Chapter 160 The Marginalized Prophet
"How did I end up dying..."
Player 9 was slightly stunned, first glancing at 10, then sweeping their gaze across everyone at the table.
"A civilian goes down. Speaking of which, why didn't the Witch save me? Keeping up with the tempo is going to be tough. Good luck, villagers, and lean heavily on 12 the Seer."
"Proceed with the speeches in order."
Player 12, having secured the sheriff's badge, frowned slightly and naturally left the guaranteed innocent check for the closing vote position.
Player 1 analytical stated, "Player 9 is dead. Unfortunately, we aren't speaking in the order of the deceased's neighbors. Let's talk about the pre-meeting phase first. Player 2's speech did not pass muster for me, and they also threw two soft probes at me and player 3. You need to explain what that mention of a 'guaranteed werewolf check' meant later, and now I'm throwing a probe back at you. As a civilian, I have nothing to fear."
Player 2 had drifted through the pre-meeting phase and by now had undoubtedly become a focal card. They defended themselves, "That earlier phrase was a slip of the tongue. What I actually meant was that if someone in a later position counter-claimed and issued a werewolf check, the momentum would be stronger than simply giving a guaranteed innocent check to someone below the badge."
After clearing up the misunderstanding, Player 2 counter-attacked, "You, Player 6, keep latching onto this point to step on me, and your own suspicion remains uncleansed. I'm focusing my criticism on you. There's only one true Seer this game; just listen carefully to the real Seer's vote aggregation."
Player 3 remained unimpressed, mocking, "Even if it was a slip of the tongue, the fact that people caught you on that phrasing is indisputable. Your explanation doesn't convince me. In my view, you are a card that sponges status, and you didn't even claim your role just now. So in my eyes, you are merely a plain civilian card or worse."
"The Seer found a guaranteed innocent, so this round has to come down to an open push-out. Your speech was poor, Player 2, your logic was chaotic, and you have no role. You deserve to be considered for elimination."
Player 3's speaking position was not particularly favorable, with many people yet to speak behind them, so they could only say, "Although Player 1 was also quite phoning it in, your priority is higher, Player 2. Let's hear what God JY and the Seer have to say. Villager card, passing."
Player 4 followed up on Player 3's remarks with a similar line of argument, generally echoing the minor critique of Player 2 while expressing a focus on the speeches of JY and the Seer.
"None of you just addressed the scenario where Player 7 JY mentioned the Seer being terrorized. In my eyes, the only cards that currently qualify as potential Seers are 6, 7, and 10."
Player 5 scratched his head. At first glance, the situation looked exceptionally bright: only a single civilian was dead, and the wolf pack was still cowering below without jumping, their coordination plans with the Nightmare still a mystery. Yet, he simply felt uneasy.
Was this Werewolf Killer syndrome? Everything had to have its ups and downs; running too smoothly just makes you stiff-necked.
"If any of you three—6, 7, or 10—want to claim Seer at this point, I'm willing to listen further. This situation can't possibly be this stable, can it? Strange..."
Chen Fan glanced at Player 5. It seemed he wasn't the only one feeling anxious.
"I also think the Seer might have been forced into hiding. Voting out 2 is fine; this round has to be an open push. Player 1's status needs to be redefined—they might be mutual-status padding with Player 2. Player 10 hasn't spoken yet, but there's an overwhelming probability they are a genuine innocent check."
"If it's a cowardly wolf pack, the Nightmare probably can't gather any useful information right now anyway. With everyone claiming all sorts of things this round, aside from locking down the Seer's inspection results, the Nightmare doesn't seem to have any other purpose."
"Finally, out of sheer habit, I retain a trace of skepticism toward Sheriff 12 in principle."
Chen Fan spoke with absolute confidence. After all, he wouldn't have his gun sealed tonight, and a Hunter ready to step up and enforce justice had nothing to fear.
JY withdrew his gaze, gathered his thoughts, and said, "Player 6 talked at length, and both their logic and state of mind were quite solid. I can recognize them as good. Player 2's explanations all the way down to this round have been very forced; there's a high probability they are a wolf card."
