Chapter 131: Justice Online
In the minds of most children, no matter how intense a fight may be or how badly people get hurt, adults generally tend to punish both sides equally, rarely bothering to investigate the deeper reasons behind the conflict.
Chen Fan’s parents were the more open-minded sort; after clarifying the situation, they didn't blame him but instead offered comfort.
"So, can you not deduct my meal allowance?" Chen Fan’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
"That won't do. Just think of it as losing weight. It’s not good to let your figure go to pot at such a young age; it’s very easy to develop a beer belly when you're older," Chen’s father said with a smile. He lived a very health-conscious life and didn't look at all like someone struggling with a mid-life crisis.
After briefly settling the aftermath, the two left with peace of mind. Chen Fan followed them all the way to the door and watched them depart.
"A knight, naturally, hides his merits and fame."
"Heh, that was indeed well-hidden—the moment the matter was resolved, you popped right back out." Chen Fan was talking to himself, or more accurately, to the knight residing within his body.
"Elder, is there no way to suppress this guy? One punch and he wiped out three months of my meal money." Chen Fan sighed and hurried back to his dormitory to hide.
The Elder suggested with a mischievous grin, "Why not try a part-time job? Maybe an underground boxer?"
*Bang!*
Chen Fan locked the door and even tossed the key into a crack in the corner. He finally let out a sigh of relief.
"Trying to trick me again? Last time you fooled me into performing on the street, and I ended up famous across the whole city. Now you want me to go boxing? The 'Knight' state isn't stable; what if I get knocked out cold?"
The Elder corrected him, "When your magical energy is normal, you can initiate the Knight state voluntarily."
"Forget it, just forget it. I just want to get through today in peace. I’m terrified that if I throw another punch, I’ll be living in poverty until my senior year. A knight fears no poverty, only acting for the sake of justice—ugh, there it is again. What kind of nonsense am I spouting? The truth of justice must never be questioned."
Chen Fan couldn't help himself and slapped his own face twice. "Shut your mouth, shut your mouth. Justice will not yield, evil must perish."
*Rip.*
With no other options, Chen Fan used transparent tape to seal his mouth, layering it three times thick. Now, he was completely unable to make a sound.
"Hmph-hmph!"
Chen Fan hummed through his nose, expressing his victory.
"Is self-torture really the best way to handle this?" the Elder remarked, sounding somewhat speechless.
Enforcing justice requires a target, after all. Right now, Chen Fan was holed up in his dorm, going nowhere, and no one could do anything to him. His feet certainly couldn't command his brain to walk, or at least, that was how Chen Fan convinced himself.
"Hahaha, the headline about those 'dog-people' has been snatched again." Chen Fan laughed until he was out of breath and accidentally choked. With his mouth taped shut, even coughing was difficult.
"Ptooey! Ptooey! Damn it."
Chen Fan’s face turned bright red. After tearing off the tape, he finally managed to catch his breath. For now, the knight within seemed to have quieted down and wasn't doing anything stupid.
[Five-day countdown to the Wolf King Championship. Renowned top-tier players like JY and Shentu will also participate.]
Chen Fan read the headline on the UC homepage and couldn't help but stop his wandering gaze. In previous years, the Wolf King Championship was usually a brawl between grassroots experts, with very few streamers making an appearance. He hadn't expected the official big-name stars to come out in full force this year. Chen Fan checked the list; almost every Werewolf gaming streamer was participating.
"Oh my, the skill level has jumped up several tiers all at once," Chen Fan remarked with a sigh, but he quickly realized another problem.
"Oh man, I still have to meet the boss. With a bunch of experts standing in my way, how am I supposed to raise my ranking?" At this thought, Chen Fan’s composure nearly collapsed.
He checked the tournament format. His final hope of leaping to success through the Wolf King Championship was shattered. Based on his current win rate and match history, he would have to win the final match as a third-party faction just to meet the minimum threshold.
