Chapter 4: A Woman of Grace, Enchanting and Gentle
Li Chao, the iron man of the village, revealed a resilience and courage today unlike any he had shown before. Confronted by Li Mazi's taunts and provocations, he stood unflinching, like a lion in the wild—proud, upright, and indomitable.
As Li Mazi's arrogant figure receded into the distance, vanishing at the edge of the village, Yu Xin finally awoke from her anxious daze, shaken from tension and fear. She rushed toward Li Chao, her gaze sweeping over him as if to check for any injuries. Her concern and anxiety were unmistakable.
"Chao, your leg—it's healed?" Yu Xin's voice brimmed with delight, as if a long-lost relative had suddenly recovered from illness. Li Chao smiled faintly, nodded, and replied with simple determination, "Healed."
Yet as he spoke, his expression shifted, an odd look crossing his face, as though something difficult to confess weighed on him. After hesitating, he stammered, "Um... Sister-in-law, your clothes..."
The summer sun shone bright and scorching, illuminating everything. Yu Xin's dress, already thin as gauze, had been torn and battered by Li Mazi's rough hands. Li Chao, taller than Yu Xin, looked down, and the rips were all the more evident in the sunlight. The garment seemed to have lost its power to conceal, and the dazzling whiteness beneath peeked out, as if ready to leap into view at any moment.
Li Chao's eyes were drawn irresistibly to that sight, as if a fire burned in his throat, making it impossible to look away. Yu Xin, too, noticed the extent of her torn clothing. She glanced down and her cheeks blossomed with a crimson blush; she hurriedly wrapped her arms around her chest, desperate to cover herself. Yet, in doing so, the fullness of her curves seemed even more pronounced, like turbulent waves crashing ashore.
Her face was now redder than a ripe apple, and she bashfully lowered her head, unwilling to meet Li Chao's eyes. Li Chao himself was mortified, feeling as though the heat in his gaze scorched him, a warm rush flooding his nose. He quickly averted his eyes, not daring another glance at Yu Xin.
Afraid he might lose composure, he struggled to restrain himself. "I'm just glad your health is restored," she managed, striving to steady her voice, though the trembling undertone betrayed her nervousness. "I'll head back now," Yu Xin's voice echoed through the room, tinged with barely hidden panic. "I'll come see you tomorrow," she added.
Her heart pounded so fiercely it threatened to burst from her chest. Clutching herself, cheeks flushed, she turned and ran hurriedly outside. Her rounded hips swayed under the tight dress with each hurried step, like a ripened peach glistening under the summer sun—its allure captivating, drawing Li Chao's gaze back for another lingering moment.
Once Yu Xin's figure vanished beyond the doorway, the room fell silent. Li Chao sat alone at the edge of the bed, his heart churning tumultuously. He gulped down three bowls of cold water, attempting to quench the fire burning inside him. The chill soothed him, but the heat persisted stubbornly, like wild grass that refuses to be extinguished.
He could only smile bitterly to himself. Yu Xin was truly blessed with such beauty. Her voluptuous figure, seductive demeanor, and flustered expression all tested his self-control to the utmost.
Settling back onto the bed, Li Chao massaged his legs and closed his eyes, pondering the events that had transpired. As a village doctor, he understood the mysteries of the human body and pathology. By all logic, his miraculous recovery should have been impossible, let alone his newfound strength. In the past, he could never have bested a brute like Li Mazi, but today he had easily driven him away. The transformation baffled him.
Lost in thought, he sensed something new within his mind—a blur of images and fragments of memory, seemingly connected to his body, yet hinting at a force from another world. Whenever he tried to probe these fragments, dizziness and pain overcame him. He dared not dig deeper, choosing instead to bury his doubts for now.
Li Chao was aware that all these changes were both strange and mysterious. He knew he must tread carefully, lest he invite unnecessary trouble. At the same time, he began to contemplate how to wield this newfound power to protect himself and those he cared about.
As night deepened, Li Chao tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. He sensed that his life had been irrevocably transformed. In his confusion, a blinding white light suddenly burst forth from the depths of his mind, illuminating the abysses of his consciousness like the first rays of dawn.
He focused intently, only to see the white light morph into a towering six-story pagoda. Its body was pristine as jade, radiating a gentle luminescence. Every inch of its stones was engraved with countless tiny golden runes, shimmering like stars in the night sky—mysterious and profound.
The pagoda stood sacred and solemn, as if it possessed its own life and soul, quietly exuding an aura of awe. Though its shape differed somewhat from the ancient tower toppled in the mountain behind the village, Li Chao recognized it instantly. He was filled with bewilderment—how could the ancient tower that once stood atop the mountain suddenly appear within his mind? Was this some miracle, or a twist of fate?
Yet Li Chao was not one to be paralyzed by fear or confusion. Drawing a deep breath to steady himself, he resolved to investigate the secrets of this mysterious tower. Guiding his consciousness, he approached the pagoda step by step.
Nearer, he noticed a small door left ajar at the tower's base. He pushed it gently, and the door creaked open with a distant, lingering sound. Li Chao stepped inside. The spacious chamber was solemn and empty. At its center stood a table of purple sandalwood, upon which rested two ancient volumes.
One was titled "Stellar Body Refining Technique." The other, "Xuan Heaven Medical Canon." Their covers were tinged with faded yellow, radiating the sense of time's passage.
Curious, Li Chao reached out to touch the volumes. The instant his fingers brushed the pages, both books dissolved into radiant gold light, like meteors streaking across the night sky, and merged into his body.
A mighty energy surged through him, enveloping and nourishing his entire being. In that moment, Li Chao knew his destiny would be forever altered by the mysterious pagoda. He resolved to delve deeper into its secrets, seeking the path for his future.
