Chapter 20: The Seven-Million-Dollar King of the Towers
Just as Lin Mi was about to study the model display on her own, a young real estate agent approached her, a gentle smile on his face.
"Hello, are you here to look at the apartments? Is there anything you'd like to know?"
This agent’s manner was warm and respectful, free from any trace of condescension, making him seem much more approachable and kind than the one she had met earlier.
Lin Mi gave a slight smile, relieved to finally encounter someone normal.
She pointed to several of the larger units on the display. "I’d like to know more about these."
"Of course," he replied.
The young agent began a detailed introduction, patiently explaining the layout, orientation, and surrounding amenities of each unit. Even when Lin Mi asked about the amount required for a deposit or the options for down payment, he showed no sign of doubt or impatience, simply offering her professional advice on choosing based on her own circumstances.
"Miss, is there a particular layout you prefer? I can take you for a tour if you’d like."
Lin Mi pointed to one of the largest units. "I’d like to see this one."
Among all the options, she was most satisfied with the penthouse—a grand unit on the 22nd floor, with only two apartments per floor, nearly three hundred square meters, featuring panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, designed in a simple European wooden style.
What attracted her most was the 22nd floor: no neighbors above, spacious and quiet, and, most importantly, the penthouse included the rooftop terrace.
It was like buying a huge single-floor apartment, with an additional sky terrace of over one hundred and fifty square meters.
How wonderful!
She could design the terrace to her liking: half would become a small garden filled with her favorite flowers, the other half a relaxation area.
She could host barbecues, enjoy afternoon tea, and gaze at the stars in the evening—how perfect!
This was truly the home of her dreams!
Before the young agent could respond, a mocking laugh sounded from nearby.
"This is hilarious! Young women these days are so vain, bragging without even considering the occasion. That’s our tower’s crown jewel—the total price in cash is seven million. Even if she went with a down payment and a loan, she’d still need more than two million up front. Do you think she’s just putting on a show for the cameras? Maybe there’s a hidden camera crew nearby?"
The older saleswoman from earlier was now ridiculing her to a colleague. She’d been selling houses for seven or eight years and had seen all kinds of wealthy clients.
Their sales office was in a wealthy district—perhaps not the most prestigious developer in the city, but certainly among the top three.
Units like this were rare; the entire complex had only six, two of which were already sold and four remaining.
There was no shortage of wealthy people in the city, but even they wouldn’t casually spend over seven million in cash on a home.
And now, a young woman barely in her twenties was claiming she wanted to buy their most exclusive apartment? It had to be a joke.
She concluded the girl was just putting on an act. So many young women these days wanted to become famous online.
Hearing this, Lin Mi glanced at her coolly, her gaze icy.
"Sister Zhang, you’ve gone too far. Haven’t you heard Manager Zhang’s repeated instructions?" the young agent reminded her, unable to stay silent. Their manager often warned them at meetings never to judge a client by appearances and to treat everyone equally.
What’s more, though the young woman before them seemed young, her calm and composed demeanor suggested confidence and substance.
If it were him, he certainly wouldn’t be so steady without good reason.
"We can talk as we please. We didn’t name any names. If she wants to answer, that’s up to her," Sister Zhang replied impatiently.
Meanwhile, Lin Mi quietly took out her phone, intending to transfer all the money from her system wallet to her bank account.
This apartment was simply too perfect; she didn’t want to miss out, nor did she want to be saddled with a monthly mortgage. She currently had over eighteen million—paying in full would barely make a dent in her savings.
But just as she was about to make the transfer, a sudden thought struck her.
"How much is the deposit?" she asked abruptly.
"Excuse me?" The young agent, still arguing with his senior, was momentarily taken aback.
Did she truly intend to buy the apartment?
Lin Mi didn’t waste words. "I want the V06 unit. Can I pay the deposit today and come back to settle the rest tomorrow?"
The idea had just occurred to her.
It wasn’t that she was reluctant to part with seven million; the lavishly furnished apartment with the sky garden was more than worth it. But to hand over such a sum in one go—it felt like a waste.
Her system wallet could multiply tenfold overnight—if she left the money there for just one more night, how much more could she gain?
Even with a two million deposit, there’d still be over sixteen million left. By the next day, that would mean...
The string of numbers in her mind made her suck in a breath.
Over one hundred and sixty million!
She only needed to leave the money in the system account one more night. If she withdrew seven million now, she’d lose out on over fifty million in growth the next day.
That kind of money would be enough to buy seven more apartments like this one.
The thought of losing fifty million in a single night made her wince.
By tomorrow, with over one hundred and sixty million, seven million would be nothing—she could pay in full without a second thought.
"Miss, are you sure you want to buy this apartment?" the young agent asked again, regaining his composure.
Lin Mi nodded. "Please bring the contract right away."
"Of course, please have a seat over here." The young agent beamed with delight, never expecting such an extraordinary surprise today.
And to think he’d gotten this deal after Sister Zhang, who was notorious for making things difficult for newcomers, had let it slip away—he was even more pleased.
Hmph, serves her right!
Sister Zhang was utterly stunned.
"No way! That girl actually bought it? And she’s paying in full? How much commission is that going to be?" another staff member muttered enviously.
Sister Zhang immediately denied it. "Impossible! How could that girl possibly come up with over seven million just like that?"
More importantly, she didn’t look like a wealthy heiress—her clothes bore no luxury labels, all cheap brands.
The thought of missing out on a commission of sixty or seventy thousand made her clutch her chest in distress.
No, this couldn’t be!
She was the one who greeted the client first, and she’d done most of the introduction.
With that in mind, she hurriedly followed after them.