What did that mean? It meant Chen Fan had to deceive everyone in a final round packed with experts.
However, Chen Fan didn't think that far ahead; he was still calculating how to survive the three rounds of the preliminary heats.
"With a bit of luck, maybe... I can just coast through," Chen Fan concluded. "That’s the only way. One step at a time. Justice, it is calling me."
"Hmm?"
The little voice of justice inside Chen Fan’s heart was back online. Fortunately, it was just a shout, with no physical action following it.
"Time to eat, time to eat. It should be fine to run out for ten minutes, right?" Chen Fan shifted his body and rolled off the bed.
He had to suffer the consequences himself. It took Chen Fan nearly ten minutes just to retrieve the key; there was so much dust on it that it could have been considered an archaeological discovery.
The cafeteria was at the corner downstairs, less than 50 meters away in a straight line. Chen Fan shuffled along in his slippers, head bowed, thinking about what to eat.
"Should I get the pineapple chicken fried rice? Or the sweet and sour pork rib rice?" Chen Fan rested his chin on his hand, his slippers making a *flap-flap* sound.
"Huh? Where is this? Where’s the cafeteria?"
Before Chen Fan could figure out what was happening, the light around him suddenly dimmed. The sky had turned dark quite rapidly, leaving not even a trace of sunset. Streetlights flickered to life, and the familiar path beneath his feet seemed to have been secretly replaced in his subconscious.
"So? What is this?"
Chen Fan looked around, trying to get his bearings. In three short, unconscious minutes, he had been led to a small path outside the school.
"It seems the Knight has gotten smarter and learned to control your subconscious," the Elder remarked with a compliment, though it clearly wasn't directed at Chen Fan.
Chen Fan was first stunned, then turned terrified. "This guy is already fighting me for control of my brain? This is truly terrifying. I must focus, I must not be distracted."
"Justice, it is calling me."
Chen Fan tried to coordinate his limbs, struggling to turn around and head back toward the cafeteria. But the Knight was ultimately a step ahead and seized control of his body. Chen Fan began to sprint in a near-charge, heading toward an unknown destination.
"Oh my god, I’m wearing slippers! Do we have to run this fast? My feet hurt!" He said this to himself and to the Knight, but the other side showed no signs of slowing down.
...
"Is this all you wanted to say by calling me here today?" Yu Miao crossed her arms, her tone dripping with disdain.
Seeing that the girl wasn't as gentle as she used to be, Wang Kehan refused to give up. "We’ve been together for so long; don’t you understand my sincerity?"
Yu Miao said coldly, "I can certainly feel your 'sincerity' when it comes to money. Think about the last few years—how much have you borrowed from me? At least fifty or sixty thousand, to say the least. I used to wonder why a high school student would need so much money, but thinking about it now, it’s just laughable. There is no future for us."
"Can’t you even consider the years of affection we’ve had?" Wang Kehan pleaded, tears welling up in the corners of his eyes.
"You don't need to pay back the money you borrowed. From now on, we go our separate ways. I don't owe you anything, and that’s that. I don't want to say anything more." Yu Miao turned and walked away calmly.
"You've changed. You weren't like this before."
Yu Miao stopped and the corners of her mouth curled up slightly. "I like this change. It feels quite good. Don't you have a few other 'meal tickets'? That should be enough for your daily expenses."
Yu Miao waved goodbye with her back to him, leaving behind a silhouette that felt unreachable. Wang Kehan stared at the girl who was now a complete stranger, his fists clenched tight. "You bitch, I’m already drowning in debt anyway. If I’m going down, I’m taking you with me."
With that, Wang Kehan pulled out a folding knife from his waistband, his eyes burning with rage.
"Justice Judgment!"
A sorrowful cry rang out from behind them. Wang Kehan hesitated for a moment before slowly turning around. A few steps away, a blurry figure leaped into the air, extending a righteous iron fist.
