Chapter 28: Tremors in the Celestial Profound Sect—The Daughter-in-law Takes Action!
The commotion at the Abyss of the Fallen Dragon was immediately noticed by the disciples guarding the Hall of Demon Suppression, as well as others eager to enter. Before long, the entire Divine Land had heard the news.
After all, the Abyss of the Fallen Dragon was no ordinary place, and the eruption of demonic energy this time was truly beyond comprehension.
The three great sects instantly dispatched people to investigate, while the Sky Profound Sect was thrown into chaos.
Song Yuchen, Song Yuxuan, Gai Nie, and Wen Xuan—all those in charge—gathered at once atop the main peak of the Sky Profound Sect.
Ge Qingyang stood with his head lowered in a corner. The eruption of demonic energy at the Abyss of the Fallen Dragon had placed Mo Bufan in grave danger, perhaps even costing his life, and the main reason lay with him.
“What exactly is happening at the Abyss of the Fallen Dragon? Brother Yuchen, please explain,” Song Yuxuan, the vice sect leader, asked calmly from the central seat.
Song Yuchen stepped forward at once, frowning as he spoke. “According to the disciples there and the reports from Lingyun Pavilion, this is the most intense eruption of demonic energy ever recorded. There are even faint traces of a dragon’s roar, and the energy released is more powerful than ever before. If my guess is correct…”
He paused, scratching his head.
“What is it?” Song Yuxuan pressed.
“If I’m not mistaken, it’s likely the remnant soul of the Abyss’s master—the Ancestral Dragon. That dragon’s roar must be his; I can’t imagine anyone else capable of unleashing such a terrifying sound from within.”
A hint of doubt appeared on Song Yuchen’s face as he spoke. After all, that was a figure from a hundred thousand years past; it seemed unreasonable for a remnant soul to remain. Yet, recalling how those near-immortal emperors possessed extraordinary power, the possibility could not be dismissed.
Hearing this, Song Yuxuan and the others immediately furrowed their brows. If the Ancestral Dragon’s soul had survived and was now awakened, the matter was anything but simple.
“Have you discovered the cause of the demonic eruption at the Abyss?” Song Yuxuan asked.
The group exchanged uneasy glances before finally shaking their heads.
“I’ve searched through all the books in the library and consulted elders from other sects as well…” Gai Nie said, running a hand through his wild hair, “but I found no records on this matter at all.”
Song Yuxuan fell silent. Not knowing the cause, nor understanding the situation, made this all the more troublesome.
“Junior sister, the priority now isn’t to find the cause, but to rescue your brother-in-law. We can’t let anything happen to him,” Song Yuchen finally blurted out when he saw her hesitation.
“He’s right, junior sister. Saving that rascal Mo Bufan is the most important thing. We gave him many treasures, but with the Ancestral Dragon awakened, if we don’t hurry, that kid may be doomed,” Gai Nie added hastily.
“I know,” Song Yuxuan replied.
In truth, she was desperate to rescue Mo Bufan herself. But with the eruption of demonic energy and the Ancestral Dragon awakened, the danger inside was unimaginable. Sending ordinary disciples was out of the question; if she sent the elders and something befell them, she could not shoulder such responsibility.
Most importantly, these elders were her senior brothers, the very ones who had watched her grow up. If anything happened to them, she would be wracked with guilt.
“Junior sister, let me go,” Ge Qingyang, who had been silent in the corner, finally stepped forward.
Song Yuchen and Gai Nie exchanged glances, a trace of reproach in their eyes.
“Brother, I know our master asked you to guide that rascal Mo Bufan, but you can’t push him this far,” Gai Nie couldn’t help but say. “Do you realize how valuable that boy is?”
Ge Qingyang’s expression shifted. This was the first time his brothers had blamed him so directly, and he was unaccustomed to it. But remembering their status as elders and core disciples, he lowered his head and said no more.
“Yes, eldest brother, now is not the time to make things more complicated,” Song Yuchen added, his own anxiety showing as he forgot his senior brother’s feelings. “Junior sister, let me and Brother Gai go. With our abilities, rescuing that rascal shouldn’t be a problem.”
“That’s right, junior sister, just give the order,” Gai Nie chimed in.
Song Yuxuan looked at her two senior brothers, but in the end shook her head. “Let me go. The sect still needs you three to remain and lead. I have little else to do.”
“But junior sister…” Song Yuchen and Gai Nie started, but Song Yuxuan raised a hand, cutting them off.
“That’s settled. Return to your peaks, everyone. I’ll be back soon,” she ordered.
They knew all too well their little junior sister’s temperament and could only sigh before leaving.
Ge Qingyang turned, then paused and said, “Junior sister, perhaps I should go too. After all, this matter began because of me…”
“No need,” Song Yuxuan replied, her tone unconsciously laced with severity and reproach. “I’ll go alone, senior brother. Please return.”
Ge Qingyang felt a touch of helplessness and sighed, flying towards Tianyu Peak.
“This is a trial of life and death. Perhaps this eruption of demonic energy will ignite your fighting spirit… Ah, I just hope nothing happens to you,” he thought as he left in resignation.
As soon as the others departed, Song Yuxuan wasted no time. With a flash, she mounted her sword and sped toward the Abyss of the Fallen Dragon.
A deep worry gnawed at her heart for the man who had suddenly become intertwined with her fate, whose safety now weighed upon her. She truly did not wish him harm—even if he was utterly useless, she wouldn’t mind taking care of him for a lifetime.
For the sake of the sect, she even considered making full use of him, perhaps even bearing a child with him. As long as he survived, everything could be negotiated.
With these thoughts, her speed increased. A journey that should have taken hours was completed in less than one as she reached the entrance to the Abyss.
Ignoring the disciples from the other three great sects gathered at the entrance, Song Yuxuan strode directly into a small shop, retrieved a bamboo slip reserved for elders of the four great sects—allowing unrestricted access to the Abyss—and, with a flash, plunged inside.
She then produced a talisman marked with Mo Bufan’s imprint. Channeling her power, the talisman shot off towards the Ancestral Dragon’s Sacred Hall.
Without hesitation, Song Yuxuan gripped her sword and followed.
…
Within the grand hall of the Ancestral Dragon, Mo Bufan, Long Ling’er, Zhao Yuan’er, and the two fire ferrets on Mo Bufan’s back lay sprawled across the floor.
A dragon soul quickly materialized in the hall, its gaze settling upon Mo Bufan. With a nod, it muttered, “This rascal, to think he only appeared now. If you’d delayed another ten years, I’d have truly faded to nothing.”
As the dragon soul grumbled, Mo Bufan finally awoke from his stupor. Gazing at the majestic hall, he was utterly overwhelmed…