"Then, if we frame Player 2 as a wolf, who would be Player 2's wolf teammate?" JY made a psychic pointing gesture, preparing to map out the wolf den.
"It's in the bag, it's in the bag! It looks like God JY is a good guy on our side."
Chen Fan suppressed his excitement. This was an unwritten rule within the circle: as long as JY successfully called out all four wolves in the first round, JY was guaranteed to be a good guy.
"Assuming Player 12 is the true Seer, Player 8 is locked into the wolf den. Players 1 and 2 are likely mutual-status padding. If Player 9 wasn't a wolf who self-stabbed, then the final wolf must be Player 3."
JY explained further, "Don't get me wrong, the wolf den I mapped out might not be entirely correct, and don't try to eliminate me just because I put you in the wolf den. I'm merely entertaining a possibility. To state the conclusion first: we push out 2 this round and look at the kill pattern tomorrow."
"Now, looking at the scenario where Player 12 is not the true Seer: if the real Seer has to stay hidden and won't jump, we're out of options. Then the four wolves are 1, 2, 8, and 12, or 2, 8, 9, and 12."
"Why do I put Player 8 in the wolf den in both scenarios? Because everyone else ahead has been in a great state. Player 8, if your speech just now fails to move me, you are guaranteed a one-way ticket out."
JY kindly warned, "Do not try to bail Player 2 out later, Player 8, because you won't be able to lift them up—unless you can claim a powerful god role. But the moment you reveal your status, you'll have to worry about whether people suspect you, and you might even clash with someone else. I happen to be holding a shiny hidden card here, so you'd better tread carefully."
Finally, JY addressed the Sheriff: "Sheriff, barring any accidents, you'll likely be terrorized tonight. Coordinate the work of the Guard and the Witch: the Guard protects, the Witch saves an external target, and combined with the Sheriff's badge, we should be able to deduce the identities of at least three people. I recommend inspecting cards 4 and 5 first."
"This is only my first speech, and suddenly I'm branded as a locked wolf. I feel a bit wronged," Player 8 rubbed their neck, carrying a hint of spoiled, haughty emotion.
"I never thought about saving Player 2. I am a civilian card or better, but I feel Player 1's suspicion is also very high. Players 1 and 2 can be eliminated in order. Let's push 1 today, and have the Witch poison 2 tonight—or vice versa, the order doesn't really matter anyway."
"I briefly lost track of who claimed civilian or better, who claimed a powerful god, and who claimed a plain civilian just now. In my impression, everyone certified each other as good, leaving only Player 2 being heavily stepped on by you all, and Player 1 under severe suspicion. Anyway, the elimination won't land on me; I'll listen to the Sheriff's vote aggregation."
Uncle Player 10 smiled slightly, the corners of his mouth twitching as if he wanted to say something, yet holding back.
He took a deep breath before speaking, "Pushing 2 is still the stable play. Player 2's wolf face is larger than Player 1's. The Witch should consider for herself whether to toss out a poison tonight."
"You're all talents. The speeches were quite good, and so are the plays." Uncle Player 10 revealed a meaningful smile.
"Oh my, is no one going to care about me, this guaranteed innocent? You might not believe it when I say it, but I am a powerful god card," Player 11 grinned and said, "Still sticking to that flag: if I don't get eliminated within three days, I'll automatically reveal my status. If you want to come at me, please bring out an equally powerful god card."
Chen Fan thought to himself, isn't that catchphrase exclusive to the Hunter? But he didn't pay it any mind for the moment; better to vote Player 2 out first.
Sheriff Player 12 was practically being sidelined. With the majority leaning toward eliminating Player 2, he had no choice but to follow the popular will.
"Push 2. Tonight we still inspect 1; 4 and 5 can wait another day. Just as Player 7 said, the Guard protects me, and the Witch saves someone externally."
"The Sheriff calls to vote out Player 2." Player 12 reluctantly held up two fingers.
