He saw Catherine bent over, busy in the garden.
Fertilizing, watering, pruning… The entire garden, whether daily maintenance or pest prevention, she handled alone.
Those in the town who admired Catherine probably never dreamed that the graceful, gentle lady they adored was not only a powerful demon, but also an exceptional master of fire.
"You're awake?" Catherine’s young and beautiful face broke into a pleased smile when she saw Song Yue. She straightened up and waved him over. "Come, let's have a chat."
Song Yue approached, asking, "Do you need any help?"
Catherine waved her hand. "No need, I like doing these things myself."
She pointed to a small wooden bench in the garden. "Sit down, child."
Once Song Yue was seated, Catherine said, "I've already sent word to your master that you're safe. He cares for you deeply; he almost came here himself. But our identities are special, and travel requires reporting—it’s quite troublesome..."
Catherine spoke to Song Yue casually, like an elder to a younger family member, a bit nagging, yet warm.
She told him that those who wanted to catch him came from an underground organization called the Three-Headed Dragon, founded over a century ago by three powerful Westerners.
"They’re not exactly infamous, but their reputation isn’t stellar either. The organization operates with a certain principle: if they encounter an unbeatable adversary, they’ll retreat, abandon the pursuit, and won’t provoke any further trouble afterwards."
Catherine pruned the flowers with elegance, her tone gentle. "It’s precisely this rule that has allowed them to survive several near-catastrophic disasters and persist to this day."
Song Yue thought for a moment, then asked, "So, even after suffering such a huge loss, they won’t seek revenge later?"
Catherine nodded. "Yes, unless something very unexpected happens, that’s how it should be."
She clipped off a section of flower, held it in her hand, and looked at Song Yue. "So you don’t need to worry too much about retaliation from that group."
Song Yue said, "Honestly, I think they’re the ones who should be worried."
Catherine paused, then smiled and nodded. "You have a point. I’ve become... too relaxed, too detached from the world. There’s little fire left in me, my temper has softened..."
Song Yue glanced at her, thinking that when she set people ablaze, she certainly didn’t seem gentle.
Catherine said, "By the way, news just came in: a high-ranking member of the Three-Headed Dragon, after being suspended, had his entire family slaughtered by enemies."
Song Yue raised his eyebrows. "Is it related to me?"
Catherine replied, "According to my sources, that person issued the order. But because the Three-Headed Dragon suffered heavy losses, he had to bear the leadership responsibility."
"When they're in power, their authority is immense—a single word can decide many lives. Nearly every high-ranking member of the Three-Headed Dragon has a host of enemies."
"Once they lose the organization’s protection, their situation becomes extremely dangerous."
"Also, I’ve found some vague clues—all pointing to a man named Richard. Coincidentally, he recently received members of the Ou family from Tianyu Star, who have a grievance with you from the secret realm..."
Song Yue was surprised, unable to help but admire Catherine. She had uncovered so much in such a short time.
It was indeed the Ou family behind it all!
This matched his previous suspicions.
"But as someone who's been through it, I don’t suggest you let hatred weigh too heavily on your heart. Keep it in mind, but don’t let it affect your life, nor let it cloud your soul."
"You’re a young man of remarkable talent, with a bright future ahead. Never let these matters distract you."
Catherine set aside her work and spoke earnestly to Song Yue, "That’s also what your master wishes to tell you. Young people inevitably encounter setbacks and blows. He didn’t follow you around like a nanny because he believes you’re capable of facing storms alone."
Song Yue vaguely sensed that Catherine’s words weren’t merely about letting go of immediate hatred—there seemed to be deeper meaning.
Was she referring to the Master?
That wouldn’t do!
Whoever hurt my master, I’ll deal with them!
Not even the King of Heaven could change that.
He thought this to himself, but none of it showed on his face. He nodded sincerely.
Then he asked, "Aunt Lin, are you... also a warrior?"
Catherine laughed. "If I weren’t, wouldn’t your question be rather presumptuous? Matters of warriors shouldn’t be casually mentioned to others, because they don’t belong to the ordinary world."
Song Yue asked, "So, are you?"
Catherine was silent for a moment, then gently nodded. "Yes."
"But I won’t tell you about your master’s past. Even if you’re a warrior too, child, just walk your own path! Don’t let the previous generation’s affairs affect you."
She added.
So her earlier words did have a hidden meaning.
"I’m not asking about that. I just want to know, do you also have a Heaven-Piercing Tablet?" Song Yue asked.
"You mean that... Yes," Catherine looked at him. "Every warrior gains a Heaven-Piercing Tablet through some opportunity—it’s the prerequisite for becoming a warrior and entering the battlefield."
