Chapter 26: Encounter, the Plot of Revenge

The night was as dark as ink, silently spreading over the winding country road. In the midst of this shadowy darkness, a figure suddenly appeared like a ghost—it was Li Scarface.
His gaze was sharp as a torch, fixed intently on the two figures walking side by side ahead—Li Chao and Liu Dan.
At that moment, his expression was so grim it seemed it could drip water, a raging fire burning deep within his heart.
“Heh, seems the heavens have eyes! To think I’d catch you shameless pair in the dead of night!”
Li Scarface cursed through clenched teeth, his lowered voice dripping with resentment and fury.
He glared hard, as if trying to pierce the night and see every flicker of expression on their faces.
Alertly, he scanned the surroundings, sensitive to the slightest movement in the grass or the whisper of the wind.
He thought bitterly to himself:
“Those two… Could it be they were up to something filthy in the woods just now? To think they always act so virtuous in public, but behind closed doors they’re utterly shameless!”
“How ridiculous! I, Li Scarface, am a man of standing in this village—who wouldn’t give me face? And yet Liu Dan chose that useless wretch Li Chao!”
Contempt and scorn twisted his features, jealousy and unwillingness thick in his tone.
“Bah! That shameless pair makes me sick!”
Others standing nearby jeered along, their desires for Liu Dan burning like wildfire, but in the end, it was Li Chao, the nobody, who gained her favor.
That sense of loss and frustration grew ever more intense under the influence of alcohol.
“Scarface, are we really just going to let what happened yesterday slide?” one of his followers asked, hatred burning in his eyes.
Li Scarface shot him a fierce glare and shook his head helplessly.
“What else can we do? Ever since Li Chao recovered from that illness, he’s like a different person—like he’s been possessed by some demon! We can’t lay a finger on him anymore!”
Just as Li Scarface was about to give up, another man sidled closer and whispered conspiratorially, “Scarface, even if we can’t take him ourselves, there’s no need to fight to the death. We can bring in outside help!”
“Outside help?” A flicker of suspicion flashed through Scarface’s dull eyes, but soon was replaced by a rekindled fire.
“That’s right—outside help!”
He pressed eagerly for details, as if already seeing the dawn of his vengeance.
“Where would we find the right sort of help?” he demanded.
“I have a cousin in the county who’s doing quite well—and he’s close with Xie Long.”

“As long as we show some sincerity and offer decent compensation, Xie Long himself will deal with Li Chao for us. What’s there to worry about?”
The man grinned triumphantly, as if already savoring the sight of Li Chao being thoroughly thrashed.
Li Scarface’s eyes flashed with a savage gleam; he knew well Xie Long’s influence in the county was not to be underestimated.
If they could convince Xie Long to intervene, then even wings wouldn’t help Li Chao escape this time.
He drew a deep breath, his chest heaving as he struggled to calm the storm within. The flames of anger and resentment raged in his heart, but he forced them down with all his might. He knew this was no time for recklessness; he needed to remain cool-headed and plot a flawless plan before making his move.
“Good! That’s how we’ll do it!”
He slapped his thigh with a crisp smack, a vengeful glint in his eyes.
This time, he would not only reclaim his lost dignity but ensure Li Chao and Liu Dan paid a heavy price for their actions.
Xie Long—a name as imposing as the man himself, exuding strength and authority.
He was like a fierce tiger lurking in the mountains, inspiring awe in all who heard his name.
In Shiyuan County, Xie Long’s reputation pressed down on every villager’s heart like a heavy stone.
Especially for small-time village thugs like Li Scarface, Xie Long was the stuff of nightmares.
Late at night, when the moonlight poured through the window, Li Scarface would toss and turn in bed, unable to sleep, haunted by Xie Long’s hawk-like gaze and ruthless features—a chill creeping up from his very soul.
He could almost feel Xie Long’s overwhelming presence, poised to emerge from the darkness and devour him whole.
But tonight, amidst the mingled fear and awe, a faint but hopeful light pierced Li Scarface’s heart.
Someone discreetly revealed a secret: Xie Long had a particular weakness—he was infatuated with voluptuous, soft-bodied married women.
And in their village, there just happened to be two stunning beauties—Liu Dan and Yuxin. Their alluring figures would doubtless catch Xie Long’s eye.
Li Scarface’s heart grew restless; he felt as if he could see the dawn of a new fate.
He spun wild fantasies—if he could present Liu Dan or Yuxin to Xie Long, might the man take him under his wing?
Perhaps Xie Long would make him a trusted follower! Then, he would rise overnight, becoming the most envied man in the village.
Excitement made him tremble all over; he could hardly wait to act.
He hurriedly summoned his brothers to the dilapidated thatched hut to discuss the plan.
Everyone chimed in, agreeing this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
One man said:

“Xie Long has been drooling over Liu Dan and Yuxin for ages! If we help him get what he wants, he’ll reward us handsomely!”
Li Scarface was elated, as if he could already see the light of victory.
They plotted meticulously, determined to leave nothing to chance, and began dreaming of Xie Long leading his men into the village, avenging them and punishing those who had once bullied them.
Just as they were lost in these sweet dreams, a shocking rumor reached their ears—Xie Long, their idolized leader, had been beaten up by a young man named Li Chao!
The news hit them like a thunderclap, leaving them dizzy with disbelief.
Li Scarface stared in astonishment, mumbling, “Can this be true? How could it be?”
The rumor spread through the village like wildfire, causing an uproar.
Their hero had been defeated by a mere youth!
It was almost impossible to accept.
Meanwhile, Li Chao and Liu Dan made their way back to the village. When they reached Liu Dan’s door, she suddenly stopped, lowered her voice, and said to Li Chao:
“Chao, I always keep my word. If you ever want me, just say so—I’ll always be by your side.”
Her sudden confession struck Li Chao like lightning; he froze, unable to respond.
Liu Dan laughed softly, gave his shoulder a gentle pat, and chided him playfully:
“Look at you, all flustered! I’m just teasing. But you really are an exceptional young man, you know—you’ll go far someday.”
With that, she turned and slipped into her house, leaving Li Chao standing at her door, his thoughts in turmoil.
Back in his own yard, Li Chao’s heart was as turbulent as the sea, unable to find peace.
Ever since he had acquired the mysterious white tower, his life had been turned upside down.
His strength had soared, and even his luck with women had become exceptional.
This string of changes filled him with both delight and helplessness, for he had never cared for entanglements or trouble.
Life was always full of unexpected surprises and upheavals.
For Li Chao, the road ahead was still long—he would have to keep moving forward, ready to face whatever challenges and opportunities lay ahead.