"I want to know, how do you usually use the Heaven-Piercing Tablet to communicate? I’ve seen people chatting inside it with spiritual energy, like a group chat on social media..." Song Yue asked earnestly.
"You want to know about that?" Catherine smiled. "It’s quite simple; I can teach you."
"Thank you, Aunt Lin!" Song Yue looked obedient and polite.
He then asked, "Also, can you communicate privately with it, or is it only visible to everyone in the group chat? If I say something, will others know who I am?"
Catherine shook her head with a smile. "No private communication; as long as you use the Heaven-Piercing Tablet to make contact, everyone inside can see it. But if you don’t reveal your identity, no one will know who you are."
Song Yue breathed a sigh of relief. "So, if I use it to curse someone, it’s actually quite secret—as long as I don’t say who I am, right?"
Catherine looked at him curiously, finding his train of thought a bit puzzling, but nodded. "That’s right."
Song Yue said, "Got it!"
Xueya sat at the door pouting, watching the two in the garden chatting happily, wondering why that awkward fellow was so well-behaved in front of her aunt.
She had thought her aunt was meeting a lover, but it turned out she was saving someone.
That guy had stirred up powerful enemies in the secret realm—ran in, got chased like a rabbit, yet luck was on his side and he escaped.
Even after leaving the secret realm, those people still wouldn’t let him go, continuing their pursuit. She couldn’t imagine how someone so young could provoke such terrifying foes.
After chatting with Catherine for a while, Song Yue expressed his urgency to return and asked if she had a way.
"Don’t you need to recover from your injuries first?"
"I’m sorry, Aunt Lin, I must hurry back; there's much to take care of." Facing the beautiful Western woman who had saved him at a crucial moment and might have some connection to his master, Song Yue was courteous and polite.
"Let me think of a solution for you..."
Catherine actually had another idea—she hoped her niece Xueya could spend more time with the Master’s apprentice.
Such a fine young man!
Tall and handsome!
Most importantly, his talent was extraordinary, so young yet already possessing such outstanding strength. His future was boundless.
She had admired that man for years but never dared to confess. When she finally summoned the courage and went east, she saw a stunning Eastern woman by his side.
From that day on, she never set foot in Eastern China again, keeping her feelings deeply hidden.
Years had passed, and now she met that man’s apprentice, whom she immediately liked.
But she knew young people nowadays don’t like forced matchmaking. She hoped the two would be drawn together naturally, wanting to keep Song Yue a few days longer.
However, she noticed her niece seemed angry at the young man, sitting at the door sulking, while the young man didn’t seem interested in her either.
What a pity!
Such a wonderful child!
She took out her phone, made a call, and after a brief conversation, told Song Yue, "It’s arranged; someone will come to pick you up soon."
Song Yue smiled at once. "Thank you, Aunt Lin!"
"No need to be so formal with me," Catherine smiled. "My niece Xueya is also an excellent girl. Later, you two should exchange contacts and keep in touch."
Song Yue nodded with a smile.
...
Sitting in the departing car, he could still see Catherine and her niece standing by the roadside, Catherine waving.
Song Yue withdrew his gaze, keeping the favor in his heart.
He had no interest in the little witch, but Aunt Catherine was truly a good person.
Not as good as his Master’s wife, but still very good!
The driver was a very talkative young fat man.
About thirty years old, over six feet tall, and weighing more than two hundred pounds.
He had a kindly face and was very courteous to Song Yue.
"I heard you’ve made some enemies? Our boss told me to personally get you to the plane, so don’t worry—while I’m here, nothing can’t be solved!"
"Thank you. Do you know Richard?" Song Yue asked.
"Richard? The current Secretary of the Western Alliance rotating chairman? Sure, I know him. That guy’s got plenty of influence. Brother, the people you’ve offended... don’t tell me it’s that guy?"
The fat man laughed carelessly as he drove. "He’s clever and powerful, but timid. Smart people are usually timid. Take me, for example—I’m so timid I won’t walk alone at night!"
"He lives in Nia City?" Song Yue asked.
"Yes, he’s got plenty of businesses there. But we won’t go to Nia City; we’re headed to another city’s airport. Relax, that’s our turf!" The fat man boasted.
Song Yue had thought about finding Richard for a talk, but decided against it.
It wasn’t Catherine’s words that changed his mind; he already knew who was behind the attempt on his life.
He wasn’t strong enough yet to be too forceful. When he had enough confidence, both the Three-Headed Dragon and Richard, as well as the Ou family of Tianyu Star, would be properly dealt with.
For now, the priority was getting home safely.
His phone had been bombarded with messages these past few days.
From Lin Huan, Wenrou, Xiao Meng, Xiao Qi, Brother Qian... all asking how he was and when he’d return.
Song Yue sat in the car, composing a message, and sent it to them all:
I’m fine—coming back soon.
